Any word on what this refurb will entail?

I love teppanyaki but I have always found the one in Japan at Epcot rather lacking. We have never had a really fun chef, the atmosphere is nothing special and the food is kind of oh hum quality. We have found Kobe at the Crossroads to be much better and less money to boot.

Ditto.

We have a very nice teppanyaki/sushi restaurant near us in a strip mall and it is more fun. They need to spice it up a bit and kick up the atmosphere a lot to make this what it should be.

I loved going to Teppanyaki on our honeymoon in '02. Our chef, Kenji, was terrific. however, I wouldn't be too sad if I were to miss it on our next trip, b/c let's face it, you can get exactly the same style of dining outside of the World (minus the Mickey ears ice cream, of course).

Morocc0o (Restaurant Marrakesh) is a great choice for dinner, as that type of food cannot be easily found outside of WDW. And yes, the food *is* edible, and dee-licious.

I will be at WDW in 2 weeks...

and I will miss Teppanyaki :(

I think that the appeal is more the show than the food. The chef and whoever your table mates end up being can make or break your experince more than the food will.

Last eyar my kids nd I shared a table with 3 of the rudest poeple you'd ever want to meet. first they were angry because our chef was not from Japan, but Hawaii (but he is of Japanese descent). Then they went out of their way to denegrate everyhting this poor man did...from his technique to the food to Japanese food in general. Why they even decided to eat there is beyond me.

We had a blast because we ended up getting most of the attention from our chef. We found out that his son and grandson lives about 90 minutes from us and we just had a great time...even though our seatmates tried to ruin it.

If you like the White Sauce, try this

The White sauce is very easy to make. I don't really measure, just throw together until it tastes right. Cup of Mayonaisse, T of Soy Sauce, Tsp of Ground Ginger, 1/2 tsp white pepper, 2-3 Splenda or equal tsps of Sugar, and enough Rice Wine Vinegar to reach the consistency you like. It is yummy on everything. Also, the ginger sauce is ginger dressing (bottled from grocery store), a little soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and 1 splenda or tsp of sugar. Enjoy! :p

I think this whole refurb the chefs are going to try to figure out how to make fried rice so it CAN FINALLY BE ON THE MENU. Only thing that ever bugged me about the teppanyaki dining. I have found my chef to be very entertaining and good at what he does everytime I have eaten there (3 or 4). I love the disney references they try to incorporate into the "show"...flipping shrimp tail back and forth saying "Finding Nemo", making the cut onions into a massive mickey on the grill....etc.
