Hi all. Going to Disney in June, and looking for some new restaurants to try. Thought about Teppan Edo in Epcot. Anyone been there? Was wondering about the experience and the food. Is it worth the price? Any advice or stories would be appreciated. There's 4 in our party.

Have you been to a Japanese Steakhouse? If not go here. But if you have expeienced Teppan style cooking I reccomend skipping it. Prices as I remember are comparable to other Japanese Steakhouses.

I echo this sentiment. I have been to a number of Japanese Restaurants that have this type of dining, and to me Teppan Edo was lacking. Yes, it provided the same level of fun, but the food and entertainment were nothing special compared to what I know elsewhere. If you've never been to a hibachi style restaurant though, then it might be fun to check out.

Just wanted to state that I agree with both of the other posters. If you have been to a hibachi restaurant or at least have one closer to you, skip TE. If you have never been to a hibachi restaurant and don't have a decent one near you it will be worth checking out.

also note that it is not a traditional style Japanese steakhouse. it is more of a hibachi bar. most Japanese steakhouses have wide assortments of meats and seafood and you order them raw to the table. you then proceed to cook the items your desired temperature on a mini grill set into the middle of the table.

teppan is like a benihana and unless you dont have one in your town i would probably skip. that being said lots of people still enjoy teppan even if they have them in their town because ....well....its disney!

I haven't ever been to one. My sister went and really enjoyed it, so when we were thinking about dining I threw it out as an idea. We hardly eat anywhere in World Showcase and have been trying to "expand our horizons" by eating new places.

My family went and really enjoyed it. After so many days of "park food", it was refreshing to have some really good shrimp. The kids enjoyed it, too. And we did have a good "show". We'd go back.

We enjoyed it in September. I'd recommend though that you get "early" dinner reservations.

We had reservations for 8:00PM on our arrival day, and ended up getting seated closer to 8:45PM. I think as the evening progresses the tables don't always "turn" as scheduled, pushing out later seatings, etc.

On the bright side, our chef was American who pretended he was "Japanese". Was a good time. :sohappy:

We enjoyed it on our last trip even though we've been to a hibachi type restuarant before.

You will likely be seated with another party - which we enjoyed, but just so you know.

It's exactly like every other hibachi place in this country. I would say the food is no better and no worse. I went last year and personally won't go again. Not because it was inferior or we had bad service (the service is actually remarkeable). Rather, there are much more unique places to eat on property. That being said if you have never eaten at a hibachi restaurant I would definitely go. It is really a great time.

Hibachi style food. Consistently good. If you're a fan of this style/type of food than I'd go for it - even if you have a place like it at home. We did and we loved it. Prices are comparable with hibachi style places at home. But if you're a fan of that style of food and would enjoy it - then go for it!

We went in October, and were not impressed. I asked my mother if there was a particular restaurant she wanted to eat at on our next trip, she said no but she did not want that Japanese place again.

People some of us do not have anything like this near our homes. SO YES GO.. it is good and very entertaining.. We loved it and the food is so good.. EVEN if you have been to one at least you know it will taste good unlike some Disney restaurants.. Tons of bads ones out there if you ask alot of us.. Tired of the negativity to those that get to go to a place like this.. We dont all live in huge fast paced towns some of us a rural and even at that just do not have anything like it. You will really enjoy it especially if you have never been to something like this. Our son in law is going the first time on Friday 27th he does not eat anything Asian but this is so different he will really like it. It really is like good steak, chicken and shrimp just done on a grill and to perfection

I eat hibachi regularly and still go. That being said, I agree, its nothing spectacular, but still fun as I find it interesting to strike up a conversation with the other group at the table.

try it....

We ate at Teppan Edo for the first time back in September and let me tell you - my kids LOVED it! My DH and I had been to one years and years ago so we enjoyed it, too. We thought the food was very good with the exception of dessert. The chocolate ginger cake was horrible! And none of us ordered the green tea pudding. The only draw back was the wait. Even though we had a reservation I know we waited at least 20-30 minutes to be seated. Once we were a great time was had by all.

I say try it! You've got nothing to lose really.:)

I rate it a notch below the teppan places around here, but then thats because we have some good ones here. I understand that for people that don't have them near their houses, Teppan Edo is a place they want to go.

I found them OK. The chef we had was pretty lackluster, and that can make or break the meal (I know, it can be luck of the draw). She was pretty quiet the whole time, not interacting much. She also made a Mickey head out of onion rings, then sliced it up while saying "Oh no, Mickey died - don't cry, don't cry" A bit strange - maybe she was new and was working on her act.

By all mean, it's not a bad place. Just not something that stands out to me as a must visit.

One thing to note....if you are going in expecting fried rice....you will be disappointed...they bring you out a bowl of steamed rice :(

Other than that....our family really enjoyed our experiences there.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

If you could recommend anywhere to go in World Showcase BESIDES Teppan Edo? Where would you go? We've tried Le Cellier and liked it, and we really don't like spicy food.

Chefs de France is good, and so is Biergarten but it's not to everyones liking. A friend of mine ate at the Chinese restaurant 2 weeks ago and liked it very much but I've never eaten there myself. Restaurant Akershus is very good but is a character meal.
