Taking Pics of Food/Meals

Ok, so first I want to say I LOVE all the pictures that come back from everyone's dining experiences at WDW. We're here now, and I was confronted by a situation last night, which I thought I would ask all of you about. We were at Jiko and DH hit his limit with the picture taking of food. He said(in a very kind way), "Please no more food pictures, it's so tacky!" You know, I thought about it and I used to think so too, I just really like having a picture of food. So how do you deal with the tackiness of food picture taking in order to obtain the covetted pics of food? Do you disagree that it can be tacky? Because I'm sort of on the fence, and I LOVE having pics of food!

You're a tourist. Tourists are expected to be tacky.

Oh, come now, is anyone really able to use the word "tacky" at a place where people wear these things? Take the pictures, you're on vacation.

Food photography is an entire business and all some people do. Have you ever looked in a magazine and seen pictures of food and thought 'how tacky?' Plus you're on vacation and at Disney World! Who cares what anyone is thinking. Do what makes you happy!

You take the pictures because it looks delicious and is something you want to remember. Why should it be tacky to take pictures of something that you enjoyed no matter if it's food, a ride or the beach.

By the way: Good point with the hats rsoxguy!:ROFLOL:

I would not do it in V&A, or if I did, I would be subtile about it.

Anywhere else, click away.

Really though, I do try to be quick about it. After all, nobody wants to wait with their food in front of them while you get your shot all perfect.

in WDW I would see no issue. If you're somewhere like a foreign country, then it may look a little weird. No better way to show that you're a tourist than to take pictures of your food :D.

yeah, but lets be honest... no ones pictures of their food are print quality material, nor is the food being presented.

By the same token, very few people's pictures of landscape, shows, parades, or any other 'vacation photographs' are of print quality nor are the subjects being presented.

My boyfriend is the same way about taking food pictures. I don't really care. It's only for that split second of the flash. People are constantly taking pictures of everything in the world, why not the food?

Yes, it's very "tourist-y" to do so but you're in the #1 tourist attraction in the world...go for it!

With as much going on in the Disney that there is, do you think people really care that you're taking a picture of your meal? I probably wouldn't even notice someone doing it in a restaurant because I'm too busy stuffing my face and then thinking about when our next Fastpass is available. I wouldn't sweat it. Those pictures are what gets us through our lull between trips...snap away!

I don't think taking pictures of food is 'tacky' BUT I totally get what you mean: every time I go to snap a picture of my dinner I look around to see if anyone is watching and I get that feeling in my gut like I'm doing something wrong. My friends think I'm nuts when I come home with a camera full of pictures of the food I've eaten on my vacation. It's also a little crazy when you start to really think about it... the food you've just digested is going to live on forever, immortalized in this photograph you've just taken of it. But really, in a place as over the top and touristy as Disney World, why should you care what anyone thinks? You're just having a fun vacation.
