Funny how many of you mentioned playing games. That is what we do.
We have the traditional Thanksgiving meal with family and another family, then a whole bunch of other families and friends come over in the evening and most of us play fun games. Not Trivial Pursuit, though. Sometimes "Password" or "Balderdash." We also like the "Planet Hollywood" game (out of print now).
But last year we had a lot of fun with "Celebrity," a sort of made-up Charades type of game that is really funny with a medium-to-large size group. Have any of you played it?
To start, each person writes down seven celebrity names (famous people, or maybe just "famous" to your group: living, dead, or even animated ;-) ) on seven separate slips of paper. Then you put all of the answers in a bowl or bucket in the center of the room. Repeats will appear, but that is O.K. and makes the game funnier.
Then you break up into two equal teams.
There are three rounds, and each round is complete when you have exhausted the celebrity names in the bowl.
Each team selects a person to start, and the team that wins the toss (or whatever) goes first, and their starter draws names and tries to get their own team-members to guess the name (other team cannot guess). Each person does as many as they can do in one minute. At the end of their turn, a person from the other team goes and does likewise, until the names run out (which is the end of a round). Score, of course, is kept by the number of celebrities you have guessed.
Here's the catch, though: each round has different rules, that get harder (and funnier) as you go....
Round One: You can say or do anything (except to say the name).
Round Two: You can only say TWO WORDS, INCLUDING "UM" and "AH"!
(Actions are not limited, though!!)
Round Three: You cannot speak at all. Only actions!
So, by the end of Round One, you know all the names in the pool; it just becomes really funny with the two words or actions that people do to tell you which one it is!!!
We had a lot of fun with this last year, so I expect we might play again!!! Let me know if any of you try it!!! (Wouldn't it be funny to do a WDWMagic group game of this... I can see the imitations of our own in-house celebrities already... :animwink: )....
