Test Track Post Show Car Purchase

While TT was being remade into TT2, Chevy had some display models out front with GM reps to answer questions. We looked at a Camaro seriously for the first time there. Loved the retro styling much more than the Mustang or Challenger...and Chrysler just plain got the Charger wrong.
We came home and looked at the Camaro at a local dealer and came close to buying a Rally Yellow 2LS Camaro then drove it and found the rear visibility to be a deal breaker.
Did not love the dash design either, but short of the new C7 the yellow Camaro may be one of the best looking cars on the road. I almost jumped on the new Hot Wheels special edition Camaro earlier this year but it was only in Kinetic Blue Metallic, not in Rally Yellow.
We wound up buying a more practical, more fuel efficient, and much more boring foreign sedan instead...and I dislike it more every time I see a Camaro, especially a yellow one.

I was looking at the Spark in the TT post-showroom and another guest started trying to tell me all the reasons I should get a Honda Fit instead. Guess what that guy does for a living...

They had the new Impala at TT when I was there and was really impressed. Probably still won't buy it. The Fusion's Aston Martin look is making it hard for Chevy to catch my full attention. Plus I had a Chevy already, I want to try some other brands now.

Do the reps at those desks sell cars or do they just refer you to someone/somewhere? Yes. I know- dumb question!
I often wanted to buy the "Bumblebee"!:hilarious:

They just got our contact information to send to dealers and signed us up for brochures for models we were interested in, and the brochures arrived in just a few weeks...as did calls from dealers.
So I am not the only one who likes the yellow Camaro I see.

that is one of the saddest posts I have ever read . You do something crazy and buy yourself a Camaro!

Thanks for the encouraging words. We made the more practical choice and, though sad, was the right choice...although some day there will be a Rally Yellow Camaro in the driveway...might even spring for a convertible, though my wife likes the BMW Z4, and we could wind up with one of those.
Got a friend with a Boxster, but it is a bit too small, and pricey for me.

I have felt your pain. I went from a 98 Firebird with plans to get a 2002 WS6 or Firehawk to a 2002 Kia Sedona mini van. A little bit of me died that day.

With no kids, we never drove a mini van, but I do feel your pain. When I was younger I had a Plymouth Duster 360 that was wicked fast, and my wife had a Firebird Formula...a long way from today's practical and reliable Toyota. I do have a fairly new Chevy Silverado to pull the camper with, and a VTX 1300 to try to hang on to a little bit of youth, and to blow by old dudes in mini vans!

I betcha you can guess what is now sitting in my drive way can't ya? :) Her name is either "Creeper" (after the Minecraft baddy) or Booger (depending on who you ask in our house lol).

So here's my question to all of you... anyone else out there end up buying a car after seeing it in the Test Track postshow area?

1. I like my Mustang.

2. Your driving experience is forever ruined by Michael Bay.

In September 2011 the old man admired a Chevy truck that was in the TT1.0 post show area. He signed up for the mailing list. By November 2011 our old Tahoe was having electrical issue after electrical issue. We decided it was time for a new something to replace it. The only requirement really was that whatever we bought had to be able to pull the old man's boat (Triton 19X2). Hubby negotiated a great deal on a new Tahoe up in Whitesboro, Texas. A few days before we were supposed to go pick it up he got a postcard in the mail for an additional $1500 rebate on the purchase of any new GM vehicle. Soooooo, in addition to the really great price for the Z71 Tahoe we utilized a $4k incentive for that model PLUS the postcard promo thing for an additional $1500 off. We left the dealership having paid less than the dealership's invoice. That was pretty darned nice.

I wouldn't count on me ever buying a vehicle due to the TT post-show. There's no Acura's in there.

For what it's worth, the old man regrets that 2011 Tahoe like no other vehicle we've ever owned. He wishes he'd listened to me and bought the Acura MDX. Most recently he swears when Ford rolls out the Atlas he'll be a new truck owner again.

In the meantime...I'm still lovin' my '09 Acura TL and she's lovin' me back. Gonna have her all paid off with 60k miles left on the warranty. Oh yes, we'll be together for a long time yet....
