'Strange World' Disney's 2022 Animated Film

My point was more that parents go into Marvel movies expecting their children to see more mature content. If you're ok with your kids seeing cities blow up and hearing profanity, you probably also don't have a big problem with them being exposed to homosexual relationships. Of course, that's not always true, but serves as a general observation. I know that, of the Marvel movies, there are very few I actually would be ok with my children watching, and it has nothing to do with homosexuality.

Disney movies, on the other hand, are expected to be safe for everybody to enjoy. Yes, there may be some mature content (such as the Evil Queen wanting Snow White's heart), but it's never graphic or glorifying.

That's it exactly.

There's a huge difference between an 8 year old boy and a 14 year old boy. I don't blame parents one bit for wanting to keep their 8 year old an 8 year old. That's their perfect and sacred right as parents, in any era or country or language.

I wonder- should the old vault titles been pay per view?

It's interesting that at one point Disney practiced forced scarcity and was very careful about protecting the legacy of their beloved animated films. But then a few years ago they said 'nevermind!' and it all went out the window.

There definitely needs to be two tiers of Pixar/WDA films- theatrical budget stuff, and straight to D+ stuff. Let the A team take over the theatrical stuff, and the interns experiment on the streaming platform before proving themselves for the big leagues.

But when their theatrical stuff is Strange World quality getting beat by such modern classics as The Minions: Rise of Gru I guess it doesn't matter.

Really made someone like me, who bought pretty much all the Disney and Pixar movies on Blu Ray, feel like a sucker. With that said, I don’t think they include all the bonus feature stuff on D+ do they ?

I think there's some but not all of the bonus features. And I think it varies wildly depending on the film.

4k Blu Ray is theoretically the highest possible quality a film can be for home video- the sound is uncompressed and the bitrate for the film is significantly higher than streaming, so even if the advertised resolution is the same the actual picture quality is better.

So I'm glad I have a substantial physical media library and have done my best to collect as many of the 'iconic' Disney films I care about in physical form as possible.

One of the things I like about Phase 4 of Marvel is the bolder artistic swings they have taken. However, many of the projects have been more divisive because Marvel is leaning hard into specific genres. Fans of WandaVision may not necessarily like Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Eternals and Thor: Love and Thunder are completely different in terms of tone, vibe and visuals. A somber movie like Wakanda Forever is NOTHING like the goofy shenanigans of She-Hulk. Young tweens that like and relate to Ms. Marvel may not be able to sit through a adult character-driven drama like Moon Knight.

Before Phase 4, the Marvel projects were a bit more homogenous. The MCU has taken more risks lately, but the reactions to the risks have been mixed.
Artistic swings have been a part of Marvel films since the MCU's inception. CA: The Winter Soldier is a much different tone than Guardians of the Galaxy for example - both were released in 2014 with high praise from both despite how different they were.

I think the quantity is more the issue with Phase 4.

I like the MCU because of how it all connects. But with more hours of content in Phase 4 than all of Phases 1-3 combined, I'm at a loss of the direction for the overarching story, and I found many of the Disney+ series to 2 hour stories stretched out over 6 TV episodes, leading to several episodes where it felt like content for the sake of content.

In the end of the day, I think this movie will forever will be tied with one of my funniest disney memories.

The exact way I discovered Iger replacing Chapeak was through a twitter reply that said "Man, is strange world really that bad?"

I certainly feel quite disappointed having to eat crow, naturally. But let's also put something in perspective here.

The reason certain movies are projected to fail is simply because the press WANTS them to fail, and they go "See, it's failing!" They have a pre-set narrative, and they are dead set to condition the audience to respond to it. If the press didn't plant things like that and just took an approach of "let the chips fall where they may," the movie in question would be appreciated more on its own merits, instead of the public, buying what the press says, and going, "Oh, it's not going to succeed, why bother buying a ticket to see what the fuss is about?" I hate that aspect. Basically it's as if they take it upon themselves to be like Johnny Appleseed, planting garbage instead of apple trees.

The press basically shoved a great number of Disney's films down in this manner, kept saying "It'll fail, it'll fail, it'll fail," and the mantra was lazily accepted. Why? Because the press is so in love with the idea of "Disney in disarray", they'll do whatever it takes to make it so and manufacture things to go along with the valid problems. They just want to kick Disney in the teeth for anything and everything.
Thanks for that stunning analysis, Mr Chapek...

Oh you guys are still posting on this thread? What’s the point? All except the most mundane messages will be deleted.
The only posts I’ve seen removed are the ones attacking other members or engaging with said posts. They’ve allowed some fairly controversial comments to stay posted, and I respect that. The moderation on this site is significantly better than any other Disney forum.

Check again. That’s what I thought as well until this morning. Looks like a lot of posts were deleted.

My post about disliking the Twitter joke in Moana was deleted. Of all the ones to delete, why that one?

Lol. Pretty much everything I posted yesterday is gone. What did I say that was wrong? Was it wrong to explain why I don’t want to take my kids to see this? Or the post telling TP that people are on high alert after Lightyear?

Ten dollars? Where do you live? Here, you can barely get in the door of a theatre for under $20.00 per ticket. We almost went to Glass Onion in the theatre just for the big screen, even though we have Netflix, but we decided on Bones and All instead, which turned out to be fantastic.
Well, out here in fly-over country, we can still see a movie for under $15.00. In fact, I can see a matinee of Strange World for only $10.50 this afternoon. Interestingly, if I want to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it'll cost me $12.50.

Looks like Strange World is on sale!

Sit thru the credits next movie you watch, and count all the jobs involved.
I sat through minions and that had lots of people who worked on it. But its budget was only 74 million. I don't see how strange world or lightyear warranted 100 and 125mil more respectively.
When a studio puts out a stinker, instead of blaming it on a bad screenplay, will the excuse now be to call the audience "ists" and "phobs"?
That's been the norm for a long time now.
