Tell me all about Castaway Cay

Hi Jo,

I honestly don't remember if there are lockers at Castaway Cay. We've been several times and have never wanted to use one, so I can't remember off the top of my head if there are any. I'll dig a little more, tho, to try and find out.

Second, we take our own snorkel gear as well. You do have to wear a floatie vest on the family beach, but last time I was there, there was no charge for them. They were handing them out with no problems.

Son of a GUN!!! Tammy beat me again!!!!!

Haha! You've got to be quicker!! :)

One minute!! You beat me by one lousy minute!!

Question, Tammy: When your hubby ran the 5k, did he get anything for running it? A pin, a photo, a certificate of completion? Something like that? Or you just get to say you ran it? I'm curious b/c I'm going to do it next month.

Lol!

He's done it twice now. The first time he just got a certificate. Last time he got a plastic medal and his bib with number. I think that was all, I'll have to check my trip report. Shortly after that time they came out with CC 5K T-shirts and Kelly picked one up for me and brought it back. It was a nice Father's Day gift. :)

All we got was the medal at the finish line and your bib. You could also buy the T-shirt. They no longer give out certificates. I was hoping for a kiss from the presenter of the medal but alas they only do that in cycling. I guess I need to get on the winner's podium more.

Thanks for that guys I think DCL has missed out on something here. I will be wanting to take photos, but I won't leave my DSLR on the beach while we go snorkling. I have a waterproof camcorder so I guess I will just use that, or use the DSLR and then go and put it back on board when we go in the water! TTFN Jo

You *could* always try to get in on a cabana -then you would have plenty of space for your stuff.

I won't have that much my good camera is expensive, and I would just wan't to take some photos and the go snorkelling, like I said I have an waterproof camcorder which I will use whilst in the water.
I think they have missed the boat on this one (sorry for the pun) I am guessing here but if they had locker may be more people could take part in activities, as some families must have to leave someone sitting with their stuff. I have seen the amount of stuff some people take to the parks! If I did leave my camera in a bag on the beach and something happened to it, I am sure my insurance company would just replace it!!!! LOL
I have emailed DCL about this and I have a response, that say there are no lockers and they suggest leaving valuables on board, thanks for that!
I guess I will work it out, thanks for the info.

The thing is, besides a camara, what are people really going to bring to CC - maybe a book or magazine. Anything you can buy there, you just charge back to your room. A lot of stuff is free.

Nobody is bringing food or water - there is no need. No need for car keys or a wallet - just you room key card, which can go in a pocket. We in fact found we had the oppsite problem. Normaly we would put somthing on the chairs to let people know they are taken (towels dont work to well, because people leave them behind so others assume the chairs are free for use) When we were using our snorkling equipment, they only thing that we had to stake our chairs with were T shirts and flip flops - not much in the way of stuff.

I don't think the majority of quests would need a locker. But still, I am suprized that they did not install a few for the guests that do want them.

I don't think the majority would use one either, but some might. I have a very expensive SLR, and I don't have any problems leaving it in my chair when we're snorkeling. I don't leave it sitting out for the world to see, but it's there in a bag or under towels. Someone would really have to be digging through my stuff just in the hope they may happen upon something. They know there's no cash and they won't be able to use my Key to the World card, so they're taking a risk that someone would see them, and that they would actually find anything of value. I'm sure that's a deterrent for most people. :)

And not to mention Tammy they are stuck on a ship with you if they are caught. That is a pretty long ride back to port tending to your cuts and bruises after you have been taken care of by myself. Oh wait did I say that out loud? LOL But it seems to me that since there is no cash involved which is brilliant on Disney's part to include the purchases on CC with the KTTW card and offer free lunch & drinks.

That's true! Maybe I'll have to take you next time! Lol!

It is brilliant on Disney's part. So much about Castaway Cay is just brilliant!
