'Strange World' Disney's 2022 Animated Film

I think Bob Iger nailed it in his town hall yesterday, when someone was bold enough to ask if Bob Iger was going to change that policy. He deferred that there was no announcement to make yet, but then he said...

"...he felt creative businesses worked best when employees were together in-person."

No kidding, Bob!

If the employees running the parks that are the company's only cash cow right now can get in their Honda, drive to work and show up 5 days a week while not wearing their pajamas, then the Burbank cubicle army can do the exact same thing to make a few bucks.

Well again as someone who works in a highly skilled and highly collaborative job I can tell you that we're not drinking Merlot during Zoom calls. In fact I can state with personal experience in dealing with some from Disney over Zoom that at least the people I have been in contact with don't either.

And I agree with Iger, but for specific industries or jobs not across the board with the entire global workforce.

But I don't want to derail this thread any more than it already has. All I ask is that you tone it down a little, and consider that maybe that it is possible to be highly productive while working from home even at TWDC.

I ran a research department where pretty much everything could be done from home - we just didn’t do that kind of thing at the time.

But I can say with 100% confidence that the employees who did excellent work in the office would have continued to do so at home. The bad employees didn’t need to stay home to find ways to suck at their jobs.

So getting this ship back on course….when do you think Strange World will debut on D+? I think it failed at the box office more because the window of it coming to TV is so much smaller than it ever has been then any boy having an innocent crush on someone of the same gender.

If I was to guess, still mid-January. But that is only a guess.

Daniel's is no longer at Disney, so maybe the 45 day window is gone with him.

I assume the 45 day window will apply to Strange World. Heck I think it may even be shorter than that. Unless Iger decides he really loves the movie and decides to supercharge the marketing push in theaters for the holiday season

Thinking of it, I think the twist of Strange World, is super cool. Like good twist. BUT it would've been even cooler if the landscapes weren't entirely pepto bismol pink. Could you imagine if the landscapes were a large variety of strange stuff, and then all the sudden they pop out of the turtle?

I suspect Strange World will make $30 million this weekend after all the positive press and good word of mouth it has received. Buddy convinced me it’s not a bomb and it’s definitely not a bad movie.

I'll be contributing $15 to it - this thread has marketed the film better than anything Disney did.

I'll probably watch it too, once its on Disney+. Unlike Lightyear, the main plot still intreagues me.

I'm not mad, just disappointed at Disney for not marketing this. I can only guess what happened there.

The Parks Division is the cash cow now, and its 100,000 employees aren't given the luxury of working from home. They get up, shower, drive to work, and work at their jobs in person. Not wearing pajamas.

There is a difference my friend, and I'm sure you know it. Service industry jobs will always require in-person workers as long as the job hasn't been automated (which I'm sure its coming to Disney Parks at some point in the future).

I think that one issue behind Strange Worlds & Lightyear is their locations. In most disney flicks, they either take place in one colorful and fun location or they travel across different unique locations.

Lightyear takes place in dull brown and grey planet, Strange World takes place in a divisive pepto bismol pink planet.

People would look at one trailer and think "wait that's it? that looks boring/gross, I don't want to see that" and move on with their day.

Ever.

Anyone who has not seen this gem needs to seek it out.
The sets, costume design, music, and special effects are fantastic and very well done.
Charming story ...with a few 'cheesy' moments, but all in good fun.

Well, if you see it, you will see that the animation is amazing.

I'm sure the animation is quite good considering the price tag, I'm just trying to figure out what could've driven people away when there wasn't any major competing family movies out during last weekend.

It goes with the Disney Formula (, but thankfully not Pixar). It's a weird cycle that is for some reason on repeat with Disney. The Disney Renaissance in the late 80's to mid 90's was started because they went back to their Bread and Butter.... Princesses. The thing that made Disney a household name and was adored by many. Over the years they've made lots of money with this subject matter. Then (every time) they start thinking their poop doesn't stink and they can make anything and be a success. So they begin experimenting with Non Princess stuff. .... And what happens??? Most of them of course end up failing and they have go back to their reliable Princesses.

Well the dark times are back.

How many times are they going to do a Sci Fi movie? They never do good, stick to what you do good.

Princess and animals. Zootopia, Lady & the Tramp, Lilo & Stitch (to an extent). Massive money makers.
Though Pixar did make Wall E, and that did super well, so I guess sci fi animation could work if the story is really good and it starred a cute non human character.
