The stores along Sunset Blvd - Once Upon a Time, Mouse About Town, and Sunset Club Couture reopened yesterday after an extensive refurbishment. Opening much earlier than expected, the previous three separate stores have now been combined into one large location. As well as receiving all new decor and flooring, new clothing merchandise is available.

Crap. I hate when they do that. Takes the individuality completely away.
Boooooooo.....

Agree wholeheartedly. The suits at Marketing are so incredibly myopic. They have destroyed most of what made Main Street a unique "land" at MK and are now extending this philosophy to other places. I don't know about other people, but having a generic Disney shop in a place like Main Street or Sunset Blvd makes me less likely to part with my cash than a unique shop themed to its setting.

Did I miss something in Steve's post? It says new decor and new clothing merch. I don't see anything that says "generic Disney" or lacking individuality. It might be so, but the post doesn't say that.

I'm all for jumping on the negativity bandwagon [actually, not so much, I love WDW and am very tolerant] when it's warranted, but at least let's find out what was the end result before piling on...

I am on the bandwagon also already. I hate when they do that, those shops were always may fav to walk through but now they sound just like any other Disney park shop....or should I say MEGA SHOP!

It's the part about taking three indivudual shops, each with their own theme and individuality, and (on the inside) turning them into one big store. Like what has happened on Main St. West. Hate that.

were they combined into one big shop or are they merely 3 separate shops linked up on the inside? That's a very important distinction. If they are 3 different shops linked together by connecting passageways, that's just more convenient to the guests. If it is yet another Emporium--one big shop with nothing unique--then they have done guests a disservice. Pictures would help.

I was basing it on this quote from Steve's post:
"the previous three separate stores have now been combined into one large location."

Ditto on the loss of individuality!

...anyone have pics of the new clothing merch?
I may have to bribe one of you locals to get me a little something.

($$$$$$!)

Well at least there is a shortcut past the crowds like Main Street. Now DHS has it's own version of the one store, many facades shopping location. Or is it locations? I'm confused.

Just to clarify.

It is a single large store, but there are departments, similar to a small MK Emporium. The mens section is considerably smaller than it used to be, as is the watch section. However, it all looks good, granite counters, lots of wood moulding around, all new detailed tile floor.

The majority of the merchandise is girls/womens clothing. A lot of it is unique to that location (at the moment).

We call this Walmarting.

It's taking what was special and unique and making it homogenized and generic.

Three shops become one. How magical.

And I am sure the merchandise mix will be so different from every other shop in that park and on property in general.

Pins, plush, princesses, pirates ... (the four p's) and toss in some Hannah Montanta, HSM and Jonas Bros crap ... and the generic WDW logo merchandise of the minute (Four Parks: One World).

I wonder how many people even recall when shopping was a special part of a WDW visit ... when you had to seek out and find a treasure.

Oh well, at least moves like these save me money!

I have to admit I much prefer the individual cozy feel of seperate stores with unique merchandise. To me what they have done to Main Street has made it lose it's small town feel. Same applys in this situation. I don't think we had the mall feeling so much in the Hollywood of the 40's. I just feel Disney is loosing it's individualality going in this direction. However that is just my opinion.

It seems that disney keeps getting rid of all of the men's specific sections. I don't know about everyone else but I am not a fan of the generic t-shirt lines. The last time I looked for a shirt at MK I couldn't figure out if they were for men or women, so I didn't buy anything. In fact I think I ended up buying a shirt from one of the men's sections in DHS, guess that won't happen at those stores anymore.

Just another cost savings technique. Instead of having 3 people work in three shops, now they can have 7 run all 3, not exacxt numbers, but an example. I am on the wagon of not liking it. Just cheapens the feel.
