Jeff has said that they liked to have the theme of the show be a part of the finale and that’s why the battle back happens when five are left.

I agree with you. It’s too late in the game.
I remember that interview. In that same interview, he questioned it, too, and said maybe they don't need that to happen. I'm not sure if that was real talk or just words... probably the latter. But I do like how he told Rob Cesternino in the premiere interviews that EoE will not be returning for a while due to fan feedback.

Assuming we continue Survivor at some point, my guess is seasons 41 and 42 are newbie seasons. 43 and 44 will feature one newbie season and one Second Chance season. My hope is that through at least those 4 seasons we wouldn't see EoE return.

I also wouldn't mind another Blood vs Water season with returning players, but I don't think that's likely to happen again if we haven't seen it by now.

Dominic Abate said that there was an iteration of season 40 where he would of been back, but they decided to do the all winner season. So I think you’re right that second chance season is coming soon, or a rivals season.

Jeff has mentioned another Second Chances season multiple times over the past couple seasons. Before this season or last, one interview listed multiple theme ideas, and Jeff had to answer how likely they were to do them. Heroes vs Villains was pretty much a no - he said they are past that in Survivor. I don't remember the other themes they listed, some were new ones, but he was pretty high on Second Chance. So that's why I feel like they are going to go with that. It will have been 10+ seasons since the last one, which offers interesting pools of older and more recent players.

Second Chances would be great. Off the top of my head I’d like to see:

Dominic, Kellen, and Bradley from ghost island

christian, Davey, Gabby, Carl, Natalie, and Angelina from David v Goliath

Rick Devens and Wardog from EoE

Old schooler Shane Powers

There's too many I'd like to see to be able to fit in one cast. One that I think we need is Natalie Bolton from Micronesia. It's insane that she hasn't been back since. She almost made the cut for Heroes vs Villains. She traveled to Samoa and had cast photos taken and everything. We need to see her back!

Also, a recent player would be Victoria from EoE. She was a quiet edit, but based on interviews it seems likely she would have won had the EoE twist not been a thing. I think the EoE cast was very strong. In addition to Victoria, I'd like to see Ron, Wardog, and Lauren return. I wasn't a fan of Devens.

Another underrated player we need to see back is Cydney Gillon from Kaoh Rong. She played a very strong game.

Terry Dietz needs to come back for a second chance season (technically 3rd chance) but his 2nd exit wasn't fair at all.

Tomorrow night is the end of season 40, and possibly Survivor for awhile. Hopefully, we’ll get some info on the next season. A few months ago the producers announced that taping of season 41 had been pushed back and would start taping at the end of May. Probably doubtful, but we can hope.

It’s been a lot of fun talking Survivor with all of you. Enjoy the finale.

They've now suspended production indefinitely. They didn't publicly say that, but they sent the entire crew home until further notice.

I am sad that this will be the final episode for a while. If we don't have a season in the fall, it will be interesting to see if Survivor does/is allowed to do anything with that time. Could they re-air a season like Borneo? Could the do live interviews or recaps of historic events? I think it might be fun for Rob Cesternino to do one of his live podcasts during that time slot. Obviously those ideas would probably be enjoyed much more by the hardcore fans, and the general public wouldn't tune in as much. But if now shows are being produced, they need to fill the time slot with something.

Rob did have the idea to do Survivor: Wild West. Tape season 41 in the USA and base it in an old western ghost town. Interesting idea.

I heard he had that idea, but I haven't gotten that far in the podcast yet. I've been watching it today, and I was actually just watching part of it now. But the rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

Is this Survivor finale bittersweet for anyone else? While I don't currently have it in my top 5 seasons, it's going to be sad to see the winners off our screens. Even if it's lost its nostalgia factor. But the biggest reason it's sad is because we don't know when we're getting Survivor again. But it's also exciting because it's the finale of Winners at War! We've been waiting for this for so long!

Yeah, it's been a solid season and likely the last this year. It's been fun just to have this culmination of a show I've been watching for 20 years, since day one, when it quickly became one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of all time.

It will be interesting to see if the landing is satisfying.

A Tony win will please everyone, particularly casual viewers.

Personally, I feel a Tony win would be impressive but I'll be disappointed if no one makes the move to take him out.

If an Edge returnee wins, will all of the season's goodwill evaporate in an instant?

For me, personally, I am a #NeverEdger (a term that was coined on Twitter... possibly by Josh Wigler), so I wouldn't want anyone from the Edge to win. I don't think the uproar from fans would be as loud as the first time, though, because we already know these players. But as much as I love some of these players, I can't get on board with them winning. I think the most likely person to come back is Natalie. Follow by Tyson. I don't think it will be anyone else, but my gut tells me there's a very small chance Jeremy does.

My ideal finish would be Michele winning. I think if Tony is taken out, that could happen. But the only person I see taking him out is the person from the Edge. That, too, would sting bad. Tony has played an amazing game, and he does not deserve it to be blown up by someone coming back into the game.

Here's my order of how I think the season finishes:

1. Tony wins
2. The Edge returnee wins (I think this is more likely if Natalie returns than anyone else.)
3. Michele wins (Though I could see it, I feel like this is unlikely. I think Michele will be the "fallen angel" that goes out at 4 or 5.)

I think Sarah is worthy of a win, but I don't think she will. If she gets to the end, I think she would be beaten by Tony or the Edge returnee. That's just my gut feeling.

I don't think Ben or Denise have a shot at winning. They could both be no-vote finalists, though.

Tony's best move might be that he's kept the margins close, in terms of alliance numbers. By not allowing the game to progress to a 5-2 showdown or similar, he's ensured that the people he's working with stay with him. I previously observed that anyone trying to make a move last week would have allowed the returnee/Nick/Michele to take control, so no one flipped.

As I recall, a few weeks back he went against Sarah to keep those close numbers, and had to make nice, but he pulled it off. She needs to flip on Tony to stand a change of winning, but he's made it so the opportunity for her to do so is a very narrow window, and it might be what allows him to make it to the end.

I think Tony has also played it well so that the moves look like his, rather than Sarah's. I know Sarah is a good player, and a deserving winner, but I think the jury might feel like Sarah was a tad of a coattail rider. Not a goat by any means, but that she followed Tony. I don't believe that to be true, but it's a possibility that they might. My guess is every person voted off is going to the Edge and saying that "Tony did this or that", rather than "Sarah pulled off this".

But the biggest thing Tony has going for him... he has not received a single vote despite winning 3 immunities, playing one of the best games ever in Cagayan, revealing to everyone that he has an idol. Not even an attempt at writing his name down. That is incredible.
