T Rex Restaurant still coming?

I'm new posting here and was unsure of starting a thread, so please be kind.

I've searched for recent news about Landry's T Rex restaurant that is supposedly coming to Downtown Disney and came up with nothing.

Has anyone seen any trace of this restaurant being under construction or heard any news? I checked Landry's website and all it says is "Coming Soon to Downtown Disney"

They keep saying it's coming but it's surely slow in coming.... It was first announced like a year and a half ago and there is yet to be any signs of construction.

Yes I can 200% confirm that it is coming soon, and being worked on right now. More then that........ in due time :)

We have one here in Kansas City and I gotta say I was underwhelmed.
I think it pales compared to Rainforest (and I don't even like that very much.)

I hope WDW avoids the trap of being in bed with a few number of restauranteurs. At DDA, Patina Group controls all our restaurants except for HoB (yawn) and ESPN. IMO, that results in a bland restauranting experience. I'm really nervous about them taking over Italy. Naples is fine but exactly what you'd expect from an American restaurant chain. It's better than your average Olive Garden, about on par with Maggiano's, but certainly no Il Fornario or someplace that actually has character. So when I read about Landry's and Patina getting a stronger foothold at WDW, it concerns me.

I'm a little worried for Disney once GardenWalk opens. GardenWalk will have chains, but there will be tons of variety. It won't be one chain controlling everything and the Vegas-style club sounds like it could be interesting. I think, from a restaurant point of view, GardenWalk could give Disney a run for its money.

From descriptions, it sounds like TRex is replacing Portobello's?? I hope not, I actually do like Portobello's. Unless TRex is going into that curve part of the parking lot between McD's and Raglan Road, I can't imagine where else it would go??

Rumor has it that the McD's in DTD contract is running out next year and disney may not option to keep it. possible location.

as for my source, my dad is a manager for Ghiradelli's and has met the management for McD's.

also, Ghirradelli's is gearing up for some renovations as well.

OMG, **please** let this be true!!! :sohappy:

That McD's in AK Resort area also sickens me.

As soon as Disney installs their own drive-thru 24 hour food stop, they can get rid of the McD's near All Stars.

That place has come in handy hundreds of times for me - from needing a powerade at 10pm to grabbing a meal at 4am.

If you do a search for T-rex, I posted an image a LONG while back about it's location. Also, if you're a CM, you can go into the P.I. Admin Trailer and see the arial view of where it will be. It's going to be located in the round-a-bout where Shades of Green Busses pull in; in front of Portobello and Raglan Road's back-side. In May and June they did a little bit of foundation work in the river/creek, and of course made all of the changes to the parking lot in that area to facilitate the new traffic flow.

I hope they don't. It's kinda tacky, and I think that DIsney could do better on their own, unless McD's is really providing some large sponsorship of the AK that I am unaware of.

Doesn't McD's sponsor both Dinosaur and the Nemo theater? Not 100%, but I seem to remember the golden arches at both of them.

There is no FF at Crossroads (or in the general area) still open at those times? Sorry, but that McD's is just an eyesore.

ImaYoyo: Yeah, McD's sponsors Dinosaur, don't remember about Nemo. I'm fine if they wanna pay Disney money for attraction sponsorship, and even fine with fry carts, but when WDW starts looking like any old city with gas stations and McD's, that's when I have issues.

Call me crazy, but the McD's in DTD and near the All-Stars don't bother me in the least. Let's face it, Disney is a place that families go on vacation, and kids like McDonalds even if adults don't. On our trip two weeks ago, my 4-year-old was very happy with all of the variety in the Disney restaurants, but at one point, he asked us very sweetly for a good old Happy Meal. He just wanted something familiar and known after all of the new and different stuff. So we got him a Happy Meal, and he was....well....happy, which is what he should be on vacation at WDW.

As for T-Rex, I was skeptical at the start, and will remain so until it opens and I see whether it's worth anything. Seems like another Planet Hollywood/Rainforest Cafe type thing, which I would have thought would be better situated elsewhere on property, rather than at DTD near the other two. Same food/different theme -- shrug. As for restaurant groups, so far I think WDW has lots of different groups involved. Patina, Landry's, Levy, Wolfgang Puck, and others. So I'm not as worried, yet.

I live in KC and have been to the T-Rex a couple of times. It was almost a year behind schedule and the place cost a ton of money to build. It looks really nice, but really no different than the Rainforest. The food is the same as the Rainforest, they just give the food clever new names. I think that Disney fans will be disappointed. If I ever figure out how to post pics, I will post some of the T-Rex.

But where else at WDW can you feed a family of 4 for under $30???

That McDonald's at DTD is essential for many families' visits to WDW, whether because they have picky youngsters who only eat McD's burgers and fries with orange drink, or simply because they are on a budget.
That helps explain its popularity. McDonald's is as much a culutural icon as WDW and they actually go quite well together!

I'm not in either of the groups mentioned above, but still venture in there at least once or twice per trip for something or other that just sounds good at the time!

P.S. McFlurries RULE!

Raglan Road QSR (Cookes of Dublin), Earl of Sandwich (AND have left-overs to take home), Bongos outside window (man, those croquetas and papas rellenas are good)... there's a few at DTD to start with.

And I say again, if you really need Fast Food, it's just a short walk / drive away from DTD at Crossroads. Go there. McD's just kills the mood of being at WDW every time I see it. The magic is supposed to be all-enveloping at WDW. When I pass one of the McD's, I feel like, "OK, the magic is in the Parks, and I'm just driving around like I would any other city." There's nothing magical about a McD's drive-thru. I can go ANYWHERE for that.

But if the McD's contract does expire, I'm all for converting them to a Mickey's Kitchen :-)

Thanks for the information!

I would rather see something else go into DTD, especially since there are already 2 RFC's at WDW already. The dinosaur theme sounds interesting and I'm sure it'll go over big with the kids (what little boys don't love dinosaurs?), but imo it should replace the RFC at DTD not be in addition to it. How many restaurants with the same menu can you have in one location?

I hate to see McD's there too. We've stopped at the one by AKL more than once. Not much else available late at night. That's really my only complaint about WDW resorts....lack of 24hr room service.

People get stabbed in Crossroads :(

And have you driven through there? It's a nightmare.

LOL

We got stuck at the light between the 7-11 decked out to look like a Kwik-E-Mart for the Simpsons Movie and another gas station for upwards of 15 minutes trying to make a right turn back to Downtown Disney. And it was 3pm on a Saturday. :lookaroun
