Taking a cruise alone...has anyone done it?

If I hadn't found the Dream Girls cruise thread, I was kicking around the idea of going solo. I've done a solo trip to WDW and enjoyed it, and I really, really wanted to do a cruise.

Although lately I've sailed with a friend or relative, nearly half of my 18 past DCL cruises were solo. Loved it! I'll be cruising with a friend on the 1/25/14 Fantasy, but will be solo on the 11/8/14 Fantasy. BTW - They will assign you to a table number at dinner and unless you request otherwise, you'll be seated with other Guests. They try to match people of approximately the same ages and adults without kids if you are solo, but you can make a request if you have a specific preference. It is also often possible to get to know others pre-cruise via message boards, and perhaps link dining in order to sit with people you at least know from online.

I'll be on the 11/8/14 Fantasy as well. Will not be traveling solo though (my mother and sister will be with me!)

I've taken dozens of cruises by myself over the years but mostly for work with Carnival. I must say that as a single traveler I found it easy to strike-up a conversation with either guests or staff and learned a lot about people and other places. I try to take at least one trip a year by myself.

I have never done a DCL solo cruise but have done 2 Carnival solo cruises. As others have said - I think DCL is likely much more inviting to their solo passengers. Carnival is great but it is very much so a party/family/large group cruise. Even a couple is easily singled out. But I would love to do a DCL solo cruise I just can not afford it. Their cheapest cruise is the equivalent to a balcany suite with longer days on Carnival.

How much more expensive is it to go solo? I'm debating on a 3 or 4 day Bahamas cruise solo.

Edit: I've been to WDW solo numerous times and LOVE it
