Oh, there’s definitely a misunderstanding. I’m not expecting you guys to work on this. This is something that I’d like to do as an aside to the project. Of course the park would be the priority, I just think that this would be a fun weird thing to present with it. The most I may ask is for small “acting” roles if you guys would be up for it.

That being said, I intend to work on the actual park as much as I can as well.

Ahhhh gotcha gotcha... that sounds good then haha, as long as we’re trying to split things up as best as possible

That was genuinely one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen...

So one of the most interesting things about the movie in my opinion is the linearity of it. Like the entire first half of the movie was:
1. Insert Character
2. Character Sings
3. Victoria Watches
4. Rinse and Repeat

So I think we go for something completely different than the traditional Hub and Spoke or even the Circular model seen in World Showcase, DCA, or DisneySea... I propose doing an entirely linear theme park. I realize how crazy that sounds, so hear me out... there's gonna be exits in each land or whatever, and it wouldn't be like an exactly linear park in that there's no overlap or anything, but for the most part, there is a sequential order to what you're experiencing. The reason for this is twofold. First, it fits with the tone of the movie without necessarily making a mirror of the plot, and secondly, it gives us true control over the story. So basically, we go through lands and end in a land with the Ball, and at the end, people get in the chandelier balloon thing and go back to the entrance/exit. I haven't thought that part out too much.

Actually, to help ease that rigid feeling of a linear park, maybe the lands can overlap and it's easy to go between lands without "progressing" further down the line, but at the end, guests reach that end point... it doesn't make sense to go to the Ball and then somewhere else in my opinion (other than Heaviside Layer potentially)... but that's just what I'm thinking. I don't know about individual lands yet, but since we're literally starting from the ground up, I figured the best place to start would be with the birds eye view of the layout before we think about lands (location-based versus character-based, etc etc)... feel free to tell me I'm crazy, but I think it's an interesting idea for sure hahaha

I'm gonna go to sleep now, but I'll be back on first thing tomorrow!

Oh boy, I feel I just got out of a 2 hr prison sentence... this will be difficult to adapt. There’s no real story and I’m really confused with how this world works.

Goofy, I like your idea in concept, but I think it would be difficult to create in execution. Instead I propose we expand out the “Cats” universe (ugh this sounds so bad)

So keeping with the concept that Universal Creative actually has no idea what they’re doing, they decide to rip-off beloved DisneySea by creating multiple lands themed to different places in the world all inhabited by Jellicile Cats. You see, master criminal Macavity is part of an international society known as P.U.R.R. which is really just Macavity’s best Dr. Evil impression. Meanwhile the rest of the cats are doing their own thing.

Some ideas for lands
  • London: Entrance and the main land based directly on the movie. Some idea for attractions include: Trackless Dancing Ride in the Theater, Kiddie Coaster for the two thieves, Magic Show for the magician cat, and Dining in the trash with the fat cat.
  • Egypt: What a better place for cats? They were treated like Gods! Journey with a rip-off Indiana Jones cat that sings into the Great Pryamids to meet the God of Cats.
  • Jungle: Rip-off Jungle Cruise but with cats? idk
  • Swiss Apls: Perhaps Macavity’s secret layer is here. They do call him a master criminal.
  • And then probably a fifth land, not sure what.
And connecting all of this, Shimbleshanks the Railway Cat is here to provide you with your transportation needs!

This would keep one land themed very much to the area we see in Cats, with a bunch of things to do connected directly to the movie, but also provide us with the opportunity to expand out the park naturally with some original characters and stories, and not force ourselves to adapt every scene just to get a park’s worth of content.

I think I agree with Outbound. I'm about to sit down to watch this mess, but as it stands I'd really love to have the hub be the trash yard with a hot air balloon standing as the main weenie. Instead of a proper fireworks show, we have a truncated 15 minute version of the show, ending with Grizabella ascending to the Heaviside Layer aboard the hot air balloon.

Aside from that, I'm way down for the rides to be purposely terrible (for the most part.) I think a Cat name generator would be hilarious and totally something that Universal would try to do to be trendy. Stuff like that. Of course, no matter what we do, we need to present this totally straight like we're creating the pinnacle of themed entertainment.

Just finished the movie:

@mickeyfan5534 and @TheOriginalTiki what cursed knowledge have you foisted upon us?

Right off the bat, there's a frankly disgusting number of cat puns in the scenery. We should absolutely be using these in our lands/ shop/ restaurant/ whatever names.

Aside from that, I think that the park should stay mostly relegated to London in setting. Some of the songs do have weird interludes in different settings, which I think that we could use for rides, but generally, I oddly think that there's enough to go on setting-wise that we shouldn't have to deviate too far from the film's settings

I like Outbound’s idea, but it feels kind of generic if that makes sense? Like it’s almost a World Showcase of cats instead of people... I think it makes more sense to go full Cats dedication here and try and set the whole thing in London. I think large parts of the park would be indoors with oversized buildings... unless guests aren’t supposed to be in the place of the cats, in which case, we need to plan out some training of actual cats 🤣. But if guests are supposed to be in the place of the cats, than it doesn’t make a ton of sense to go around the world.
I agree that this has to be presented like the pinnacle of entertainment, and that’s part of the reason that I think it still makes sense to have some kind of linearity in terms of a defined beginning and end point of the park because I just think it’d be weird to go from the Ball to the barge or something like that... of course it would be possible, but it’s not the natural flow of things. Maybe we make it like America in the WS, with it being at the “center” and have the option for guests to take a balloon to the entrance or something like that?

Personally, I don't think that the settings we choose have to take place in the exact place that they show up in the "story." Like, we could have the Egyptian Theater with whatever, then a River Thames land with Growltiger's Garbage Barge River Run, then Jennyanydot's house with the cockroach ride. The more I write this the worse it becomes, but the point stands that we can have lands themed to settings without having to take place in the timeframe of the show.

Oh I agree about that... I’m just saying that having a sort of “conclusion” makes sense to me. I guess it could even be a Hub and Spoke with the ball in the Fantasyland section or something... I don’t know haha, I’m just thinking that, since this is already such an out of the box (and UNREALISTIC), we might as well do something out of the box in the design... and like I said, it doesn’t have to be linear as long as there’s a feeling that you’ve reached a “conclusion” so to speak, even though there’s more of the park you can explore

I mean, that's kinda what I suggested earlier - have the ball take place in the hub, have the park's icon be the balloon, and the night ends with a small 15 minute "Cats-lite" with the balloon (and Grizabella) ascending into the Heaviside Layer as the show's climax.

True haha... I’ll try to think of other out of the box ideas, this was one that just struck me right away because of the way the movie is laid out
