I dont think my vote is going to be enough to change what's in first. To me skies and weather seem like 2 different things that could be a theme for a pavilion but that's just me.
I think they mesh well in the same vein that Kitchen Cabaret existed in the Land next to Living with the Land. Those two concepts go hand in hand when it comes to existence.

To me weather comes from the skies and air. Rain, snow, hail all from clouds. Sandstorms, Hurricanes, Twisters are all (essentially) really strong wind which comes from the sky/air. Sunshine comes for the sky, and fog is a cloud (right? I'm not crazy on that one). But yeah for me sky and weather go more hand in hand than the Kitchen Cabaret and Living the Land situation they had, but that can just be me 😅

More on weather and climate, the water cycle and clouds and such.
To me that's more a weather pavilion sans the sky elements to me 😅 . Im not really well versed in DisneySky, and I'm not sure how much my ideas differ from @D Hulk presented there. With that said I just pitched what I felt would have been a typical Epcot pavilion in the 80's while utilizing ideas from some of other members of the team like @TheSquirrel and @Brer Panther

I thought about that too. The way I look at it, we’re not focusing on the skies in the same way as, say, DisneySky. More on weather and climate, the water cycle and clouds and such.

I hear ya. Just seemed like most things that came up were aviation/flight related instead of weather science.
We should replace the Living Seas with the Weather/Sky pavilion as it's the easiest space to work in and the Land and Sky have the same yin yang as the Land and Sea.

Weather/Sky Pavilion (The World Above Pavilion?) presented by Delta Airlines?

Bringing back out the ideas I listed out earlier:

80's
An opening 1987 for Epcot's 5th Anniversary? Replacing Living Seas?
  • Take Flight (If You Had Wings successor)
    • Magic Kingdom ride closes to be a Tron omnimover freeing up that concept for
    • Aerial dark ride over some major destinations that Delta flew too at the time, ride system offers diversity to park lineup
    • Ride vehicles are Hot Air Balloons?
  • The Sky was the Limit: A History of Aviation
    • History of Aviation Walkthrough & Theater Film
  • Forecast Follies
    • Weather based animatronic show ala Kitchen Cabaret, Carousel of Progress, etc.
  • Walt Disney's Airplane
    • We could have it displayed within the pavilion given MGM had yet to open so it wasn't in the Backlot Tour.
  • Tastemoshphere
    • Quick service spot that will definitely have food better than airplane food
    • Mashup of Taste and Atmosphere
  • Runway Gifts
    • Pavilion giftshop
1996
  • Ludwig Von Drake presents The Sky was the Limit: A History of Aviation
2000
  • Forecast Follies 2.0
    • Hipper version of the show ala Food Rocks!
2004/5
  • Take Flight closes
    • Soarin replaces it
  • Delta Airlines pulls out at the end of 2005
2020s
This summarizes everything someone has suggested for the postion
  • Replacement of either History of Aviation Walkthrough & Theater Film or The Skies Above or both with an IP attraction
    • Possibly The Rocketeer?
  • Parachute Drop Tower Outside?
  • Rocketeer attraction?
  • KUKA Arm Coaster from @Solaris Knight

It hasn't really come up this season with all the unique destinations and not sure how it plays out in this SYWTBAI and SAU crossover, but assuming Turkey pavilion is still a thing (86 or 88 i think?), there is a hot air balloon ride a few years after park opening.

Good catch! I checked the official list of SAU changes and Turkey was still there.

What about a flying machine vehicle for the aerial dark ride? The top part of the structure could hide the mechanisms that keep the plane up, and a bench and lap bar in between the top and bottom parts. Could be designed after this picture:

The aerial dark ride would still offer diversity from the many omnimovers of Future World (4 including Figment) with the hanging down component adding a sense of thrill with the effect of wind being blown by guests like on Soarin, or maybe even have the ride have faster parts much like ET Adventure over at Universal.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think we should focus more on flight/aviation and less on weather, the Forecast Follies is still a must-have.
I think the outline of ideas I threw out a bit earlier matches with that sentiment then :D

I will also like to bring up the total bop that is the Dreamflights theme

Such a shame this pavilion would have a domino effect killing that ride and thus the song 😫

I know this is supposed to show the pavilion at 3 different points in time, but I think that opening day park is where the bulk of the work/presentation should be. Really nail down and make it fully fleshed out for the first 20 years so it's complete, and then the 2 updates being more highlights as opposed to trying to create 3 pavilions. Not to gloss over those years entirely, just make sure there's a perfect foundation to build on.

It was an easy catch on my part (my ride. Lol).

If I remember right Microverse went where Seas was going too, so don't think any major things to worry about in the later years since that plot is spoken for now wiping our both of them.

SAU at this point is all about domino's. Lol. Unless you are in just a really unique period, you are scrapping either an oldie but goodie or some other SAU creation.

In terms of pavilion design we could pull inspiration from modern airplane terminals that still feel very Epcoty

A Pan Am Terminal inspired façade could be interesting. I think we would realistically have to cut back on that huge awning, but we should definitely keep it in a reduced format. Another option could be Spaceport America which also offers an interesting shape:

Another neat idea is to base incorporate an airplane into the architecture similar in idea to Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan.

It would have to be smaller in scale than really any of these suggestions, but they each look son interesting. I think each plays with geometric shapes with the first set of pictures seeming the most Epcot like for me, but that last terminal looks really cool in concept!

Completely agreed on this count! The most detail should go to the first part in the 80's after that small details should trickle down for the updated versions or replacements in our pavilion.

Basing it off the outline I had posted earlier I could see each of the changes from opening to 2020 being a few paragraphs as they're smaller concepts that either are easy to discuss once the main thing is built or already exist so would require a short write up for any changes (like Soarin replacing the dark ride)

I think whatever we choose for the 2020's should be a highlight along with is written for the 80's section given that's how our big closer.

It was an easy catch on my part (my ride. Lol).
Makes sense on how you're so knowledgeable about it then, lol 😅

That is very true 😅

Some other possible sponsors from Delta Airlines:
  • Boeing
  • Airbus, could be a middle finger of sorts to Boeing. Their European rival is ironically sponsoring a pavilion at Walt Disney World, the crown jewel of Americana.
This could be played off as a way that one of those two companies flex on the other. Would also allow for larger budget and thus likelier sponsor than Delta when it comes to a whole Epcot pavilion. Would also definitely fit in with the rivalry story that two have going on in the mid/late 1980's into the 1990's and still to this day.

But what about the manatees?? And those hydrolators created a childhood memory that you are going to rob me of!
KUKA Arm Coaster from @Solaris Knight
I’d need to research that to know exactly what you are referring to, but that sounds more exciting than my modified drop tower!

Basically Forbidden Journey but with more coaster elements. Also probably with more individual jetpack set-ups? The point is to make you the guest feel like the Rocketeer, with the same sort of going up and down interactivity of a Dumbo. This will be the focus of the 2020 refurb.

Daily Log: 3/21

Congrats team seems like we're all settled on the pavilion theme :D Now time for a wrap up involving all and any ideas involving today's discussion on the pavilion.
Potential Name(s):
  • The World Above Pavilion
  • Any others?
Potential Pavilion Sponsor(s):
  • Delta Airlines
  • Boeing
  • Airbus
  • Any others?
Potential Inspirations:
Opening Day Potential Lineup:
  • Take Flight (If You Had Wings successor)
    • Magic Kingdom ride closes to be a Tron omnimover freeing up that concept for
    • Aerial dark ride over some major destinations that airlines flew too at the time, ride system offers diversity to Future World
    • Ride vehicles are old school flying machines?
Potential Pavilion Timeline:
  • 1996: Ludwig Von Drake presents The Sky was the Limit: A History of Aviation
  • 2000: Forecast Follies 2.0
    • Hipper version of the show ala Food Rocks!
  • 2004/5: Take Flight closes and Soarin replaces it, I'm assuming this would be an annex similar to what was done in the Land in our timeline
    • Would this version still be the CA variant? Or would it be Soarin over Florida? Or Soarin Over the World?
    • In 2016 do we want to open an additional theater like in the real timeline? Do we include the change into Soarin' Over the World or a different refresh?
  • 2020s
    • Seems like Rocketeer is the IP being looked at? Any others we could use?
    • Seems like we are we heading towards the KUKA Arm Coaster from @Solaris Knight
    • Would this be a replacement of either The Sky was the Limit attraction or Forecast Follies or both?
    • Would this be another new annex ala Soarin at the Land? All indoors ala Gaurdians?
Misc:
  • Location seems set to replace The Living Seas
  • @MickeyWaffleCo. is already at work with some sweet tunes!

Let me know if I missed something from this list :D

When the time comes to delegate roles I feel like whoever chooses something should also work on its update it the future. Example whoever works on The Sky was the Limit: A History of Aviation should probably work on the update hosted by Ludwig Von Drake and same goes for Forecast Follies as this would allow for the changes to be smooth between years.
