Actual quotes from a non-geeky friend who took his family to WDW a few weeks ago:

"It was hot and it wasn't too busy. We went in soarin straight away. Fast past'd test track that was better after we ignores the car design bit. A load of us barged past the consoles and pushes open the auto doors that they now force you to use. Everyone says the car design bit is pointless, people couldn't get it to work anyway. The fast pass one had broken so we were forced back into regular consoles. "

"Same ride but slautered by stupid neon lights."

"Ha. They're all broken" (photo of design consoles with A4 pieces of paper stuck on the screens)

Now will they learn interactivity isn't the best approach for every attraction?

I haven't ridden in a while prior to this so I don't know how long it's been like this, but to my surprise, for the first time ever, my vehicle showed up on all four in-ride screens. Also, everything else seemed to be working except the fog in the scanner room. The design station interface was changed a bit and the process is a little more streamlined. You also now have the option to make a "smart car". All of the kiosks were working.

Other thoughts:
- Waiting for the design station is still a huge bottleneck that takes forever, and now the Fastpass line must also use the design stations. I suspect that since it was not designed to operate like this, the number of Fastpasses available was reduced drastically.
- I still wish the outdoor high speed loop had music.

Also, the official album track:

Went on this bad boy today, every station had the sim car ranking working, I went in the single rider line which lets you pick a car and then give it an attribute that matters to you. Unlike the standard line you don't really customize this car you just choose from an assortment of already rendered vehicles. But at every test this effect was working, there was no fog in the room. The rest of the ride looked great not a single hiccup really.

Status watch 8-29-13: high percentage of people who rode the attraction before the refurb are disappointed. Neon lights still working.

Glad to hear the neon lights are still working as I would have suspected the opposite... hopefully TDO keeps everything in working condition so it don't turnout like its predecessor.

Well, Test Track 2.0 has been open for a year and a half now... how's it holding up?

Well, on my recent ride... missing sound effects and audio cues, all projections looking faded and washed out, UV lighting out in many places or too dim, the impressively loud thunderbolt audio has been turned down to barely audible, probably to not scare the handful of sheltered children that might ride, exterior track full of dirt and grime and gum, exterior loop still has maintenance and dumpsters or something clearly visible, queue all scratched up. But on the plus side, the custom vehicles correctly displayed on every screen - although I was the only person in our car that actually realized I had to touch my card to the reader to upload my car to the ride, so my car was the only one displayed.

So yeah. Neglected and bad show. Exactly what I expected from current WDW. Sigh.
