Team Prospero Brainstorming Thread - Project Ten: The Great Literature Ride

I'd get rid of Children's Literature (for same reasons as stated above) and Romance (I'm not convinced that it would as well as the other genres in ride form: maybe someone can throw something out and convince me to change my mind)
At least for me, I like including Romance as a way to feature a portion with more of a spotlight on quieter character elements, sort of like how GMR gave some spotlight on romance with Casablanca. Of course, I fully admit my own influence also comes from the idea of Pride and Prejudice potentially appearing.

That said, as I think on it, I might be willing to trade out Romance and keep Adventure. To be honest, Adventure can easily help to offer room for more international works in the attraction.

What about cutting mystery? It sounds good at first glance, but when we break it down, it's a really niche genre without much opportunity for expansion. I can't think of how we would set one of the mystery scenes apart from another, asides from a different setting. If we are really set to including it, maybe splice it into horror and have one mystery, one horror room.

The more I think about it, the more opportunities Adventure and Romance offer when compared to Mystery.

I only voted to keep Mystery as I think Murder on the Orient Express and Sherlock Holmes are pretty big mystery novels that could work. I could also be persuaded to cut it though

Honestly, you do raise a very good point. Mystery is an iconic genre with filled all sorts of memorable detectives, but it really is more those detectives that most remember, rather than just specific stories within their worlds. Also, it might be a bit harder to deliver something visual for a theme park ride with that genre.

True, true. Major pillars in the history of literature, but there might not be as much to expand there. Perhaps they could get a reference somewhere else, like perhaps portraits of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot in the queue.

That definitely works for me. Sherlock Holmes is definitely iconic but I don’t know if he needs a whole section himself

How does this sound?
  1. Mythology
  2. Fantasy
  3. Science Fiction
  4. Horror
  5. Adventure
  6. Romance
(I'm imagining this order would flow best)
I do like the flow and structure there. I could potentially see swapping out Romance with Historical Epic, which could give some grand final scenes before getting into the ride's end. Of course, going with Romance could give a quieter ease towards the finish. Besides that, it makes for a good flow for the ride (which I picture as having a beginning and end which would "bookend" the whole experience).

I only want Children's Literature for Roald Dahl, but it seems like no one else wants it lol.

Definitely cut romance. We really don't need it.

Fantasy, between ASOIAF or LotR, or whatever really, would give us a super great grand scene. That's the same reason that I'd like Historical Epic, though I know that it's a bit high concept as well.

I really like that! In terms of Fantasy, I’d love to include books with more of a “modern” setting like one of the works of Ronald Dhal alongside something more “fantastical” like the Hobbit.

Yes, with children's lit going Fantasy definitely should be one half "standard fantasy" and another half a more modern children's fantastical setting. Roald Dahl was one of my favorites growing up so I'd love to see him included somehow... do you think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would work?

What about using historical epic as the "finale" room? So in total, there'd be 13 showrooms, with romance in 11 and 12 and historical epic in 13. It could be a giant chaotic battleground... how about using War and Peace?

I think Romance would balance out the more action-heavy books. Pride and Prejudice springs to mind as an iconic first option, while the second one could be more modern.

Maybe riders just go through the “tunnel” scene or the room where everything is candy with an instrumental version of “I’ve got a Golden Ticket” playing.

I think that it could work as a small transition scene. Like Casablanca in GMR, maybe.
That actually could work. We go through the first five genres like in the outline @Outbound has, we do a smaller scene of Romance as a breather, and then go into a grand finale with Historical Epic.

That flow could actually work really well. In fact, I'd be good with that as the flow for our attraction.
