I’m not sure Disney has any say.

I understand that the Swan and Dolphin are maybe architecturally interesting/maybe well regarded but I never liked them as a teenager and I still do not like them at all. I don't like this new thing either as it doesn't "fit" but that's like saying that you don't prefer putting a giraffe in the zebra habitat while there have already been musk ox in there for years.

I disagree with that entirely. Sapphire at least has a little character and is quite lovely, especially at night. It's no comparison to this. Even Riviera has more than this thing.

Photo update as of Thursday, August 27, 2020. Here are a couple of views of the Swan and Dolphin Tower Expansion at The Cove and how it appears on the existing Disney landscape and horizon.

Finally, here is a close-up of the roof top observation area. The main roof top observation areas is at a 45 degree angle to offer good views of both Epcot and Magic Kingdom fireworks shows.

I suppose we'll get used to it. It looks pretty bad looming over the background. It reminds me a LOT of what Disney was trying to get away from with Disneyland and the hotels looming in the distance. - but sight lines no longer matter. Profit does.

Just think, the guy who came up with the name "Swan Reserve" probably makes more money than anyone who will ever stay at that hotel.

Especially since Marriott seems to like their brands which indicate the level of amenities, which made "The Cove" also an outlier with regard to branding.

So, maybe this is Marriott's way of saying that this new tower is Swan-level plus up one step: "Reserve"??

After all, it is supposed to be mostly executive suites.

I'm waiting for the ruined view as seen from WS in EPCOT. (Is there any good view left? It seems the only good view remaining of something outside of WS is ToT as seen behind Morocco. At least there was an intention to make it blend in.)

As a huge fan of the Swan and Dolphin, that new name for the cove is awful. That being said...the new resort is looking better and better.
