Studios to Epcot

We plan to be in the studios one morning then hop over to Epcot at lunchtime. We don't want to take the bus but can't decide between walking and taking the boat. Is the walkway worth giving a try? Would we see much of interest? Same for the boat. Leaning towards walking but my 11 year old, who is happy to run about with his pals for hours playing football and happily walked miles everyday when last at Disney, has developed an aversion to walking for purely practical purposes and asked to take the car to the shop yesterday (exactly 1 minute 30 seconds away at a gentle walking pace - No!)

Depends on time of year...it is a pretty hefty (and meltingly HOT) walk between DHS and Epcot at lunchtime. If your trip is between October and March, the walk can be pleasant (although there is nothing to see that you can't also see from the boat); however between April and September with the noon sun? Awful. Take the boat!

The walk is faster than the boat. I always do the walk, and my parents always take the boat. I don't think they have ever beaten us to Epcot, even if the boat is boarding right when they get to the dock. The portion of the walk between DHS and the Boardwalk is not very interesting. The sidewalk is right next to the waterway, and there isn't much to look at. The walk from the Boardwalk to Epcot is much more interesting. I kind of agree with the poster above. If you don't have to wait for it, take the boat to the Swan/Dolphin or the Boardwalk and walk from there (via the Boardwalk side of the lagoon). Then you get the best of both worlds.

The walk is faster, but there isn't much of interest to see. You will just walk past a few hotels and through part of the Boardwalk hotel. The boat will take 10 minutes more than walking, but it is a nice option if you aren't in a hurry.

I don't think there is a bus option at all.

Our family walks about 90% of the time. Agree with all above that say if you want a little of both take the boat to S & W stop and walk rest of the way to Epcot. Our kids are 13 and 10 and don't mind the walk unless it's 1:00 am;)

Like a PP has said, I would walk unless you are going to be there in the hottest part of the year. The walk is much faster as it seems like the boat takes forever and a day. Best of luck and enjoy your vacation! :)

The boat does take a bit longer (especially if there is much of a wait or a long line at the dock for a boat to come), however, if your son has gained an aversion to walking lately, he may find the boat to be interesting. The walk from HS to the Boardwalk is very, very boring. Nothing to see but trees and the boats going past you along the waterway, which may annoy him even more if he has to do the walk. I do think walking along the actual Boardwalk area, though, is beautiful and interesting and it makes me feel like I'm instantly transported to another place.

Like I mentioned, sometimes there is a long wait at the boat dock at Hollywood Studios. There have been times where the line was long enough that we didn't make it onto the first boat and had to continue to wait in line for a second boat to come. But we have also had times where we got there right as the boat was arriving and we didn't have to wait at all. So maybe try to gauge your decision based on the length of the line. With the walk not being unbearable, it doesn't make much sense on my trips to wait significantly longer on a busy boat day rather than just going ahead with the walk there.

Either way, it's a short trip both walking or boat-riding, and you will soon be in the park and continuing on with your vacation. I hope you have a great time!

Along these lines . . . how long do the boats run from the Boardwalk area to the Studios? We'll be at the Studios in the morning, but having dinner over at the Boardwalk. Was hoping to check out Jelly Rolls for a quick night cap before heading back to the Studios to pick up the car.

Thanks everyone, some really great advice. Think we will do half and half as so many have suggested - have always meant to see the Boardwalk and this way we will get to while the Boy won't have so much walking to object to!! We're going in October so shouldn't be too sweltering.

All I can seem to find on this is that the boats stop running "One hour after park close." Take a look at the park hours that day for Hollywood Studios (it varies quite a bit). If for some reason you do miss the last boat, the walk really isn't that bad to get back over to HS from Jelly Rolls.

I like the walk...but I get anxious because I feel like so much time is being "wasted" walking. Wasted b/c I could be soaking in the wonder of Epcot! :) As for the boat...I LOVE the boat. It is so pleasurable and you still see everything, more actually. We always take the boat, whether we need to go from one park to the next or not - mostly just a full loop b/c we like it. :)

I think the walk on that half is more interesting anyways then the walk from DHS to the resorts.

walking on the yacht & beach club side is fun too. you can see their awesome pool and walk thru the sand on the beach. the walk from the resorts to the studios is dreadfully boring. and HOT. but, i am admittedly a friendship lover. :)
