We are booked to arrived at PORS on Oct 1st. We have made some payments but still have a balance due on 8/18. I am stressing the remainder of the balance because of some unexpceted broken applicacnces (our dishwasher and our oven went out 24 hrs apart:brick:) and an oddly late medical bill from the birth of our son in April (though that was paid off in May BEFORE the booking of the trip :brick:and just found about the bill yesterday fingers crossed insurance will come through has not been submitted yet)
We do have a car for sale on Auto trader, Cars.com, newspaper and craigs list and were just hoping to save the money...am now getting worried about paying the balance before the 18th...
Just wanted to vent I knew my fellow disney addicts would understand! This our first trip for longer than 4 days and 1st in a mod, which we have to stay in b/c of 4 kids. We work very hard for our vacations and save all year, these unexpected things just really have me stressed and bummed out...hoping for some Disney Magic to get our car sold in time!

I feel your pain. We had a couple of those months is a row where money just seemed to be flying out of our savings accounts for house and auto repairs and unexpected bills that just showed up out of nowhere. I would not stress too much over the 18th dead line. Disney is quite flexible about this date....after all they want all of your money not just a cancellation fee. Give them a call and they will work with you.

I think a lot of us feel your pain. I stress every deadline and then once I get past them I stress saving enought spending cash. It will all be worth it once 10/1 gets here. Hang in there and I am praying the mouse sends you some pixie dust to help sell the car!!!!

I don't have any suggestions beyond a yard sale, but I know that financial burdens have often come and gone in my life. I believe that it will work out for you. Best wishes on a grand trip to WDW.

Yeah, our balance was due on August 1st but I talked to some folks at Disney and let them know we wouldn't be able to pay it until roughly the 12th or 13th. The thing is, they won't cancel your package until after 30 days out from your arrival date.

I really hope you guys make it so you can have that stress off of your shoulders.

Hi there,

I understand too - $1400 in car repairs and $1100 in medical bills right now, just before our own October trip. I'll second the yard sale idea - they don't work for me, since I don't have kids stuff to sell, but with 4 of them, I'm sure you can find stuff to put out there!

I feel your pain. we booked for april 2010 and from january 2010 until then we had so many random events. Dad got put in the hospital for a week(huge bill there), I got into an accident and had to pay for the repairs, and other stuff. Once March came we didn't think we were going to be able to make it this year. But we all ended up working more hours, cutting back on adrs, and staying for 7 days instead of 9 and we were able to go.

It will all end up working out.

ebay is my best friend. I made enough money on ebay already to pay for our meals on a past trip. Of course, my daughter is a gymnast so I sell her old leos which gives me tons of money but I had a friend that sold enough on ebay to pay for her family of 5 to go to the beach for a week and stay in a beachfront condo. I know the condo was over $1000 for the week plus she had enough for gas, food, and everything they wanted to buy while there. With four kids I'm sure you can find some stuff to sell.

money for the house/medical payments is always priority over being able to take a vacation.

If you are reeally worried that much about the costs, maybe you should cut back down to the Value. I bet the idea of staying in a Mod is probably exciting, but it's not not worth the extra stress of whether or not the trip is affordable, or the regret later of maybe the money should have been used on something else.

I am with you - only my trip is less than 24 hours. I have an ING Direct account, as I accidently transferred money from my bank account to my ING Direct account in the amount of $18,000. :( It was only supposed to be for $1800. I do not even have $2000 in the account less long $18,000. So now, all my bills that I had paid are returns, NSF fees for at least 2 or 3 weeks, the list goes on. I was sick yesterday dealing with all of this. Luckily, I took out some cash last week for my vacation and paid off the balance of my resort in July. Otherwise, I would have had to cancel my WDW vacation.

I know what you're going through. I paid off my trip last week, but now THIS week all the bills have come due. I thought I had it all budgeted right, but somehow I missed a few in there. I wouldn't be stressing so much if we didn't also have a trip to Dragon*Con to pay for at the end of the month too!

If insurance doesn't come thru (I am crossing my fingesr for you!) try calling the Dr.s office and working out a payment plan - I did that when 6 months after my son was born I got a bill from the Dr. that was not covered by insurance - they said I could pay $20 a month for um...forever...with no interest. Good luck!!

Hope everything works out for the best...I am sure Disney will work with you as best as they can.

Mine was a $3200 vet bill for my cat, which happened a month after we came back from WDW. If it had happened prior to that, I don't think we would have gone.

With both of my kids- I received several medical bills pre-insurance. First thing I did was call the billing firm to confirm if they'd run it through my insurance yet. In all but one case- the answer was "the bill is pre-insurance and we'll send you a new bill once we've adjusted for the insurance- don't pay anything now."

The one headache bill- the billing firm was paid by insurance (and I had all of my statements to prove it), but the medical firm screwed up their records. A day of research turned into a week, then weeks, then months, then over a year of research and issues. Which resulted in them giving me a negotiated rate below the post insurance copay amount I figured I'd be spending and they let me do a payment plan.

The moral of these stories- the medical part of your grief may end up being a non-issue, a small issue, or an issue you may not have to really deal with for quite some time. Good luck- fingers crossed for you.

Awww thanks WDWMagic for the support!
I would switch to a Value but we have 4 darling little ones so we have to book mods from now on. All of the above advice is being taking right now, have many items on eBay and we just sold our car luggage carrier on CL so we are $70.00 closer to WDW...
Wishing you all an Uncle Scrooge to open his money bags for your upcoming trips:wave: Hopefully we all can make!

As for the med bill from my son, insurance did pay thier portion I guess that is what took so long for us to get it.

Sounds like we all go thru the same stressing and fretting! I'm on a 10/6 deadline....I'm tightening my belt and will eventually be able to pay it off....I will ask for a couple extra days though as I get another check right after my deadline date and I'm sure they'll be happy to take my final pay off amount then...so no worries! Everything will work out in the end.

Just one other thing to check on the bill. I got a bill a few weeks ago for the first "follow up" visit I had for my son...........which was from January 2009. I was very upset. It was a first billing and even though it was only like $135 I was mad- it had been a year and a half and they just now decided to bill me! So long story short I called and argued with them and they said it was my insurance company's fault for taking so long to let them know how much I owed. I called my insurance company and they said absolutely not- they sent me the copies to prove they paid them and let them know my balance in Feb. 09. Called the hospital back with my new facts and they mysteriously didn't know what was happening- they would call me back. A half hour later I got a call saying they were adjusting my balance to zero. So.........it pays to check into these things. Sometimes a bill slips through their cracks and they think they can just bill you when they find the mistake- there is a reasonable amount of time it might take and then there is just plain bull. Follow up with your insurance to see what is happening and if the hospital took this long to bill you tell them it will take you the same amount of time to pay them!!

garage sale?

Could you have a garage sale or have things to sell on Craig's List? Saving change but that takes time to build. I wish you luck, I hope everything goes your way! :animwink:

I certainly wish you all the best in making ends meet as well as having a great time on your Disney trip. I am the type who will often beg/steal/borrow if it means a trip to Disney. Is that financially responsible of me. No. No excuses here. :)

Hang in there and just keep your thoughts positive. Hopefully everything will work out well and you will be enjoying yourself at WDW in no time.
