Taxi fare WDW to Universal

Hi all,

Has anyone taken a taxi recently from Disney to Universal and could give me a rough idea of fares? I'm just trying to balance out the cost of taking a taxi v's hiring a car.

We are a group of 7 staying at Saratoga Springs.

In a regular cab including tip I recall paying somewhere between $30-$40 one way.
There's also the Mears shuttle which is around $18/person round trip.
I'm thinking of renting a car this next trip just for the flexibility because we'll be going to Universal and possibly Sea World.

So glad that you asked this question, because I am in the process of trying to to figure out the same thing... When I searched on like, I got the same estimation that a 1 way taxi ride to Universal from Disney would be between $30-40. There are 4 of us, so at the most round trip will cost us like $80 total w/tip, so we are still debating if we should do the taxi or the Mears shuttle, because it averages out to about the same cost...

Good to know, I am taking my family down in July and they are already planning on going to Universal for a day or two. This of course may just change their mind after they find out the prices..

What would be the cost of renting a vehicle? Say, two days, just to be able to do and take care of things?

We use to use MEARS and it was really good, and reasonably priced.

We now ALWAYS rent a car...I wont go to Disney without it....the deals are always unbeatable through DOLLAR rent a car.

If we were to hire a 7 seater car for three days it's coming in at £175 pounds sterling (approx $280) with all the tax and insurances, so it may be slightly cheaper to use a taxi and give us the flexibility of spreading out our Universal days rather than having to do them on consecutive days.
