Thanksgiving 2005

Greetings to all. A couple of years ago, I posted a Thanksgiving thread that asked everyone to say what they were thankful for. I would like to do that again this year. And here it is.

Please take a moment to think about it, and post what you are thankful for this year.

I know that for me, it has been a very rough and challenging year; but I taught my Sunday School class on Sunday that it is good to be thankful during even the rough times. And it was rough for me this year, at least for a while.

For me this year, my father passed away (February), and on top of that I had to wrestle with the life insurance company for months concerning my mother's mortgage when questions arose. But in the end, they decided to pay, and for that we are fortunate. More important, though, my father was a man who really loved his family, and provided the best role model a son could know. I was fortunate enough to get common sense in the last few years and spend more time with him on things he enjoyed (we even got to go to Nashville on a guys' bluegrass trip!), before he passed away.

Now, though, as the holidays approach, we can see good and the legacy of faith that my father has left us. It will probably be emotion-filled at some points, but I can already see much that he would want us to remember at this time.

I have a new church and a staff leadership position (as a youth director) with enthusiastic friends there; and my nephew is almost 2 - and providing the family with a lot of joy -- just as his mom is about to have another one!

And I am thankful for my friends online, as well.

So, this Thanksgiving, and every day, I have much to thank God for, even when sometimes I have trouble keeping that in mind!

I would love to hear your own contributions.

I am thankful for many things.

Most important, I am thankful for my loving and caring parents. They are the world to me and I would be lost without them. I am so thankful that I have such a wonderful mother who gives me such sound advice, cooks such wonderful food, is so caring, and is my best friend. I am thankful also to have a dad who is a wonderful and loving man who can fix anything. I hope to be just like my mom someday, and marry a man half as wonderful as my dad.

I'm thankful for my boyfriend of six years. He treats me well and makes me laugh.

I am thankful for the warm roof under my head at night, and the safe, reliable car that gets me to work each day. I'm thankful for a job in which I don't mind getting up and going to each day, even if it isn't the best job in the world.

I am thankful to be me, here, and healthy.

I too am thankful for many things....

1. My husband who could have just left when both MJ and I were diagnosed with chronic illnesses that would disable us both.

2. My gorgeous daughter whom the Dr's predicted would be a vegetable...for everything that is wrong with her, she is certainly not a vegetable and her smile brightens my days and the days of everyone she comes in contact with I am told.

3. Our friends at Disney (CM and Board) the small and large things that they do for us every weekend, the smiles when they see us, the fact that they treat MJ so well, I just can't imagine her life (or ours) without Disney and our friends. All are so incredibly so special to us, but a special shoutout has to go to Nana....

4. That I had enough sense to make up with my mother so that I can spend more time getting to know her and letting her know me and her grand daughter. I am grateful to have her in my life at this time of year. This time of year is especially hard for me because my grandmother (whom I adored) died on my birthday (Dec 14) in 1995 and my father (who I did not make up with, a regret I will have forever) died on Christmas Day 1996

5. That Andrew got a great job offer from Disney, a company he really wanted to work for, shortly after he was laid off....

6. For the medical advances that have allowed my daughter to live and be here with us.

7. For my daughter's birthmother who gave her up to give her a better life and gave us the greatest gift we ever could recieve....

I'm thankful for this opportunity!

Just this past weekend my husband had a minor health crisis which landed him in the hospital overnight. Minor though it was, it made me stop and realize how blessed I am to have him. I am so thankful for him, our two daughters who are our greatest gift, and our wonderful friends who were so there for us this weekend.

I am grateful also for my Mom, still going strong at 82. And my sister who knows me like no one else.

I'm thankful for each day. As you get older, they go by much faster!

I'm thankful for all the little things that I take for granted each day. I know how fortunate I am to be able to take them for granted.

I'm thankful that I live in the U.S. With all its problems it is my home and I love it.

And seriously, I'm thankful for this forum and the friends I have made here. In many ways, we escape to an unreal world when we come to this site, but I know in my heart that the people I connect with are good people. Just look at this thread for instance. Thanks prberk!

I am, also, thankful for many things.

I am thankful for my family for always supporting me. My parents are always there for me. I wouldn't be able to be the person I am today without their love and support.

I am thankful for my friends (both that I know in person, and all of you, here on WDWMagic.) If I'm feeling down, you are all able to make me feel better. Sometimes just giving me something to chuckle about can make my day that much better.

I am thankful for my home, food, and school. I'm also thankful for my teachers, who always give me guidance. Even the teachers I am not so fond of, have helped me in the past.

I am thankful that my 13 month old neice is a healthy, and happy little girl. She is such a sweetie, and can always make me happy. I am also thankful for my brother and sister, and their spouses.

I would like to wish you all a very happy, and healthy (hint hint: don't eat too much) Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for so much, but first and foremost is my wonderful family. Seven years ago, our pastor lost his wife to breast cancer, leaving behind three small children. Having taken care of them throughout her illness (2 were still in diapers), I was the logical choice to be the primary caregiver to them. After prayerfully discussing this with my family, I agreed to do it and my husband, daughter, and son basically had to share me with another whole family. My hours were very unpredictable, and those first few years were quite a challenge to us all. My husband took over most of the cooking at home, my daughter and son did as much of the housework as they could while keeping up their grades and working part-time. I'm proud to say, that now, some 7 years later, all 5 kids are doing well; my extra 3 are becoming quite independent and I have much more "free" time now than I've ever had! My own 2 kids are doing quite well; my daughter graduated with high honors from high school and is now carrying an A average as a junior in college. My son is a high school junior, and is also an honor student. All 5 are wonderful kids with high morals and pretty good judgement, and I know that they will go far in this world. I'm proud of all of them, but I'm especially proud of my fabulous husband. Of course he drives me nuts at times, but I could not do what I do without his constant love and support.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

I would like to thank the Academy, my producers, the director, everyone else on staff....

Oh...you mean thankful for in life, and not Hollywood? :hammer:

I am VERY thankful for all my friends and family. Having lived away from home for over three months now, I realize how much it means to have a family to come home to everyday. I am thankful for the way I was raised, the morals I was taught, and the way my parents became perfect role models for me.

There are many, MANY more things, but the list is endless.

So THANKS to everyone and everything!

I'm thankful for Thanksgiving itself, because without Thanksgiving, there'd be no Black Friday and I wouldn't have all the ridiculously cheap things I buy. :D

I'm thankful that, despite all these major tragedies in the past 5 years, I haven't been majorly affected by any; that includes something happening to family members. :)

Very nice, Nemo. I find that some of the strength of family is made when we come together to sacrifice for someone in need. And I like your attitude: looking at others' sacrifice over your own. You are blessed.

As we all are. Thanks for everyone's writings so far. Very nice stuff.

I'm thankful for all seven of my nieces and nephews. I'm thankful that I have such a close family and that my brother and sisters were able to find wonderful people to share their lives with who fit in with our family perfectly. I hope to find someone that great.

I'm thankful for all of my friends. Even though some have come and gone, some live far away now, and some I just don't get to see that often, I still love them all and remember all of wonderful memories I share with them.
I'm thankful that tomorrow is the official start of the holiday season. :xmas:
I'm thankful for Disney, and I'm thankful that I found wdwmagic. :sohappy:

For Paul;

I am thankful for...

...political and religious debate because it means freedom of speech is still one of our basic rights.

...the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I still have enough food to eat.

...the sounds of chainsaws and hammers because things are being fixed and I can still hear.

...my damaged ceilings, carpet and roof because it means I still have my house.

...those huge hospital bills because I am still alive to pay them.

...that parking space at the far end of the Wal*Mart parking lot because I can still walk just fine.

...hurricane Dennis, because he could have been Katrina instead.

...hurricane Katrina because she taught me how to help my fellow man, woman, child and animal.

...knowing how to prime a pump because you've got to give before you can get.

...all of the kind people at WDWMAGIC because they have let me vent.

...all of the unkind people at WDWMAGIC because they have made me stronger.

-Family
-Boyfriend
-Friends
-Dakota (dog), Shadow (cat), Fresh Prince (rabbit)
-Having a roof over my head
-My car
-TV/Computer/other electronics
-Disney
-All you wonderful WDWmagic people
-Many, many other things

......HAPPY THANKSGIVING:wave: be safe!

Thanks, everyone, for all of your thoughts. Many were very nice to read.

Tramp, that graphic was very well-done also. And, Woody, as usual you were very insightful. Good stuff to think about.

I hope everyone's thanksgiving was good, and I hope we all found something for which to give thanks. It started a little rough for my mother (first year without my father), but some family friends with whom we all spend many holiday times invited us to go with them to some other friends' house, and we all had a great time. My mother laughed; and we all met some new friends. Very nice. And another reason to give thanks...
