News Test Track to be reimagined

Zummi Gummi

Pioneering the Universe Within!
Incidentally, and apropos of nothing, I rode the ride this weekend, and it was in rather sad shape. There was no narration, my car never showed up at the end of each segment, despite scanning in, and there were large gaps of the ride with no scenery or anything but neon stripes.

It’s definitely past time for a refurb and I’m glad one is coming.

I finagled with some blueprints a while back to see which, if any, scenes from World of Motion could fit into the current indoor layout, especially the slow sections. It turns out that you can fit slightly smaller versions of most of the original scenes! I was pretty proud of what I came up with. I’ll post it here a little bit later.
Do you still have these mock-ups? Very interested to see what Test Track 3 is currently rumored to resemble!

To-scale layout courtesy of parklore.com. I essentially made sure that the two layouts were the same size, chopped up WoM into tiny pieces, and placed it around the TT layout. I figured that as you came up the hill, there could be a time traveling effect, and as you rounded the first corner, you could see the cavemen blowing on their feet. The skid off the road could be almost crashing into the invention of the wheel, and then as you came back up though that straightway the spinning-wheel projections could surround you. Columbus (or some other, less problematic explorer) and the sea serpent could be at the entrance to the slow rooms, in which you could fit some version of the bull scene. You could circle a scaled-down world's first traffic jam, and then the handling tests could be an elongated "let's go for a drive in the forest!" scene like in the concept art. Near misses with the unicycles, the pig man, and the air show picnic would be fun. Finally, the slow turn into the launch could be past a line of evolving vehicles (Chevys), and over the tunnel to the high speed loop could be a forced perspective city of the future that we are racing towards. The final turn to the exit (not shown) could have the pepper's ghost effect from the original. This way, the track doesn't need to be changed or enclosed, and plenty of resources could be spent on sets instead. Not based on any rumors, just my own blue-sky.

Less than a month away from closure. Do yall think we'll get any pointers what to expect before then?
Probably will get it at D23 most likely..

Which I admit is quite annoying. There have been as many as three D23s of them announcing the same stuff and passing off a name reveal or an opening season as a big announcement (Looking at you DCA Avengers E ticket, which actually hasn't done any of those things yet). While I have hope that this year is different and more things will be officially confirmed and announced, we probably will have to put up with more of that crap a smidge.

Sorry for my little rant. Probably should have saved it for the D23 thread.

Last thing that comes to mind was Stitch “going seasonal” (open secret that it was permanently closing) in 2018

Primeval Whirl was put into seasonal operation in summer of 2019. I'm not sure when it operated after that point but it was announced that it wouldn't reopen once the parks came back from the Covid closure and was subsequently dismantled.

Primeval came back for one last time during the 2019 holiday season. I think I rode it for the first and last time in early December 2019.

Looking forward to this update, i still listen to the attraction music from the original theming, I'm kind of exited by this closure , just hope we don't have to design stupid cars anymore before we ride, I've just seem POV of Tiana's splash mountain, and it looks pretty great to be honest, so if they can give the same love to TT, should be a winner.

I am too. I was a big fan of WoM and I also really liked the original test track. Test track 2.0? Not so much. But the idea of combining parts of WoM and the original test track could be amazing. It's all in the hands of the imagineers. I am unfortunately not with you on the care to Tiana's. I don't think it meets what it should have been. That said, I'm sure GM has a lot of say because it's their dime. So I'm hopeful that they do it right. Of course they approved tron track so it's anyone's guess how this goes. But of all the re-dos, this is one I have the most hope for.
