Summertime Footwear???

Okay, y'all. I've done WDW in January, February, and December. Next trip is May. Normally we do comfy Nikes for footwear. This past trip we discovered the not-so-attractive-but-miraculously-comfy crocs. I hate the feel of the crocs without socks. I want to find some footwear that will be practical but cooler if possible. I was thinking of getting some good Teva sandals. I'm curious if the croc-flops are an option. I would never dream of trying to make it in standard flip-flops for lack of support. Also, on our first trip I wore slip-on leather sandals for 1 day and the tops of my feet were incredibly sore from flexing with each step to keep them from slipping off. Hence, I am hesitant to try anything without a strap around the back of the foot to hold it on. What have you all found if anything? I never would've believed the difference the Disney crocs can make but I took the advice of many here and tried them. I never ever woulda thunk it but they were more comfortable than my Nikes!

Thanks for your help! This forum soooo rocks!

Keens are a great sandal to wear in the summer time, we went two years ago in May and my Brother and his girlfriend did nothing but rave about them. They are a versitile sandal that can also be used as a water shoe so you wont have to worry about how they will do in the rain.

My personal opinion I have always wore Nike Shox, they are light and comfortable enough to wear all day. Either one would be a great choice!

P.S. Maybe I'll see you around, as I will also be visiting the world this May!

Up until last year I would never visit the parks without a Nike or New Balance tennis shoe. However, I bought a Skecher - Bikers style sandal last year and wore them to the parks. I loved them. I have very flat feet so I normally would need a good support tennis shoe, but I actually did very well. I bought these sandals in every color and style they had! They are on the Skecher site if you want to take a look.

I could never do the parks in anything but my Adidas running sneakers w/low rise socks. Even in 90 degree temps...

Ditto, but mine were Nike.

In the evening, though, I was in my flip-flops taking in the Adventurer's Club.

Oh, and I must have walked between 35-40 miles while on vacation last October.

I would go for comfort, if that meant wearing socks with crocks, so be it. If you go with something like Teva's make sure that you have sunscreen on the exposed skin. I forgot to reapply sunscreen at BB once, and had a hot foot (actually feet) for a few days.

Oooh..good point. Apply sunscreen to feet. My natural skin coloring is white as a sheet of paper although my tolerance is a bit better since I do the tanning bed thing 5 days a week. :) The sunscreen is going to be most important this trip, tho.

i caved in on the croc thing last trip. i had been eyeing the mary jane style ones for awhile, but couldnt get past the "ugly" factor. i absolutly love them! i wear them all the time, socks or no socks. colorful ones are the best :) i have a pair of keen shoes also, not the sandal type, but they are super comfy as well. i wear them to work, i walk dogs, and never have a pain at the end of the day! for flip flops my faves are the reef "fanning" style. they have the bottle openers on the bottom. i have a very high arch and these have plenty of support in them. also very comfy. check out zappos.com, they have a great selection, free overnight shipping both ways. love them! good luck and have fun! no idea when ill be back to the world :(

Merrell's are pricey but definitely worth the price. After long hours on feet I still feel great even with nerve issues and plantar faciatis. They make some trendy sandals for the summer. Next to my New Balances they are my favorite. As comfortable as crocs are they do tend to make my feet feel tired not to mention the sweat they create. If you are on a mission for Crocs, check the upscale dept. stores, they have some different styles that are less "chunky." The price for crocs is the just about the same (w. in $ 5.00) every place I have checked. You can also order from crocs.com. Another thought, I have a pair of croc flips that I actually bought in the kids dept. The childrens crocs are made narrower than he adults. I do not remember what size I bought but my adult size is average, size 7. I would not be too worried about how your feet look while at WDW in the summer. The rest of you will be a sweaty mess...sorry but very true! Be comfy and have fun.

I know it's been said, but it's worth saying again: If you wear any kind of open shoe PUT SUNSCREEN ON YOUR FEET! Oh please trust me on this one. Us FL residents see all forms of tourists in agony on a regular basis. Tops of the feet are one of those areas people never think to apply - and re-apply with great frequency - sunscreen to.

That said, I always wear sneakers. Hot or cold weather, they are the most comfortable for me.

I must be weird, I wear my Old Navy flip flops all summer, including when I went to WDW last August, I got no blisters, and my feet never hurt.... maybe i am strange, but you cant go wrong with $3 flip flops in every color you could imagine!

Sorry about this but am I the only one who thinks crocs are an abomination against nature? Like The Devil Waers Prada Meets Beetlejuice?

Teva during the day and Nike's at night - only way to go. If it's raining, Teva only. Then you don't spend the night hearing the bump-bump-bump of sneaks in the dryer.
