Here's what I suggest:

For the committee that plans the year-end stuff, I don't think that it's necessary to ban them from E8/S16 because they're planning the awards. I'd say that only the person hosting it should be banned from the year-end competition while the awards host and election coordinator are allowed to play.

One Little Spark...
I actually ran the nomination and voting threads for the awards. LG did the Convo's election stuff.
Ah, sorry for my memory. I didn't bother going to look it up. I guess it was the similarities in time frame that got me mixed up.

I'd still say 3 is a good number (at least to start) They can run a few threads to allow people to toss out ideas and help (like "hey guys, what awards do you think we should have this year?")

And, I think the nomination and voting threads last year that you ran worked perfectly. I don't recall there being any issues with them at all. We had a TON of submissions. The only suggestion I'd have for nominations this year would be...when you nominate, please take the time to post a link to the nominated project/art/post to make it easier for others come voting. Tracking down some of those older projects was a nightmare when all someone said was "The Marvel project from SA S2" as their nomination!

I agree. This is the system for us.
Sam, do you think you could make a list of the key points of the system? I only ask because you did a great job summarizing the idea we had before. It's fine if you don't have time, I can do it.

After we get a list like that, we can put it up for a community vote in another thread in a couple days.

No it's fine...my post was snarky anyways.

I agree that 3 is a good number to start with. I think we should keep the batch of awards...they were a strong batch. Very universal and applicable...maybe expand to have best contest or something.

They did run very smoothly...never any problems. And I completely agree that links would be great! Also make it easy to include pictures of the projects in the awards show video.

As an aside...I've been thinking all year about what we could do for the award show...I've got some big ideas to really make this years show be amazing.

I can totally do it if you guys want. We can keep updating that list as we go forward in the discussion.

2015 Town Hall Constitutional Convention
The Conversationalists
- The Conversationalists would be dissolved in favor of a more community oriented discussion. Replacing it would be two new, constantly changing groups, one would organize the newsletters and the other the end of year contest and awards.

- The End of Session Group would have three members. These members would host the year end contests and Dreamfinder Awards. They would be nominated and selected in the fall and would cease to exist after the award show and end of year contest.

- The Newsletter group would be a group of four or five volunteers that would work on the bimonthly newspaper. Could be a new group every two months.

The Schedule
- The schedule would be dissolved in favor of a more natural and approachable competition rooster.

- A set of 'Contest Guidelines' would be posted in the FAQ Thread. If a contest meets those requirements they will be considered an ICS contest.

- If contests overlap, and concerns or talks necessary will be conducted among the hosts themselves. This would eliminate the need for The Conversationalists.

- In general, anyone can start and host a competition without having to go through the Town Hall or Conversationalists.

- No more tiers.

Point System
- Still undecided. Two possible systems being thrown around. (see posts #444 paragraph 4 pg.23 and #413 pg.21) Both systems would be more simplistic and designed to be easily adapted to any contest.

- It is agreed that the point system is needed to seed out people for the end of year contest.

End of Year Contest and Award Show
- End of Year Contest host will be nominated and elected to host (see The Conversationalists paragraph above for more information).

- The contest will either include the top eight or sixteen people in the points ranking. It has been proposed to allow all people who played at one point in any contest to be included, though many have pointed out the time constraints and difficulties that would create.

- The contest host date will most likely fall in the Winter, though spring and summer dates were previously proposed.

- The Award Show will once again be a video, produced and created by someone elected to the End of Year Group. The Award Show could be renamed.

- The Nomination and Voting threads for the Award Show will be created by a third person elected to the End of Year Group.

So, what -- if anything -- will replace the Elite Eight?

It would be nice to turn it into a March Madness style competition, but the main concern about opening it up to more people is time. So do we shorten some of the rounds? Actually, now that I think about it we can still bring it down to 3 rounds, like so:

Round 1 - Eliminates however many necessary to reduce number of competitors to 16
Round 2 - Compete in 4 groups of 4. One person from each group moves on.
Round 3 - Final 4 proposals are judged, with one winner

I think we should limit it to 16 people. I think that allows enough people to play without too many feeling left out. Also...If the contest started the last week of November it could be stretched out for four rounds.

With that the rounds would look like this:

Round 1 - Compete in 4 groups of 4. Two people from each group moves on.
Round 2 - Compete in 2 groups of 4. Two people from each group moves on.
Round 3 - Final 4 proposals are judged. Two people move on.
Round 4 - Final 2 proposals are judge, with one winner.

If we did that, we could have:

Round 1 - Sweet Sixteen
Round 2 - Elite Eight
Round 3 - Fantastic Four
Round 4 - ????

2015 Town Hall Constitutional Convention

I modified it some

The Conversationalists
- The Conversationalists would be dissolved as an organizational body.

Newsletters

- Newsletters will go out monthly, and will be posted in the Town Hall thread, and will be run by a group of volunteers who sign up after the posting of the previous newsletter on a rotating schedule to be determined

End of Year Contest

- No longer Elite Eight? Maybe Sweet 16? Who knows.

Dreamfinder Awards
- In late October, volunteer self-nominations and elections will be held to determine 3 members who will be responsible for the end of year competition, the awards ceremony and the awards nomination/voting threads

The Schedule
- There is no schedule. You can start a comp whenever you wish, and it can run as long as you wish and have as many people as you wish. Hosts define their own schedules.

- In the event of a comp overlap, the hosts of the two (or more) comps are to work out any disputes or conflicts amongst themselves in a PM until parity is reached.

The FAQ Thread
- The few rules, including definitions of terms and the few requirements to be a "rated comp" will be listed in a FAQ thread under the ICS sticky that already exists.

Point System
- This just needs to be resolved, or eliminated

Any chance of ending the end of year comp before Christmas?

As was brought up before we do have to consider thay it's a really busy time of year.

I would suggest having team challenges and having one of those teams be the winner in the end

That makes no sense if we're trying to find the best imagineer of the year.

I say we have like a 1st challenge that's like 48 hours, and the judges can just give brief reviews to move it along quickly. Then the next 2 rounds can be longer. I am still not a huge fan of habits groups in the finale at all though. I think we should just create a big bracket based on who everyone wants to see play each other in a vote or just based on points

Why do we have to do that though?

If 3 people sit out to run the comp, how do you know for sure who is the best? It's just about fun. And maybe you could just have an award for best imagineer instead of a comp to decide it.

I sort of like having one person win, that's how all of the comps end anyways whether they are teams or not
