Survivor: Palau

So, is anyone watching this 97th installment of Survivor? I have to admit to still loving this game. What with all the strategizin', lyin', and backstabbin', seriously, what's not to love? Highlights of episode 1:
  • Where did they find Wanda? You know, the woman who was on the boat singing some horrible song about being a Survivor? How did she pass the psych test?
  • As usual, the setting is beautiful. Man, that water is clear.
  • Sad Tattoo Lady really needs to take it easy. You're not the "outsider" on this show unless you allow yourself to be.
  • I don't have any favorites at this point, but I can say unequivocally that Kim and Jennifer are easy on the eyes.
  • It's good to see Jeff Probst as host. Especially when he called the losing team out on their strategy of hauling everything except the flint during the challenge.
Finally, I liked watching the winning team row their boat during the challenge. The guy in back (Ian, I think) actually seemed to know how to steer the boat. His team may be older, but they appear to be smarter.

Yeah, we love the show still too. Wanda....what can we say? How she ever made it to the final 20 people is beyond me. But, have we seen the last of her and the other loser?

Girls are definitely lookers this time...

Ian struck me as a dork when the show first started, but I think he's gonna turn out okay. Look for him to go far.

Hey Hey! Some of the guys aren't bad looking on the show either!
yes, I'm hooked too. Have been since I first watched (the end of the first one.) It's my favorite show. Can't wait until Thursday!
I agree about Wanda.........as soon as she started singing on that boat, I said "She's gone first."
I agree about the sad tatoo lady. She won't last long with her down and out attitude.

I'm still watching too. Thursday is my "TV Nite" :D

The dude that was sitting on the back of the outrigger is a dolphin trainer, isnt he? So he's probably fairly adept at being in the water.

I agree with GenX: Sad Tat girl is going to make herself an easy target if she continues to consider herself an outsider because she was picked last.

Speaking of picking...what did you all think of that whole little school yard exercise of choosing up sides? I thought it was faily cruddy that they made these folks bond with each other over building the shelter and finding the water and then *POOF* choose up sides but you have to ditch 2 of you. Judging from the reactions, they were a bit blindsided by this as well.

And finally...anyone else giggle just a bit when the victorious teams outrigger flipped? :lookaroun

I like it when they mix the game up and throw something unexpected into the mix. Keeps things fresh and puts twists on the game that the players didn't anticipate and has them scrambling. This is why I don't think we've the last of Wanda the Warbler and the other guy (who I was stunned that he wasn't picked).

Yes, Survivor is still great entertainment in my book. I will not miss it. This season has started off great, which is good considering last season was the first one I never watched all the way through b/c I did not like it one bit!

Still hooked on Survivor after all the seasons and still taping them as I have for all of them as well. The place is beautiful and should be a great season!

The older tribe beat the younger tribe in another Immunity Challenge, again by playing smarter. Having two people go down simultaneously made it easier to get the chest in motion. Once in motion, Tom, who must be very strong, kept it moving. It's interesting how they have outsmarted the other team twice in what looked at the outset like pure physical challenges.

Here's a quick recap:

1. The Young team seemed happy the bossy Jolanda got the boot. Amber and Boston Rob ... I mean Kim and Jeff - snuggled.
2. The Old team, particularly Janu, was a little freaked out by the rats running around the camp at night.
3. The Young team won the reward challenge for flint and fishing gear. The challenge was one of these obstacle/balance contests where you have to retrieve 10 flags. The kicker was that along the way, two members of the opposing team had sandbags on swings that they flung at you. Angie (formerly the Sad Tattoo Lady and now the Pixilated Princess) kicked butt at this particular challenge in retrieving flags.
4. With the fishing equipment, two of the Young guys (maybe Jeff and Bobby Jon?) went fishing and caught several little fish and a large clam. Ashlee inexplicably refused to eat.
5. Ian managed to find the chest with the Old team's flint. He was able to tie a rope around it, and from the boat, they pulled it up. Both teams now have fire.
6. At the Immunity Challenge, the teams had to swim down and pull a chest 50 feet, open it, grab the 8 canteens, then arrange the canteens to spell "Immunity" in Morse code (the canteens had Morse code letters imprinted on them). The Old team went down in pairs and just destroyed the Youngsters. Kim never tried to help pull the chest for the Young team, but it wouldn't have mattered if she tried. Immunity: Old team.
7. The Youngsters schemed to vote off Ashlee for being weak and Kim for not helping during the Immunity Challenge and to try to break her flirty alliance with Jeff.
8. Ultimately, the votes almost all went to Ashlee. In her final words, Ashlee didn't seem that upset about leaving.

Next week: People are getting on each other's nerves. What a shocker!

Agreed! That was interesting to see!!!!

Now I know it's just the 2nd episode and I barely know Kim, but I was appalled that she didn't even ATTEMPT to help her team!!! :veryconfu

Tom is a NYC firefighter and odds are hes in great condition. Ian is a dolphin trainer, so hes going to be great in water challenges.

Perhaps it would be smart to ride Toms strength and Ians water abilities thruout the team challenges, when they will be useful to win immunity for the tribe. But once its all for individual rewards and immunity, then they will be a threat...

I was really glad to see Angie, the Tattoo girl, show her strengths. I think she realized she better show them something or she would be going home next. She seemed to be a strong competitor too, once she got that fire inside of her stirred up. Remember her buddy on the first show Coby, who was going to align with her but didn't choose her for his team? What do you all think of him?

I saw Ashlee on CBS Morning News yesterday. She bacially said she wanted off and was done playing the game. She was raised in a loving and caring family and friends type of world and the scheming and positioning got to her and she didn't want to deal with it.

I think Coby is a horrible person and annoying and not pleasant to look at. But those manipulatos win the game. But I think too many are aware of his manipulations and he does not have a real strong hold on his team or amoung the group. How horrible did he look in that pink skirt that he wears. Ughh.

I like Angie, and am glad that she is athletic and rocked on that mission. She, too, could benefit froma change of clothes. That bottom is just too stringy for me. But I do like her and am glad she got to prove herself, and am even more glad that team members verbalized that to her and realized she was a strong competitor. That was needed.

I'm so happy this season is strong (we all like it here at school) especillly when compared to the boredom that was Vanuatu which we gave up on. And this location is beautiful.

Strongest bets to win as of right now.

Stephanie and Angie. Period.

Tom is great leader character, however he puts himself out in the open too much to last too long. The steelworker is going to say something stupid and get ousted. Those four are the strongest players, and are playing smart. Nobody else 'seems' (you can never be too confident with Mark Burnett) strong or smart enough to have a chance against them. However, my money right now is on Stephanie.

(And I wonder how she's doin'... :D)

I like Stephanie too, and find myself rooting for her the most.

She lives right over the bridge from me, and I like rooting for a home town girl, haha.

And remember Reality TV mavens, the newest season of The Amazing Race premieres this Tues at 9 with Amber and Rob of Survivor fame. And not being able to manipulate and ally on this competition, they may have a problem.
