Stroller question

We're still undecided on whether to bring our daughter with us on our trip in April, as she will only be around 10 months old by then. But in the event that we decide to take her, I have a question about the rentable strollers.

I never really thought about it, but my wife noticed, than on those Travel Channel WDW specials, anytime it shows people with kids in a stroller (not counting their own strollers that they bring from home), it's always the blue, front facing strollers with a toddler in them. She would probably be too small for that kind of stroller. But we're wondering if that's the only kind of stroller they have, or if they have one that is more suitable for a baby as opposed to a toddler?

First of all, I think you should take your daughter! She will have sooooo much fun and isn't too young at all to go! We first took our ds when he was 6 months and then again at 15 months and will be going again next month and he'll be 2. There are tons of things she'll be able to do!

So, onto your question. If you take your daughter, bring your own stroller. Those Disney ones are only meant for older children. I still wouldn't put my 2 yr old in them! They are sooo hard and she'd be so uncomfortable. No way she'd be able to nap in one of those. There are places though that you can rent ones that would be more suitable for her. Here is one site:

Just google Orlando stroller rentals and tons of places will come up. They will deliver right to your resort.

Have fun and if you decide to take your daughter and have any questions, you can send me a pm if you'd like.

Thanks for the reply, but now I guess I'm gonna have to tell my wife that she was right! :hammer: I told her that's probably just all that we are seeing on the TV shows, but that they surely have strollers suitable for babies.

They've redone them and in my opinion they're worse than the blue ones. You'll definately have to take your own or rent one.

Baby/Infant Strollers

Having recently taken my infant DS to WDW (his first visit at less than 5 months), I can tell you that all you have to do is ask for an infant stroller. not every park had one and, of course, it's based on availability, but it is good to just ask.

You'll want to have your own stroller. Stroller rentals at Disney are more expensive than buying one and the last thing you want to have to do is take a sleeping baby out of the stroller when you're exiting the park. Not to mention having to rent one if you go downtown, or deal with the airport if you're flying.

We took both of our kids at 9 months and they loved it! Character interactions are awesome!! Enjoy!

Here is an idea that worked for my family....

Instead of spending money on a rental, you could invest in a good travel stroller that you can use not only on this trip, but future trips as well. Combi makes great ones. They are meant for traveling, so they are lightweight, easy to fold, and have a carrying strap attached.

We bought two Combi travel strollers before our kids first trip (kids ages were 12 months and four years old). We've not only used them on every Disney trip since (although our oldest is now past stroller age), we loved them so much we ended up using one altogether at home for our youngest. That stroller has made it through 6 Disney trips, countelss other vacations, and nearly daily use at home and is still in great shape!

They are comfortable enough for a 10 month old and will hold up to 55 pounds, so you would get plenty of use out of it for many years to come. My daughter was 12 months old, but very, very tiny for her age...and she was not walking yet. The stroller worked out great for her...she took lots of naps in it on that first trip. Plus, with younger kids it REALLY helps to have the strollers outside the parks as well.

I agree with the idea of purchasing a smaller stroller. I took my 8 month old in March, prior to our vacation we bought a smaller Graco stroller. It was very lightweight and even came with a carrying strap, it folded up pretty small too. I am glad we did because there are times when you need a stroller and you are not in the parks.

We also took our daughtr when she was almost three and we rented the Disney strollers. I will say I absolutely love the Disney strollers. I think they are easy to push and convenient if the child is big enough. That being said they can get costly and are not appropriate for a smaller child who could easily slide or tumble out.

Bring your child! I was very hesitant to bring my 8 month old but I did and it really wasn't bad. We had a few snags but it wasnt anything out of the norm for him. Do searches on these forums on things you want to know and are concerned about. There are tons a very good ideas here.

Yeah, sometimes my wife is right too. I hate it when that happens.

Thank you so much for the Orlando Stroller Rental site! I just sent it to my husband who I am sure will be more than enthused. At our last two trips this past year, he had a few choice words for our Jeep travel stroller that we rarely use at home but took for the trip.:ROFLOL:

I am totally against renting strollers from Disney. Too expensive, uncomfortable, not able to recline. Haven't looked into the stroller rental company though.

From experience......

We took our 10 month old daughter for her first trip. We purchased a Graco Lite Rider stroller the week before we went. It think it cost $59. In addition to my mom using it when she babysits daily, it became our Disney stroller (she's been there 6 times, and we purchased a new stroller after the 4 trip).

It was great because we didn't see many that looked like it, we always could find ours. We didn't rent one there because we wanted it for the bus too.

I don't recommend bringing/buying an expensive stroller -- because the airlines kills them. Stroller 1 had to be replaced because of the beating it took on the plane ride home. Stroller 2 was all greasy after one of our flights.
