whats sad is, I can guarantee you both cars were utter rice... so the money and time spent on them probably was $30 for a set of Pep Boys rims and Autozone neon.

Idiots like that give the rest of us automotive fanatics a bad name

Not true, Rob. They can do whatever they want to the car, but as long as they stay responsible, it's not a problem. You auto geeks don't have a bad rep, it just doesn't pull some people's chains.

The 2 guys were students at Poincianna High School.

The car didn't look like it was too souped up, but of course it's hard to tell with as much damage as it had.

You know what's weird, though? I just remembered that on my drive home from Disneyland last night, I saw a couple of cars street racing on I-5. In pretty heavy traffic, too. I mean, I condier myself to have a fairly lead foot, as many here in SoCal do - I'll drive home at 90+ if traffic allows. However, last night I don't think I went above 80 more than a few times, but these two guys were easily well over 100, swerving way out into the shoulders to get around traffic.

It's a shame that when you are old enough and mature enough to understand the gravity of your actions, it is usually too late

Thanks goodness I had a rubbish, slow car when I was a teenager. That must be awful for the parents

Unfortunately, one doesn't need to soup up a car in order to feel the need to make like a demon and speed. And it isn't just kids who are stupid to do it. I was at a red light once and this man in his late years starts to rev the engine of his pick up. I drive a Scion xB. I looked over at him and gave him a WHAT THE F**K look. You've got to be kidding me!! You look as if you have twenty grandchildren. So I let his speed on his own when the light turned green. Tres', tres' pathetic.

I use to street race all the time. I was an idiot. My first car was an Oldsmobile 4-4-2. Yep, 375 horsepower. There's a reason why insurance rates are high for teenagers, higher for teenage males, and highest for teenage males who don't go to college.

short story:
Just before Christmas, 1974, I was on a rural road in my hometown directly in front of a car full of teens. They sped by me, hit a dip in the road and lost control of their car, slamming into a tree. The car completely split in half and bodies went everywhere. The engine half of the car was smoking and looked like it might catch fire. I pulled two of the kids from the wreckage, already dead. Three other kids were ejected from the car and were dead. The sixth kid, a girl, had been ejected and was moaning but there was nothing I could do for her. She had lost one arm just above her elbow and her head was bleeding profusely. She died holding my shirt sleeve before medical help could arrive. I STILL get Christmas cards from several of the families cuz they believe I have some sort of connection with their kids. VERY sad indeed. They'd be in their 40s today with families of their own.

OMG, that's awful. :( I can't possibly imagine what it would be like to be involved in a scene like that. Definitely an eye-opener, albeit a horribly sad one.

Yes. I'm sure that's what inspired these kids. It wasn't that the movies were inspired by street racers.

I got hit by some racers when I was about 20. Hit me in the back of my Hyundai (go ahead and laugh, I was broke and working three jobs at the time) and kept going. Not hard enough to hurt me, but enough to do some damage to the car. And my nerves. The sense of panic when you know you're about to get hit and can't do anything about it is heartstopping.

Amen. I almost took one of those idiots head-on with a two year old and a nine year old in car. It's a good thing he took off after we were both able to stop, because I think I could have killed him with my bare hands. My wife had to hold me by the arm to keep me in the car. And I am NOT a violent person at all.

In our neck of the woods, the jerks that do this stuff are not true, responsible enthusiasts like MKT, but usually are driving unsafe cars, have no insurance, often have no drivers license or registration, and are in the country illegally. And of course, they have a few beers under their belts. Even if you get their plate number, there's no way to trace them.

I shudder when I think my son will be driving around here in a few years.

I have over 50 logged hours at the track with an instructor (I know.. it doesn't show... it isn't meant to show in my daily driving!) and drive a gas guzzling turbocharged SUV (or something from the family fleet o' fast cars).

knowing that I could easily scare the pants off the asshat in the civic next to me revving his 4 banger and fartcap... do I floor it at an intersection? No. I'll let him floor and, and he can look like a moron when I still pass him without having to floor it.

The Fast and the Furious isn't entirely to blame for this... but it sure as hell had a way of making a false portrayal of street racing look good.

alright... enough venting.

Off topic.. sorta... I'm thinking about a Volvo as my next car.... very safe and can easily be made VERY fast :D

I don't know yet, but its 100% possible it wasn't... in fact, I'm almost leaning torwards it being someone in their 20s...

Anyways... I couldn't find anything about this anywhere on the internet... so until we find out, I guess we don't know the age of the people...

thank you for stickin up for people like me!:) i saw something being blamed on teenagers before on this site and the problem ended up not being a teenagers fault at all! im not saying we're perfect, but no 1 is! we rnt all that bad now r we? we're just like adults, ther r some bad 1s that get caught up w. drugs n gangs n drinking n stealing and all that stuff 2!! i'm sure not all of u hate teenagers ect. but a few comments and i start to think u do! its the same thing in life. a few bad apples ruin it for the rest. so please give us a chance, and dont judge a book by its cover! thanks!

gah... don't make me drool.. lol. I had an S60 as a rental in Puerto Rico and loved it.

I'm thinking a used S70T with an ECU upgrade and a boost gauge/BOV... maybe an FMIC, since I notice Volvos use side mount intercoolers, and a bigger turbo perhaps.. or just bumping up the boost on the stock turbo once I figure out what the stock internals can handle. That should get me in the 300hp range fairly quickly and inexpensively (thank god Volvos depreciate!)

Just wondering - were the teens pronounced dead onsite @ Disney? I think i read a snopes or something that no one gets announced "Dead" @ the happiest places on earth
