Pre-Trip Thanksgiving/Birthday 2017 (Somewhat Live)

I'm finally going back!!! I haven't been to Disney World since 2008, and I have missed it so much. Growing up, my family would go every few years, but that stopped once I started college (my younger sister and I never had matching spring breaks again). This is my first Pre-Trip Report (or Trip Report in general), so I'm asking for both patience and suggestions.

Who: There will be at least three of us on the trip. Me (Liz), my best friend (Katie), and her boyfriend Josh. While I am the third part of that relationship (literally, both of them have told me this on different occasions), we've put the word out among our friends and siblings that the invitation is there if they want to join us. I'd love it if my little sister could join us, especially since we live in different states now, and I can't really imagine a trip to Disney without her.

Where: Because we're young adults who haven't struck it rich quite yet, we're probably staying in Pop Century, or possibly Caribbean Beach Resort (if there are 5 of us).

When: Late November 2017 (We formerly considered September).

How: I recently managed to talk Katie into flying, instead of a 17 hour, nonstop road trip. I recently drove to Texas with my sister to move her to her new home, and I am looking forward to never driving 20 hours again (will that probably happen again? Yes, but I don't want it to be anytime in the near future). [Edit- she just told me that she and Josh were trying to figure out how to talk me into flying; lesson learned, nobody wants to drive from Ohio to Florida]

What: Day 1: Traveling/swimming/exploring Disney Springs/dinner at a restaurant (Narcoossee's, Sanaa, Ohana, or something at DS)
Day 2: Magic Kingdom
Day 3: Parkhopping between Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios
Day 4: Epcot
Day 5: Parkhopping between Universal and IOA (we're big Harry Potter fans)
Day 6: Travel

And now for the big stuff. Like I said before, I haven't been to Disney since 2008. Katie hasn't been since 2012. It's been about 10 years for Josh too. There have been a lot of changes in that time. Magic Bands, FP+, dining plans, price hikes, new rides... Yeah. It's different and exciting, and we can't wait to try it out.

We're thinking we may want to try the Regular Dining Plan. What are the best ways to get our money's worth? Also, what are the best value hotels? Sports looks pretty nice.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

I have my suitcase out, and currently it contains 1 pair of jeans and 1 pair of jean capris. When I go out to Kroger this afternoon I’ll pick up some breakfast bars.

I just upgraded my seat to Delta Comfort. A little more expensive, but it’s my birthday weekend sooooo :p

Katie and Josh are going to go to Sam’s Club to pick up gift cards, since you can apparently buy them for less than they are worth there. Idk how that works, but I am not complaining (will be spending most of my money on food and alcohol anyways).

Does anyone know how soon coffee can be purchased when you step into Animal Kingdom? Are there any coffee kiosks on the way to Pandora? Asking for my friends (and most definitely me as well),

I’ve decided to listen to at least one Disney soundtrack at work a day, maybe more if I have time. Starting this adventure with The Jungle Book, a CD (and VHS) that I never owned, but we had the cassette tape that was pretty worn out by the time we stopped listening to it.

I just read through your entire pre-trip report - your excitement is contagious!!! I just visited Disney last month, but of course I'm already trying to figure when we can schedule our next trip! As a fellow Star Wars fan - if you get the chance, definitely meet Kylo Ren at HS. He is so in character, it's hilarious! (If you have a Disney Chase card, there's a private line - no wait!) Have fun!! I can't wait to read about your trip!

So, that first park night is proving a little tricky. I think the 4 of us will be splitting up for a bit (except for Katie and Josh of course), and I’m not sure what exactly I want to do.

Erin will be doing the Magic Kingdom dessert party at 9. Rivers of Light has showings at 7, 8:45, and 10. The DHS night shows are at 8 & 8:30. Epcot’s is at 9:30. MK starts their night program at 10.

Now, Rivers of Light is a must for me. The real trick is that this would be the only night to see Illuminations too(our Cellier reservation starts before the show). I’ll be seeing the MK show on the 27th, so that’s not important to see that night. Would it be realistically possible to leave DHS to see Rivers of Life at 7:00, and then go to Epcot to see Illuminations at 9:30? It’ll be 2 days after Thanksgiving, so I’m sure the buses are going to be busy.

At this time next week, I will probably be leaving Pandora after riding both rides there and walking around (hooray for the park opening at 7 AM). That’s crazy to think about.

I have a couple more things packed. I think I’m going to keep one outfit in my backpack, just in case something happens with my luggage.

Found out yesterday that I’ll be arriving in Orlando 2 hours before Katie & Josh. That means I have to navigate the Magical Express on my own, along with dropping my luggage off at Pop alone, and probably going to Disney Springs alone (can’t take my nap when I arrive, because apparently check in isn’t until 3). Which is fine, I’ll just meet them at the Springs, but I was kind of hoping to do some of this with my friends too. Oh well.

I’m going to post a couple throwback pics for the last time I was at AK, DHS, and MK later. Spoiler, I’ve changed a bit.

Weather for the trip:

Friday: 70/51
Saturday: 73/55
Sunday: 75/54
Monday: 69/51
Tuesday: 70/54
(Not including Wednesday since I leave that morning).

It looks like a lot of rain on Thursday, so I’m keeping an eye on that in case it spills over to Friday.
We will be there Saturday through Wednesday. Looks like fabulous weather. I can't wait to be back home!

Creature Comforts is the Starbucks location at AK.. it's on the path to the left of the tree just part Pizzafari. Walk toward Africa and you'll see it. :) I've never really paid attention to the Joffrey's locations in the parks because I don't drink that type of coffee, but there may be some of those stands around as well.

Thanks! I have a feeling we’ll be stopping there at least twice that morning.
