Any word on what this refurb will entail?

I love teppanyaki but I have always found the one in Japan at Epcot rather lacking. We have never had a really fun chef, the atmosphere is nothing special and the food is kind of oh hum quality. We have found Kobe at the Crossroads to be much better and less money to boot.

I agree. This was something special way back when I first went there in 1986. There were very few of those style restaurants where I lived at the time. Even up until 6-7 years ago, this style of restaurant was still a special unique kind of restaurant. Now there are 5 of them within 2 miles of my workplace. The increased exposure to Teppanyaki style gives many people a better point of comparison. Hopefully this refurb may lead to improved menus and service. But more likely than not, it's probably just new carpet and decor.

I found Teppanyaki to be disappointing as well. The part that I dislike most about the menu is the lack of fried rice. Every teppan restaurant around here offers fried rice (Benihana, Kobe, etc.). It's my favorite part of the meal, and I wonder why the menu doesn't include it.

Agreed but also the absence of shrimp sauce is another big down side.

I agree that the Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki Dining Rooms could learn a thing or two from Benihana...

Hopefully, any renovation will also affect overall food and presentation quality.

(And for the record, I count teppan-style restaurants among my most favorite! :D)

Hmmmm.

I was never a huge fan of the place. The food is average, and the chefs, although fun, just seem to lack something that other teppanyaki places have. Maybe a rehab will do it well. Maybe alittle change in the menu, or at least the "seasonings" would help~:sohappy:

I agree we have 4 or 5 within 3 to 5 miles here and we always compare the different ones. My wife and I went to Teppanyaki on our honeymoon back in 1999. Its food quality was mediocre, but we had an attentive wait staff and great chef. That was our one and only time eating there, just not interested in going back.

Drive past DTD heading toward Hotel Plaza Blvd. At the light at the end of Hotel Plaza blvd (intersection of HPB and 535, you will see a McDonald's and a UNO pizza across he street) go straight across the street and you will be at the Crossroads. I believe Kobe is toward the back of this strip mall.

They should just gut it and expand the lounge (which is too small), and Tempura Kiku (which is a much better restaurant).

WOW COMPLETELY AGREE. kobe is yum (and one of the best shrimp sauces I have EVER tasted).

My boyfriend and I were disappointed at the small amount of veggies from Japan, rice, noodles, i mean COME ON!

Kobe is worth the trip. My parents have a lake house in Lake Placid (about an hour and 15 mintues away from WDW, and last weekend they were there with my little sis and her boyfriend. On Saturday night, they drove all the way to KOBE just for dinner. That should explain the fascination..

Agreed, there shrimp sauce is quite good. It has a little more kick then the shrimp sauce we get up here in Jacksonville. I put the stuff on everything. We frequent one particular restaurant here in J-ville and they don't even bother with the little dishes with me anymore the chef just puts the pot next to my plate.:slurp:

This is so sad. Since 1989, we've eaten there everytime during our annual or semi-annual trips. We have a trip planned for March, perhaps we'll have to move it just for this...

BTW, the only thing I'm upset with the restaurant about is that the salads are now extra. However, the ginger sauce has changed my life. For 5+ years, my mom has had the recipe and it's all I eat on salad (aside from basalmic vinegar and olive oil) and serves as a great dipping sauce.

We've eaten at Japan about three times. We have always had a great chef. I didn't think the food was bad either. I know Benihanas (excuse the spelling) is better but I can't say I hated it there!:veryconfu
