Wanting to clarify, are the two parades in separate parks, and if so, which park for which?
I think I’m doing the one for WDSP. I don’t know if your doing two parades, which might be what you’re talking about, but I think yours is in DLP.Wanting to clarify, are the two parades in separate parks, and if so, which park for which?
I'm just doing the one (I think!), but I was thinking that made the most sense tooI think I’m doing the one for WDSP. I don’t know if your doing two parades, which might be what you’re talking about, but I think yours is in DLP.
Yes! I understood it as you doing the nighttime parade in DLP (a la MSEP, Spectromagic, etc.) while Nigelchanning was doing the daytime WDSP parade. If I misunderstood, please feel free to correct me!I'm just doing the one (I think!), but I was thinking that made the most sense too
I love the idea of the facade being a Nickelodeon!!While the queue for the attraction will be based on the Astronomy Club and work lab from the silent film, what should the facade for the attraction be? While it certain makes sense for the entrance of the attraction to look like a main entrance for the Astronomy Club, part of me was thinking of the idea of the entrance facade being a Nickelodeon (the earliest type of movie theater) with a poster for the Georges Melies film on display. Perhaps something like this:
Everything looks great! Is there anything you want me to do in terms of the park refresh? I just don’t want to start working on something you’re already working on.Hey, there. I'm working on a write-up right now for a replacement of Hyperspace Mountain. As part of a general redesign to bring back the steampunk/Jules Verne-inspired aesthetic to Discoveryland, we'd be revamping it as Space Mountain: Le Voyage Dans La Lune. Yes, riders will be taking another trip to the Moon like the first iteration, though instead of being rooted in the Jules Verne novel "From the Earth to the Moon", this time riders will be stepping into the famous Georges Melies silent film.
While I'm working on that, I thought I'd ask a quick question. This way, the idea would be like you're walking out of your ordinary world and stepping into the imaginative world that Melies had first brought to the silver screen over a century ago.
No worries. Space Mountain is a definite for me. I should probably ask if there was anything that you were interested in doing with the Discoveryland enhancement/refresh. Anything you think that would need to be addressed with this refresh?Everything looks great! Is there anything you want me to do in terms of the park refresh? Other than Space, I liked Ace’s idea of retheming Pizza Planet, so at least that. Outside of that I’ll have to look again, but offhand I don’t think that the land needs much else.No worries. Yeah, it doesn't need a lot. Mostly some minor refreshments to bring back the steampunk feel. I'd have to look more into it, as well. Space Mountain just seems like the biggest thing to do with Discoveryland, and what better addition for an anniversary than restoring Space Mountain in a way that recaptures some of its old magic with a new approach?Other than Space, I liked Ace’s idea of retheming Pizza Planet, so at least that. I love this description! Those are all great movies to use! My only suggestion is maybe Finding Nemo/ Dory instead of Aladdin due to the water nature of the show! Here's a short description of the new nighttime show on Lake Buena Vista. Let me know what you guys think.
"As day turns to night, magic will fill the skies above Lake Buena Vista in Walt Disney Studios Park's newest nighttime spectacular, Disney's Wonder by Wonder*! Come join Mickey in his famous role as the Sorcerer's Apprentice and watch as he goes beyond the four walls of the workshop and steps into worlds of color, light, and magic. As he goes into the unknown, Mickey will discover the many hopes, dreams, adversities, and triumphs that make up the wonderful world of Disney. Wonder by Wonder will feature beloved Disney films and characters, like Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Alladin, The Princess and the Frog, Frozen, Moana, and more."
The film titles that will be represented in the show can still be replaced as we see fit. The setlist really halted my progress tbh, so I opted not to push that one but instead chose appropriate films that fulfill the main premise and its branch-offs.
*Working title, by the way. Feel free to make suggestions!
Wow. Wow. Wow. You have me SOLD! This is a beautiful way to bring this attraction into a new age while also having ties to its past. A perfect way to start the anniversary celebration! As @JokersWild and I think about Discoveryland, there is one major thing that would have to be redone: Space Mountain. The attraction has such a tie to this land, and had been a landmark when it first appeared in Disneyland Paris as a ride based around the Jules Verne literary classic "From the Earth to the Moon". Nowadays, it has just been made into a Star Wars tie-in, for the annoyance of some. As part of an enhancement to restore the land's steampunk roots and sense of wonder, Space Mountain would be renovated to regain that wonder. Rather than just recreate everything from that first ride, why not recapture it through a new lens? Rather than the Jules Verne novel, we turn to the Georges Melies film. We turn to...Space Mountain: La Voyage Dans La Lune.
Space Mountain: Le Voyage Dans La Lune
Step inside an old Nickelodeon, and emerge into a world of travel among the stars as envisioned by famed filmmaker Georges Melies. An astronomy club becomes the sight of an astounding journey to the moon, as you climb into a cannon shell and get blasted onto a fantastical journey to the moon.
Queue: Guests approach the massive structure of Space Mountain, with the iconic steampunk cannon on the side. However, the more striking feature now added to the structure is the entrance into the building. Waiting for guests is a Nickelodeon, one of the earliest forms of the movie theater. Its logo “Le Theatre Magique” sits atop its façade, as signs advertise movies for a cheap price. In one display is a poster for the movie that this Nickelodeon is most prominently pushing: “Le Voyage Dans La Lune”, better known in English language countries as “A Trip to the Moon”. The poster features art of one of the major iconic images from the film, and possibly in the history of cinema: the Man in the Moon, with the rocket in his eye.

Entering the Nickelodeon, guests walk through a hallway lined with movie posters, depicting other movies that had been made by Georges Melies. Taking a turn, they enter a screening room, walking down the aisle past seats and towards the screen. However, there is no screen: stepping forward, guests find themselves in the Astronomy Club from the film. The debate room has a chalkboard, featuring the drawing of their plan for shooting a shell to the moon. Walking through the halls of the Astronomy Club, guests walk past numerous astronomy charts and the member robes hung up. Eventually, they enter the work lab, where an in-progress version of the shell is on display. There are also numerous tools scattered about for continuing the work, along with schematics for the finished shell. Eventually, guests descend downstairs towards the loading area, where their ride vehicle awaits.

Ride Description: Once riders are safely secured into the ride vehicle (designed to resemble the firing shell), they move forward and stop in position inside the cannon. As they wait, riders hear a voice call out (in French), “Are you ready? Ladies and gentleman…to the Moon!”. With that, a loud cannon fire is heard as guests are launched forward at a high speed. They speed ahead, making plenty of sudden turns and twists as they fly among the stars. As they fly through space and past stars, guests will see a variety of images from Melies’s silent film: a soaring comet, the Big Dipper with grinning faces in the stars, Phoebe seated on her crescent-moon swing, and old man Saturn seated among his rings watching. Rather than be exact matches, the images would be more stylized renditions of the characters from the classic film.

Among the turns and twists, riders would see the sight they’ve been waiting: the Moon, with the Man in the Moon reacting in shock at their fast approach. Eventually, riders would take a turn into the brake run, looking like the lunar surface from the film. As they pass through the rocky terrain, two Selenite figures would lunge toward the ride vehicle for a small scare. Escaping the attacking aliens, riders would appear to “slide” off a cliff, with some perspective tricks making it look like they’re falling back to Earth. Eventually, riders emerge back in the light and reach the unloading station.
