T Rex Restaurant still coming?

I still get a lot of the Downtown Disney emails, so as I see things that I'm able to/allowed to post pertaining to the progress, I'll do so.

I'm posting my two cents since there seems to be a lot of haggling and I had a strong opinion until I read this thread.

I was all for yanking out the McD's as I can't stand them, primarily for business reasons. I also found it to be "too common", not very "Magical", etc. However, after reading the thread and all your postings, there are enough good points for me to say this; though I dislike McD's, it does serve a good purpose by providing a very predictable dining experience within a determined budget. So, for those McD's fans or those who find it convenient, handy for the little ones, cost effective, what ever, I just wanted to say your arguments have won me over. I'll quit knocking it.

I thought it was important for a few posts to be made showing that opinions can be swayed based on such open discussion.

However, to throw another opinion in the ring....the points made earlier about the other dining locations was not that one could get a hamburger, fries, and ice cream for the same price for 4, but was in keeping with the original point that a family of 4 could be fed at other locations for the same price as at McD's. Also, the point that no one else serves such a "predictable" meal is extremely true and I acknowledge, very important for families in general at various times. So, from what I've read in this thread, everyone has made a valuable point along the way.

All that said, I'll stick with what works for us. Based on budget, variety, and my family's taste preferences, we 'll stick with the other options (Bongos, Earl of Sandwich, Wolfgang Express, etc.). But isn't this what makes WDW great? They have extremely diverse options across the entire property. In other words, something for everyone. I know that ensures we have a great time, which is what it's all about. :sohappy:

(snip)

Nicely put. I still *personally* feel that there are cost-effective alternatives to McD's if one only bothers to look and that a McD's drive-thru on property cheapens the WDW experience, BUT... as you say... this just happens to be my personal opinion and I recognize your mileage may vary.

I do get the "comfort food" argument. Sometimes when I'm in Europe, there is at least one point on the trip where I will eat at a McD's, Pizza Hut, or what have you. I rarely eat them here, but it's just nice to have something familiar. But that's when I'm in Europe/Asia, not the U.S.

So just to clarify... the area circled in red is where T-Rex is going?

Yes, but will take up more room into that courtyard area by Fultons and Portobello, as well as take up a bit of the river/creek in front of raglan road.

I hope WDW avoids the trap of being in bed with a few number of restauranteurs. ....... I'm really nervous about them taking over Italy. Naples is fine but exactly what you'd expect from an American restaurant chain. It's better than your average Olive Garden, about on par with Maggiano's, but certainly no Il Fornario or someplace that actually has character. So when I read about Landry's and Patina getting a stronger foothold at WDW, it concerns me.

I must agree with you on this one, I am really going to miss Alfredo's. :(
