Tables in Wonderland question

I'm pretty sure I asked these questions last spring when I was initially pondering whether to do APs and TiW card, but I can't remember the answer now, so I'll ask again now that we're getting closer to our trip dates.

I decided to get APs for our 2012 trip and our 2013 trip and use the TiW card. The Disney portion of this year's trip is April 12-22. April 12 will just be DTD and miscellaneous stuff before hitting the parks on April 13. Right now, if we do a TS meal at all that day, it will be T-Rex for lunch and probably just the food court, or someplace off property for supper.

Next year's trip is tentatively set for April 2-12. Possibly 3-13.

So here are my questions:

As you can tell, the arrival date of our 2012 trip is exactly one year from the departure date of our 2013 trip. So exactly how long is a TiW card good for? 365 days or 366 days? Easter is March 31 next year and we like to be in church for Easter Sunday. So we really don't have much leeway to adjust our dates and keep all of our dining within the life of the TiW card.

When does the clock start ticking? When I first purchase it, or when I first use it?

Is it good at T-Rex, since it is not a Disney run restaraunt? If I don't use it at T-Rex, then I won't need it on April 12 at all, and can wait until April 13 to get it.

Where do I go to get this card? Can I get it at my hotel, somewhere at DTD, or is it only available at the parks?

I personally don't have experience with this yet as I am in your boat, but I can tell you that from what I have researched the card is good for 366 days, starting the day it is purchased. I don't know if you can purchase one anywhere in DTD, but I'm pretty sure that Guest Services in the park could sell it to you as soon as you get there for your 2012 trip. If any of this is incorrect I apologize

It is good for at least 366 days.

The clock starts when you buy them.

It is not accepted at T-Rex or Rainforest.

You can buy it at any guest services at DTD or the parks. To my knowledge you can not buy it at the resorts.

The card is good for 13 months. Your best bet is to pick it up at Guest relations the first day you are there. And it is not valid at T-Rex unless that has changed in the last month.

you can get it at guest services at DTD. that's what i did when i got new APs in august.

not sure if you can use TIW at t-rex, but you can use your AP for 10% off there.

and yes. good 366 days from day of sale.

in my experience, it's well worth the money.

It is good until the END of the 13th month. Got mine 8/20/11 and it expires on 9/30/12. :D

Ah, that's awesome to know! Thank you. So I don't need to worry about which day to get it since it will be good for our entire trip next year no matter what. We like to do Downtown Disney on our arrival day, so I can just stop by guest relations while we are there.

Just one more question...where is guest relations at DTD? The past couple trips, we have parked over by where La Nouba is but pretty much go straight to the part where T-Rex is at and eat there, do the Christmas shop, toy store, etc. Is Guest Relations in that section or on the other end?

There are two:

In the Marketplace it's next to Team Mickey.

On the West Side it's at DisneyQuest. (It was relocated when Characters in Flight was added and took over the old spot)

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I figured it's better than starting another. Once I obtain my TIW card, how do I go about using it at the restaurants? I mean, do I tell the server up front that I have one or do I just give them the card when I ask for the check? I hate looking like an idiot when I'm new to using something

I bought my TIW card on 11/11/11 and it is good until 12/31/12 so it's good for longer than the 365 days. I think it all depends when during the month you buy it. Seems like it's good til the end of the 13th month (I think someone above mentioned this as well)

We've mentioned it at the beginning of the meal and we've also mentioned it before they bring us our check. I don't think it matters when you tell them as long as you mention it before they run the check. At Les Chefs, she brought our check over automatically before we told her we had it. She then had to take the card and go re-run the check with the discount applied.

good call on the end of the month thing. i stand corrected. i didn't know that, so i'm psyched it's good through my august trip!

agreed on when to tell. usually when the server asks if we're on the dining plan, i usually say no, but we have TIW. then it saves them re-running the check. but it doesn't seem to matter when.

in fact sometimes i try not to say, since the gratuity is built in. i don't want a server phoning it in because they know what percent tip they're getting. if they do, the joke is usually on them, because when i use TIW, i let the service dictate the tip anyway. if the service is fair, i just leave the assigned percentage. but when it's excellent, i tip extra on top of what's already given.

I agree with you there. We ate at Via Napoli in November and told our waiter we had the TIW card at the beginning of the meal. It was the first time we used it so I was nervous our service would be less than stellar but our waiter (David) was AMAZING! Best service we had all trip!

Also, idk if many people know this, if your service really is bad, you can get a manager to adjust the tip for you if you dont feel it was worthy of the 18%. I'm usually a 20% tipper anyways so 18% is fine with me but if the service is bad, it's good to know that option is there to have someone adjust it. I know it kind of seems like a hassel and all to have someone adjust it but I think it might make a point to the server if you go through all that and then leave them a 13-15% tip that even though it's included at 18% they still need to treat you as anyone who's tip isn't included.

I tell the hostess when we check in. I believe it's one of the "options" in the system as we have seen it printed on the little ticket they leave at the table when you are seated. Otherwise I usually told them if/when they asked if we were on the dining plan. Worst case we had them reprint the bill with the discount if they'd already brought it.

when we bought our TIW on july 21, it stated it expired august 31 of the next year, so it was valid for 13 plus months. we will get another this summer, so we will see what the dates are then.

TiW is good for a year from the end of the month after you buy it.

If you buy in January any day from the first to the thirty-first, it will expire at the end of February the following year. I bought my current card on 1 October last year, it expires 30 November this year.
