Semi Finals: The Best Picture Show

For this project, Team Prospero must pick one Best Picture nominee or winner to design an E-Ticket attraction around. I want to stress that picking something outside the box will be PIVOTAL this round. While all of Space, the jury, and TMNT will have a hand in picking members of the final three based on the results of this project, I can safely say that IP choice is not to be taken lightly and I'll definitely be basing at least some of my vote on if the IP chosen was a good one or not. With that being said there's some films on the list that are simply off-limits for the "too easy" factor. These movies include...

-The Lord of the Rings trilogy
-District 9
-Avatar
-Up
-Inception
-Toy Story 3
-Mad Max: Fury Road
-Black Panther
-Joker

As previously stated, Space, TMNT, and the jury will each be hand-picking ONE member of the final five to advance to the final three. The stakes have never been higher. DO NOT be one of the two people not chosen to advance to the last round. Good luck team, this project is due Tuesday, August 18th at 11:59PM Eastern.

Ok, boys. It's down to the wire. This is what I'm thinking right off the bat.

.Grand Budapest Hotel - trackless attraction through the hotel/ town.
.The Artist - I'm not sure what to do this this; I'd just really love to have an attraction based on silent cinema.
.La La Land - A sort of abstract musical attraction could be really really cool.
.Hugo - I would ADORE a dark ride through Hugo. Just picturing the train station and the Melies stuff, this could be amazing.
.Gravity - Could be an interesting simulator? My only holdup is that the film is really about loneliness, and it would be a disservice to have this with groups.
.1917 could be interesting - a WWI-based educational attraction?

You’ll be... entertained.

I like the idea of 1917 and Grand Budapest, but I’ll try to think of some more. If everyone’s okay with it, I’d really like to be PM this round!
By all means.

I'm not sure what my favorite is out of my ideas, but I do really like the aesthetics of Grand Budapest.

I also forgot to mention Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I just picture an attraction through 60s Hollywood being really striking. Maybe a slot car ride system?

Alright. This is going to be a fun round. I think every single movie can be adapted into an interesting e-ticket. However, only one will work the best. Here are some of my thoughts.

Jojo Rabbit: A propaganda theater show starring a friendly Hitler and German High Command. Sing along with such classic hits as “March the Childern Off to War!” and “Don’t Ask Questions!” Oh, I can already see the terrible PR this would get irl. Ends with them all gloriously getting shot by Soviet/American troops.

Inglorious Bastards: What’s with me and Nazis today? Anyways this would start with an animatronic Brad Pitt giving you a top secret Nazi killing mission. You are in a simulator with four people, with the ability to control the mechanics like Smuggler’s Run. You see when I think of this movie I think not only the violence but also the amazing buildup of tension. You have to infiltrate a German base by correctly answering questions. The lies don’t matter as long as they add up... so if the first person responds to “where you soldiers from” with Barbossa the fourth person better not say “yeah” to “D-Day’s been rough hasn’t it?” later down. See how far you can go without alerting the base. Will they catch on? Can you get to Hitler’s bunker in time? If you ever fail, all the tension building releases into Toy Story Mania on steroids and you start comedically shooting everyone with one hit kills as blood is spilling everywhere and your vehicles become invincible.

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood: Not my idea but someone in the podcast brought up a Cliff Booth stunt show. I want this so bad.

I swear I watch other movies than Tarantino / Nazi satire

I'm pretty iffy on WWII, personally. As much as I absolutely adore JoJo Rabbit, I think that we wouldn't be smart to work with WWII let alone have a funny ride based on it.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I really like, but I think that we can do more with it than just a stunt show. This is actually our last project together. Let's go all out with it.

I think that a good place to start would be looking at the films stylistically. A lot of these films are weird artsy films with super serious subjects, so that's going to limit us a bit with what is viable/ what might be disrespectful for us to work with.

I think that the most visually striking films that I can think of going off of the list are:
.Grand Budapest
.La La Land
.The Artist
.Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (or any Tarantino film really.)
.Hugo

Films like these would lend themselves very well to interesting set pieces and premises. That's where I'm at right now. I just worry about lessening the impact of certain films that should be taken with respect.

I am still stuck on this call (kill me lol) so my ideas might have to wait until the morning but one I wanted to share now:

Dunkirk with Shanghai Pirates technology.

That film is what it is due to the atmosphere and I think the only way it could work as a ride is how Shanghai did their pirates.

Yes, lots of these movies are interesting but not necessarily visually striking or with huge set pieces to base a ride on. Take for instance Green Book. It’s a pretty good movie but doesn’t work at all for a theme park ride.

La La Land almost works too well.. feels too easy for me.
