This isn't my reason for going but it has benefited me over the past few years. My partner has gone to WDW at least once a year for the past 25 or so years. He thinks the reason he still wants to go every year has to do with an experience when he was around 13 years old. His family was living in Atlanta at the time and they had driven down to Orlando to visit an aunt for the New Year's Holiday. They went to the Magic Kingdom (the only park at that time) on New Year's Eve. He was having a great time and looking forward to the special fireworks show and ringing in the New Year at Disney. About two o'clock in the afternoon his dad said it was time to go. Apparently their aunt was having a New Year's Party at her place but no one had bothered to tell the kids that they were only going to be at Disney World for part of the day. My partner was so mad he toyed with the idea of just disappearing into the crowd so he could stay and finish the day. He thought better of that but vowed to himself that when he grew up, he would go to WDW whenever he wanted and stay as late as he wanted. His sister passed away when her son was 5 years old so he started taking his nephew at least once every year after that while he was growing up. And my partner and I have gone at least once a year since we became a couple almost 9 years ago and I don't see us stopping any time soon.
As so many others have mentioned, it is simply a place to go where we can escape the stress and worries of the real world for about 10 to 12 days at a time and feel like kids again. Granted as we get older, it seems like our feet hurt and we don't have quite the energy to get up for rope drop, stay at the park till closing, go to Waffle House, Perkins, McDonalds, etc. after park close for a late snack, and then end the day with a 2:00 am swim in the pyramid pool at CSR before getting up the next day and starting all over again. But we adjust and still have a great time every trip. And when we step onto main street for the first time each trip, it still feels like we have arrived back at our second home!
