Strangest reason for a Disney trip

The rain and humidity. Hey, I live in the desert. Oh and the multiple forms of transportation and hotel hopping. Heck, my next trip I might not even go in the parks.

I am looking to book for early next year but I don't know if my reasoning of wanting to go "just to walk up Main Street" justifies the trip. I know that asking this question on this site is like asking a room full of children if candy is a reasonable food for dinner but I am asking anyways.

What is the strangest reason you have gone to Disneyworld? We all have gone to Disney for the rides, the atmosphere, the nostalgia, etc. but have you gone just to see a certain character? To ride the ferryboat? To see if they have painted that wall yet?

We make up reasons to go all the time!! We homeschool and live nearby, so we come up with random reasons. We've gone just to see a character, just because I was wanting a caramel apple or the kids wanted whatever it was they wanted to eat, we've gone just to shop and buy gifts for friends/family.

I think the best one was getting on the ferry one afternoon the CM was chatting up my daughter and asked if we were celebrating anything or on vacation and she replied with "Nope we were just BORED so decided to come to Magic Kingdom."

Well, I can't say I've gone for any of the reasons you've specifically named. But, I guess the circumstances under which we go are probably strange to many people. My DH has struggled in his finance-related job ever since the 2008 crash, and so things have been tight for awhile. Month-to-month we budget our income and expenses to the dollar and are very strict with our spending. I'm sure an outsider looking in would tell us we're nuts for going to Disney every year given our tight budget. But, we go to escape. It's our one week of the year where we don't worry about what we spend or eat or how late we're up or how late we sleep in or if we take naps. We just let go for a week. And, then after that week, we're back on with the budget.

We've traveled many places, but for some reason the only place where we truly feel a disconnect from the real world is Disney. So, we make room for it in the budget (somehow) every 12-18 months.

After the death of a family member, when I got home, the only thing I wanted to do was to escape somewhere to be happy and forget, so off I went to WDW for a few days. The escape was exactly what I needed at the time.

We all need a break from the daily struggles and stresses in our lives. As I mentioned in my post, I went after the death of a family member. Some might raise their eyebrows at this, but it's what I needed to cope - escape somewhere to forget for a couple of days. So I won't judge you - it sounds like the perfect medicine for the two of you, just like it was for me.

Exactly what happened with me this year. After the death of my wonderful dachshund, Nickie, I just needed to get away for a bit. This past winter was doing me in and losing Nickie on top of that was just a bit too much for me to cope. Nickie was 18 &1/2 years old and had been with me since she was a baby.

I'm truly sorry for all your losses, and glad that you have found some comfort in going to WDW. Walt designed WDW to escape reality. I believe he would be proud that his dream brought some cheer where there was very little.

Ummm because I had a baby. No really in 2010 I was pregnant with my 4th baby in 6 years and from 32 weeks on I was on bed rest, with 3 kids under 5, it was a long 8 weeks for my enitre family. I hemmoraged after delivery and then once baby and I got the all clear to leave the hosptial I was home for less than 12 hours and rushed back again to stay another 2 days. So once he hit 4 months old and my health was back we took off and had a great trip and our baby was a dream. My family had had a tough year and my husband and children were WONDERFUL, we all got a trip to see the Mouse as a reward.
Our next trip is in September and we are going because DH came home and said, "Free Dining starts tomorrow, call Kingdom Konsulants." So I did:)
I should also add I had our 5th child in Septemeber and we also though it would be pretty cool for him to celebrate it in Disney. I have this dream his 1st steps will be on Main Street

Sometimes you just need to get happy and walk up the happiest street in the USA. We are going in September to do a fact finding mission on how the new Fastpass+/My Disney Experience stuff works. We've been to DisneyWorld about 25 times since 1991 and just when you think you've got it down, they change stuff. Our daughter's high school music department is going next Memorial Day Weekend and the last time the school went there were 150 of them! Yikes! The kids were not allowed to hold onto their hopper passes for fear they might "wander" so my husband and I as chaperones ran around the parks getting fastpasses for our chaperonees. No one at Disney is able to give me a solid answer on how the MagicBands will work for them. I can say for sure the travel company they hire will NOT key in fastpasses for the kids; besides, there are different groups that have workshops and performances at different times. My biggest concern is that the kids will not be able to get fastpasses for the "headliners." Sometimes they will not get to a park until 3:30 or 4 in the afternoon, and any Disneyphile knows all the good fastpasses will be gone!!!
Anyway have a great time! Bottom line-no one needs an excuse to go the Disney. JUST DO IT! :)

May I ask how you set the countdown and list the dates/time you visited Disney? I'm new to this site. and don't know how to navigate well yet.

Sure!! On the top of the webpage, you'll see your member name. If you hold your mouse over your name, a box will pop up and one of the links in the box is "signature." Click on "signature." That will take you to a page where you can insert whatever text you want (i.e., a favorite quote or your trip history).

I tried to put the format for a countdown in this text, but it wouldn't show up (it just kept creating a new countdown). Here's the link from the admins on how to do it:

Good luck and welcome to the forums!!

Because you only live once. This year we'll actually be celebrating my birthday at the parks, which I am super excited for! There is nothing like the feeling I get from watching my DH and my DD's faces as we board the Magical Express from the airport and head to Disney, giddy with excitement. Some people say that a vacation to Disney isn't a vacation, it's work. They're looking at it all wrong. For our family, it's the best vacation and it's never work.

I have amazing memories as a kid going to Disney. My DH and I are very fortunate to be in a situation to be able to vacation at Disney and allow our daughter to have great memories of Disney as well, and to let the cycle continue. My mother was a HUGE Disney fan, loved Minnie Mouse, but as a kid I never truly understood her connection to Disney. When she passed away in 2005, it had always been her dream to take my daughter to Disney, to be there to see my daughter experience that magic for the first time. She never had that opportunity, as she was too sick to travel. So when our family goes to Disney, I feel connected to her, I'm keeping her appreciation of Disney alive, through myself, through my DH and our DD.
