Test Track reopens without crash sequence

As Jeff D said, the doors to the outside look REALLY tacky with the bottom half being unfinished plywood. Looks like they just broke and someone patched them up quickly :hurl:

As for speeds, don't have my reference handy, but I remember reading that the ride was built for speeds in excess of 100mph. That would have required higher banking of the track and would make it much more uncomfortable for people when they are stuck there, and more difficult for emergency unload.

The cars are limited to 65mph to match the US speed limit. Politically correct etc. etc.

There used to be a supply of spare doors next to the exit of the crash test - the idea was if one got hit or damaged another could be replaced in minutes by a CM.

BTW - the doors still split in the middle to open don`t they (a la Star Trek)?

We rode on Saturday and the robot in the corrosion chamber on the left side wasn't even working, it was slumped over on the side. Must not have been a very thorough rehab.:brick:

Ummmm The Doors have always been "Plywood" at the bottom, hence this pic I took from 1999 right after it Opened.

Also the Doors are made of a heavy foam type material just incase they refuse to open.

I'm gonna miss that effect-are you sure they took it out? I just rode it early Feb. 2004 & the effect was still there. Who knows?:lookaroun

The Car Crash has been gone longer than the ride has been open. I remember going in 2000 and it did not work. And that had me dissapointed because in 1996 I got this pre-rendered video of the ride and it showed the crash and the outside part...

But then I forgot about it for a while.... but then I remembered...

No, it worked off and on from 1999 to 2001, and then it just died out

Wow! I had no idea there was a completely different sequence missing. Shame. That would definitley enhance that part of the attraction before heading off down the tracks.

The "plywood" may have always been there but it used to be painted then. The round symbol used to be in the dead middle of the doors and when they first put the stuff up (or not painted) it covered up the lower portion of the symbol. The biggest reason I remember this is they started using the unpainted material halfway through a trip but i cannot remember what year it was but it has always been there since.

As for the foam that could very well be but they use some hard stuff. The car reacts to it exactly like it would hitting a solid object. I guess when you are there and that happens they are testing for whiplash.........

The ToT review looks pretty interesting. I remember back in the day when it was rumored there would be no pre-show- just a drop sequence.
