Well, in our case, this isn't about building new buildings, just about keeping from going into the hole next school year. So, $70,000 of cuts will go into effect this school year, and next year....more staff cuts and potentially closing one of the elementary schools. People think by voting no, that will force the state to correct the school funding issue. Problem is, if what they are working on does correct things, it wouldn't go into effect until 2011. Four years of cuts, and that's assuming what they're doing in Columbus will be effective.
School districts have no choice right now, they haven't been given one by the state. It's a rock-and-a-hard-place situation.
I agree cuts are not good for schools. We haven't had to cut in a very long time. The school enlargements were made about 3 ot 4 yrs ago. We haven't had a school bond issue since then. So this yr might be the yr for that.:zipit:
