3 months before release for the FIRST teaser? No way that's going to happen. This week marks the same time before release as No Way Home's first teaser.
You do realize we're only 2 weeks away for the release of Morbius, right?

It releases April 1st.

Also 3-4 months prior for a trailer is normal for Marvel movies. So yes 3 months would be right in the normal time frame.

Yes, April 1. That is 3 months (minus a week) from Thor's release date. A 3 month window for a first teaser would not only be unprecedented for an MCU film, it would also be very unprecedented for any major blockbuster film. Pre-covid time frame for a first teaser was about 7 or 8 months (6 months for an MCU film). Now it's more like 5-6 months for a teaser.

That's why I am saying this week should be the week and next week at that latest for a normal marketing campaign.

Not entirely true, for example the first trailer for End Game came out in the beginning of December for an mid-April release. That was 3 and half months prior to release.

Another example is Capt America, it was literally almost 4 months to the day from first trailer to release.

So its not unprecedented for trailers to be released 3-4 months prior to release.

Also just because something happened on a previous time frame pre-pandemic, doesn't mean its guaranteed to happen again under the same time frame post-pandemic.

That's why I am saying this week should be the week and next week at that latest for a normal marketing campaign.

Yes it could happen anytime in the next week or two. Or it could happen with Morbius in 2 weeks like I mentioned.

ALSO...

Anyone else getting annoyed at 'fans' demanding trailers?

ADVERTISE TO US! WE NEED YOUR ADVERTISING!!!

And what do the fans do with that advertising? They dissect it down to its molecular level to beat eachother to put up a video that guesses the entire plot of the movie! <oh, spoilers, btw>

It's bad enough that trailers sometimes do give away the whole plot or the best beats of the movie, which are now spoiled. But the fans are adamant that everyone be spoiled.

45 THINGS THAT WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN IN THAT MOVIE!!!

And when the movie comes out and doesn't play out as people guessed at from the trailers, they cry and whine about all the missed opportunities because it didn't follow their incredible plot theory.

IT WOULD'VE BEEN BETTER IF THEY DID THE THING I GUESSED AT!!! AND WHY DIDN'T IT HAPPEN EXACTLY LIKE IT DID IN THE COMICS?!! THIS IS AWFUL!!!

Stop begging for trailers, please.

Um, trailers and teasers......that's just how things are done. Always have, always will.

Anyway, much of the more reasonable (if we can call it that) speculation comes from the idea that MCU may very well lose its November slot without moving something else there. Black Panther 2 is still filming. Even if it finishes this month, it will have less than 8 months for post-production. Considering it will have underwater scenes, that is next to impossible to finish in that timespan. Either they move Thor to that spot (where the last 2 Thor movies were) or the flip BP2 with The Marvels (which will likely have plenty of time).

We'll find out soon enough, that's for sure.

Prior to the MCU, and to a smaller extent social media, nobody really dissected trailers like they do now. Also no one cared when a trailer would be released other than industry watchers. You would go to the movies and see a new trailer and go "Oh that movie is coming out, cool".

So no it hasn't always been this way, that is the point @MisterPenguin is making, its fans that turned things into a 24 hour watch for new trailers.

Not at this level, in which there is an announcement of a *teaser* trailer. Then the teaser trailer. Then the announcement of a trailer. Then a trailer. Then two more cuts of trailers.

And instead of snippets showing what kind of film it is and its setting, we get multiple scenes. Sometimes even the full plot.

And what's new is the *begging* for trailers. We used to moan in the theaters having to sit through multiple trailers to get to the movie, and now people are hounding studios for trailers.

I remember in 2018, the official Captain Marvel was released on Monday, December 3. Then, on Friday, December 7, the teaser for Endgame was dropped.

Could see the same thing happening this week?

A handful of vocal manics on Twitter is not news. And reports of reshoots in an industry in which reshoots are the norm are not indicative of any useful information.

The point of me posting the article was to show again how ridiculous its become about the trailers.

Personally I still think it'll be released next week with Morbius on April 1st.

At this point, the only thing I see is that they are doing some sort of experiment to show demand for a trailer. The fact that this will be the shortest time span between first teaser and release of a blockbuster film may be something part of a strategy to build anticipation. That is IF they are releasing it soon. If what I said is not part of the plan, then the movie is being delayed.

July isn't imperative. They don't need to release a movie in July, but I doubt they want to give up the November spot this year (although Eternals crash and burned in that spot). So, if they feel they HAVE to have a November release, it's either Thor or they move The Marvels up 3 months to November.

The trailer could be attached to Doctor Strange 2 as either a pre-movie trailer, or, as the tag at the end of the movie, just like No Way Home had the Doctor Strange trailer.

Final maybe. DS2 comes out on May 6. However, it has already been announced that Avatar 2 will have its first teaser in front of Strange. Doesn't answer the question about the first teaser though.

Thing is MAYBE they are trying to build hype for it by NOT having a teaser yet. Problem is, nobody cares and hardly anyone outside of die-hard MCU fans know that a new Thor movie is even coming. Having a teaser in April and a trailer in May is pushing it a bit. There should be at least two months between first teaser and final trailer.

Like I said, if not this week, then a delay looks more likely. If not next week, I'd say a delay is almost guaranteed. Even if the movie moves to November (looking more likely each day), there would STILL need to be teaser out in April or May based on past November releases.

First, it has only been rumored that the Avatar 2 trailer will be in front of Dr Strange 2, Disney hasn't actually confirmed it yet.

Second, more than one trailer is usually played in-front of a movie. So they can release BOTH Thor 4 and Avatar 2 trailers in-front of Dr Strange 2 if they want to. There is no rule saying they can't.

Third, given the last 2 years I don't have any doubt that a July release will be a blockbuster.

Long story short, if its delayed then its delayed. But a trailer not being released yet, or being released within a 2-3 months of the release date doesn't mean it'll be delayed.

Marvel and Feige has a lot more knowledge and skill at doing this then some posters on the internet. So I trust they know what they are doing.

Well 2022 is not 2021 nor 2020. Things are different (at least here in the USA). No Way Home and The Batman have shown us that. Heck, so did Shang Chi with its September success.

But showing trailers in front of movies is very antiquated and passe. It's not the way movies are marketed anymore. Trailers aren't used to promote other films.

There's really no reason to deviate from the 4-5 month teaser and the 2-3 month trailer. There's no rule or law, but it's the norm. The pandemic has shortened the timespan for teasers (it was getting crazy with teasers a whole year before release). But full trailers are still pretty much the same.

I'm more curious about how MCU will be shaking up its calendar for this and next year. Even if Thor (hopefully) comes out in July, they will still have to do some shifting after that.
