Suggestion for Moderate Resorts

I am planning a vist for Mid-October 4 people, 2 adults and two older teen boys.
Last time we stayed at Disney (4 years ago) it was at the CB and we loved it. I would like to stay at a moderate again. What do people suggest POR, POFQ, CS, AKL or back to the CB. Any thoughts would be appriciated.

Coronado Springs for a couple of reasons:

1. Beautiful Resort
2. Lots of Dining options and theyu are all wonderful
3. The main pool is great and the other "Quiet" pools are also nice
4. Nightlife options - Rix Lounge, Luguna bar, and Siestas are always fun for drinks
5. Lago Dorado - they have Boat & Bike rentals which is fun for the day time
6. They just overhauled the rooms and put in new beds

IMO - It truley is a beautiful resort should you choose it I hope you like it as much as I do.

I definitely vote for the CSR. It was our boys favorite resort (our oldest is going in July with his girlfriend and his baseball team--he coaches) and is unhappy because the CSR was not one of the resorts with the package (he has to stay at the CBR and is not happy with the pirate/nemo theme at all). I think your kids will love the Dig Site pool, the sand volleyball court, the largest hot tub of all the moderates and the fact that there is a fitness center/spa (spa for MOM) as well. Add to that the fact that the CSR now has queen beds and a sliding door between the bathroom and bedroom, it can't be beat.

Port Orleans definitely gets great reviews on the boards.

Its the beignets at French Quarter that help that out. They are nothing but sinfully delicious. :slurp: It also doesn't feel like a moderate. The CM's there are the best.:)

Thanks to all
I was hedging to POFQ and had not been in favor of CSR because we have been to Mexico, and the distance from the parks, but but now I am intrigued. Our Boys are 17 and 16 so the queen beds may be nice. How is the transportation from CSR to the parks?

I have stayed at POFQ and CS. I enjoyed the restaurants, pools and theming much more at CS and if you get a refurb'd room (are they all done yet), they are much nicer than POFQ.
FQ seemed like any old hotel other than the boats to DTD, where as CS had much more of a true resort feel to it.

CSR is my family favorite! I don’t know if it will work for you but pick which resort theme you like best and which resort amenities meet your family's needs. Also, check out my CSR website below for updated info and pics.

Here is just some quick info on CSR.

CSR has newly renovated rooms (over half done as of 5/2009) and queen beds (only mod to offer them).

A terrific main pool area that includes a 123 ft slide (2nd largest at WDW), kiddie pool, arcade, playground, sand volleyball court, hot tub (largest on WDW property), a bar, and snack bar (very good food for CS).

Reliable transportation that is not shared with other resorts, 4 resort stops and quick rides to all the parks. CSR has the closest bus stops to the park entrances too (first stop at DHS and MK)!

Other amenities you may be looking for in a resort.

Only moderate to offer suites.

A spa, salon, tanning beds, a lap pool and fitness center (free to its guests).

Full menu room service, expensive though.

Central air, flat panel TV’s and WiFi available.

Rix Lounge – a dance club voted most trendy bar in Orlando.

A business center with computer access.

But remember CSR is a convention center too and has a huge convention area. I've gone for a few events before and this can make the resort more crowded (there's a lot more rooms here than POFQ as well) Just something else to consider.

Hey everyone these are great recommendations.
We have come down to either CSR or POFQ. The pools and rooms at CSR look great. How is the pool and transportation at POFQ? Our sons love the parks, but also like to come back to the resort, hang out and read by the pool.

What promo is that? The web site now lists $149 as the lowest price at coronado and $240 as the lowest price at AKL.

About Booking
You must book by 6/21/09. For phone bookings, you pay a deposit of one night's room rate plus tax. No change or cancellation fee will be charged if you make your modification more than 5 days before arrival.

I wouldn't be surpised if similar codes came out for the rest of the year as well.

Thanks again everyone
We are still undecided, but does anyone know how hard it is to get to and from the parks if staying at POFQ and does it have a nice pool area?
Thanks

The POFQ has the pool with the serpent slide. It is smaller than the CSR pool and the slide is shorter (the slide at the CSR's Jaguar Slide is 123 feet).

The pool at FQ is quite nice, though I like the one at PO-R more. In fact many people consider "Ol' Man Island" at Riverside to be second to the pool at Yacht/Beach Clkub as the best pool on property.

Depending on how busy it is, sometimes POFQ and PO-R share bus lines. I think AKL always has its own dedicated bus line; as a result, buses are often less crowded than PO-R/POFQ. The flip side to this, however, is that AKL is more out of the way. the buses to Animal Kingdom will be incredibly frequent, but sometimes buses for anywhere else seem like they take longer to get to you.

And as far as the difference in pricing, bear in mind that, the "Standard view" in AKL is VERY standard. When I stayed there, my view was of the top of the building's awning-like extension. If you stepped out of the balcony, leaned over and craned my head down, I saw feet. Didn't care because I really wanted to stay at AKL, it was the first time I had been at WDW in something like 7 years, and it's what I could afford at the time. But the standard view might not be any view at all, FYI.

The conventioneers pretty much keep to themselves. You may see them in the restaurants but not usually at the pool area. When they're not at their convention meetings they're at the parks.

Buses to MK were really quick when we stayed at POFQ. For other parks, it was about the same as at the other moderates.

Funnily enough, the last three resorts we've stayed at have been AKL, POFQ and CBR .. To us, AKL is just a huge step up from the Mods and absolutely worth the premium, but I can certainly understand people's general approval for POFQ. POFQ has lots of nice trees which creates a peaceful setting and sense of seclusion - the only thing I didn't care for were the bus wait times, but that is hit or miss really as far as your luck goes with the buses. I'd rate the restaurants at POFQ as average.

As for CSR and WL, I'm hoping to check them out soon so make sure to tell us your final choice!
