We will be traveling to Disney in early December and I just found out they will be taping the Christmas Parade that is telecast on Christmas morning the weekend that we're there. Has anyone ever been there during the taping?
Is it something we should plan on seeing, or should we avoid MK like the plague on those days due to crowds?? I appreciate any advice!!

The actual dates that I heard for the taping are 12/4-12/6. They tape more than 1 parade then piece the best segments together. I believe they tape the parade that occurs during the day not the one at MVMCP. I am brand new to this forum... what is the "Meet and Greet"?

The weekend of the 4th and 5th there will be quite a few of us Forum members there. Go to the Trip Planning forum and there is a LONG thread about the activites. It is "stickied" so it will always be at the top.

Saturday night there is a dinner at the Prime Time Cafe. Many of us are waiting for information on Sunday activities.

There are even WDW 2004 Meet shirts that you can find linked here !

Welcome !

Parade

I've been there every year they tape and I stay away because I hear the crowds are awful. We even had the Polynesian call us to let us know we were invited to go for it. However, once we forgot it was being taped and we went over there and as soon as we got off the monorail, we went on the ferry and got out of there, you couldn't move in the entrance way!!!

I just got off the phone with Disney CRO and asked the representative about the parade. He said it gets VERY crowded!! They even block off some of the areas while they are taping. He said they tape segments at different times during the day, some very early before the park opens. It is the only night that Spectromagic will be going on during our stay so I'm hoping the craziness slows down at night so we can try to catch it!!

I liked it when it was live. It was a much better show, more fun. It didn't look like a commercial, as it does now.

(It was live at 10 a.m. every Christmas morning until about 1997...)

Anyone know what time they start taping and who is going to be there?

It goes all day man....

But the only up thing about it, is that if you like to see some stars...there is the place.

I too would like to know who's going to be there (famous) because I want to see who's there. I don't know if I'll go to the taping or not because I'll do the whole MK on the night of the 2nd during the MVMCP. Hopefully do Epcot on the 3rd and do who knows what on the 4th.

Christmas parade taping

We were there last year and it was a day that we had breakfast in the castle. When we came out there was a crowd at the end of Main St. in front of the Walt statue. They were the extras being filmed for the crowd shots. Regis and Kelly were sitting in a raised booth on the left as you come up Main St. in front of Casey's corner (hot dog place). You could still walk up Main St. on the on the other side of the street. We headed over to Liberty Square after the breakfast and were in the hat shop there and my husband yelled here comes the parade. We got to see the parade come by that they use for the Christmas party. No music and stuff but the kids enjoyed it and hardly anyone was around so we could take great pictures. If I'm not mistaken is was on a Sunday morning when the MK is least crowded.

Last year, we accidentally went to MK during the taping. We didn't know any better. I will NEVER, EVER do that again. They have the Main Street part of the parade route roped off and full of extras. So not only are all of the normal guests there but there are a ton of extras hanging around waiting to be filmed. And because they film a good piece of the day, certain areas were blocked off as they brought out various floats. All in all it made getting around very cumbersome and before long we gave up. Took the train around to the main street station and got out of there!!!

These posts just reiterate how much better it is to do the parade LIVE on Christmas morning. Done in two hours, and much more realistic in feel. These days it looks absolutely staged and edited to death on TV, and THERE IS a difference. Comes across as a two hour commercial... and it did not seem so blatantly that before!

It's true, it is a MESS on mainstreet when they do tapings and quite boring. There is a lot of standing around and waiting. I had the unfortunate chance of having to work crowd control for the taping and basically the extras just stand there, someone puts a camera on them and they go crazy, the camera goes away and they chill out. Then the floats come out, only a few, and they do the dance routines etc. numerous times. If you do want a chance to see Regis and Kelly and other stars, however, it's a nice opportunity. Last year taping went an extra day because of the snow storm in NY which kept Kelly Rippa grounded so they had to re-shoot scenes with her in them

good luck
