Terrible Disney Stories

Well, actually a friend of mine has been a criminal lawyer in Orlando/Kissemee area and said that 90% of the child molesters that are her clients are caught in Disney World.

She is ALWAYS warning me about NOT letting my boys go to the bathroom by themselves, Stores....etc.

Many Orlando locals hate Walt Disney World. I've seen more than my share of that sentiment from my friends down there.

Disney can hide certain statistics, but criminal charges are public records that can't be hidden and the Orlando Sentinel and local television news stations do not hesitate to run those stories for the ratings those stories generate.

I hate for parents to have unnecessary fear about bringing their children to the most Magical place in the world. ;) You probably don't need your friend to tell you not to send your young child into the restroom alone. Use of a little parental common sense is all the protection your children need at any Disney park. :)

I lost my son in Ak one year. He was 12 so not really a kid, but he was absorbed in building Mr Potato heads, as the rest of the family gravitated toward the exit. we went back in for him, he went out the other way to find us. Meanwhile a street band started to play, drowning out my yells for him. We were just about to send half the family to the meeting spot when I spotted him with a Disney employee asking directions to Pizzafari. When I hugged him, the employee asked my son if I was his mom. I thought that was really cool that they looked out for him by asking. I have never been so happy to see him and it was seriously the longest 5 minutes of my life.

On my last trip, I went with my parents and my cousin Aaron. I usually take some damage to my feet on these trips, and this time was even worse because of the fact that on the first day, me and Aaron walked through the entirety of Magic Kingdom without going on a ride (taking any sitting out of the equation.

This was our 4th or 5th day of the vacation, and I was in a pretty bad way. We went to 'Ohana (a great experience), so what we did was take the bus to MK from Port Orleans Riverside and then took the monorail over. On the trip from the bus to the monorail, everyone else in my party outpaced me and got quite a bit ahead. I was limping a bit, overcompensating in my step for the painful parts of my feet, and my left foot was turned outwards.

A kid about 10-12 with long hair and a Boston cap on was running by and slammed into my left side and fell, doing sort of a Kirk roll. I must say, I was impressed. I'm an easy-going fellow, so I wasn't angry about him running into me at all. I went to help him up, but his father got to him first. I apologized (sort of reflex, even though it wasn't my fault), and the father was nice. The boy, on the other hand, was starting to cry a bit.

As they walked away, the mother yelled at her son for running into me, and he said in his best crying whine "BUT HE RAN INTO ME!!!" The mother then turned to me and yelled at me to watch where I was going, despite the fact that she saw the whole thing! She watched the boy, who was running while I was slowly shambling, smash into me, but she turned on me. I tried to calmly explain to her what happened, but all I got to was "I", and she yelled at me "Go Boston!"

I can't believe how horrid this woman acted, turning on me even though she knew that her son rammed into me, just because I was wearing a Yankees hat. The world really needs less people like this. Fortunately, 'Ohana's was a hit, and the night was great after this unfortunate experience.

In 1999, my mother and I traveled to Disney. We were going to the Magic Kingdom on the day of her birthday and decided to take the monorail. The line for the monorail was long so we had to wait a while. Yet, we ended up at the front of the line for the next monorail. As soon as the doors opened, my mom and I were entering the monorail when these group of 5 little kids (aged 5 to 7) bomb-rushed us and next thing I know, my mom is laying on the floor of the monorail. To makes matters worst, my mom is a diabetic and her knee was BADLY SCRAPED! We didnt notify CMs and rather kept going. As the day persisted - the pain got worse so we left the MK and went back to the hotel. The CM got us transportation to Epcot (I guess at the time that was there main first aid place). However, nothing was done. Yet, its not on the fault of Disney.. but soon after returning home, we realized that could have been a lawsuit.

A lawsuit against whom? It's not Disney's fault that someone fell ... blame the parents of the bratty kids whom should have stopped their children from running.

It seems there's an incident every time I go to Disney with having to protect my kids from some teen who's barrelling down a path or another kid swinging something .. When I miss, and they do get hit, it's not Disney's fault. I do, however, berate the person whose fault it is.

We were in the monorail one night, on our way back to the TTC from Epcot. There were a few people waiting for the monorail ahead of us (all late teens/early 20s, I'd guess). They, of course, all sat down on the seats, requiring me to stand, while holding my 4 year old. Also, my 6 and 8 year old kids were standing (people who don't offer their seats to people who need it more are a MAJOR pet peeve of mine). It had been raining that day, and everyone was a bit damp ... While we're on our way back to the TTC, one of the idiots pulls out a lighter and starts "drying" the cards in his pocket with it. So yes, I told him to put it away. Lots of cursing me out came afterwards, while I talked to him like the child he was ... There's no excuse for idiots like that. We complained to the CMs when we got off, but I doubt anything was done.

Ours aren't complete nightmare trips, more little things that put a real dampner on them.

On our last trip, we spent 2 weeks there in September and I was fine for the first week but then in the second week, I got this really bad pain in the side of my face, It was in my cheek, my nose, and up into my eye and breathing in the air con air (very cold!) made all of my teeth ache! I couldn't drink anything cold, could barely eat anything cos my teeth were so sore and I was drifting from one set of painkillers to the next. And that was the week we were due to attend our first MNSSHP. Needless to say, I wasn't well enough to go! I was gutted! And it was just me and DH so I managed to ruin his trip too!

Hopefully, our next trip will be a little more successful!

I have 2: 2 weeks before our October 2002 trip, our house burned down. Since the trip was paid already, we cleaned out what we could, and went on the trip anyway. There was a big group of us - aunt & uncle, me, son, sister, father, cousin & cousin's daughter & friend. On the way there, we stopped at Pensacola Beach for the night. Cousin lost the ONLY key she had to her car. We left her there to wait for Pop-A-Lock. (We were already frustrated with her after 7 hour road trip at this time). She catches up with us on the interstate. Coming into Kissimmee, she wants to stop and buy a new camera. We pull into Eckerd's. She gets out, kids get out....LOCK NEW KEY IN CAR. It took 2 hours for a good samaritan to finally unlock the car. The first day at WDW (AK) they complained about the crowds, the fact that she had to pay out $80 for a new car key, & not having enough spending money to eat at one of the more expensive restaurants we had booked. She rides the rapids ride, gets a little wet (honestly - not very wet at all) AND BUYS A WHOLE OUTFIT AT ONE OF THE SHOPS. The next day, they overslept and we told them we'd meet them at the Studios. (We didn't) We ended up ditching them the rest of the trip. I'll spare you my second story, but it's just as bad.

OMg I am so sorry to hear this. It sucks that one person ruined the trip for the whole group. We went for 10 days in 2006 and had a wonderful trip. The only complaint i could have is one rude rude guy at Illuminations in epcot. We met a foreign family there who was on holiday(supernice people) who moved their sleeping child in a stroller back and let ours get right up to the fence to see over the adults. This guy just walks up out of nowhere and pushes infront of my 4 year old. I said excuse me . The guy called me a and said she moved out of that spot and he got it fair and square. A 40 year old man mind you doing this to a 4 year old. I was going to just let it go and bring her back on another night since this was our first day there but the british couple said NO you dont' do that to a baby . This is their spot. They really stood up for my daughter and the guy walked off mumbling what a B@tch I was again . My only response was "welcome to the happiest place on earth":ROFLOL:I didn't let it bother me and we had a fantastic night and trip! For every one rude person you meet at DW there was 100 super fantastic people. Thats one of my favorite things about going there. MOst people are so happy and courteous.Out of the whole 10 days that was the ony thing that happened bad and in my mind very minor and the kids dont' remember it , all they remember is the great time they had.

You are right. I was only 12 at the time but if I was a group up when this happened, I would have became furious at the parents for allowing their kids to act like animals. But its in the past now.

First of all children should be supervised everywhere not just at Disney World!I believe molestors seek out anywhere they can find a large sorce of children and what a better place then Disney. I am sure small towns in the middle of kansas with parks is another great sorce so I wouldn 't blame Disney. Also to the person who said Disney can cover some statistics but not this one.................Why should Disney be responsible for some sick minded person molesting children? The parents need to supervise children out in public as well as they can and still bad things can happen. Not at all Disneys fault and not the childrens or parents fault, Its the sicko who preys on vacationing families fault. I think people find every reason they can to make Disney Company out to be at fault for everything and its not fair.
