'Strange World' Disney's 2022 Animated Film

I did see trailers for this before Thor4 and Lightyear, so it was playing before some recent movies.

Its possible Disney is deciding to see if they can make this a sleeper hit via a smaller marketing campaign. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest movie theater days of the year. And when families look at their local Cineplex for movies to take the whole family to, what are they going to find? Well not much this year, especially not for families with kids younger than teens. So you'll get a bunch of families seeing a Disney movie listed and likely take a chance on it because they haven't heard very much negativity about it.

So I wouldn't rule this one as a bomb just because it doesn't have a huge marketing campaign. Plus there are still 2 weeks before its release, they could start a marketing campaign right after BP2 is released. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see a trailer for it playing before BP2.
Maybe also, if the movie is more "under the radar" there will be less of a pre-emptive conservative backlash against the movie like there was with Lightyear.

If I were Disney I'd keep Strange World in theaters at least until January, as it could pick up some families over the Christmas break who may not see Avatar due to the PG-13 rating.

You'd think after Encanto, Disney will have learned their lesson and not dump their new animated release on Disney+ right as the Xmas school break starts.

And that's the thing.... if this appears on Disney+ during the winter holiday break, my family will certainly watch it then. But we won't be seeing it in the theaters regardless.

Well even if its kept to the 45 day window that'll push it to mid-January before it leaves theaters anyways.

Also since there isn't many family movies being released through the end of the year I have no doubt that it'll be kept in theaters until mid-January.

Encanto's run was kneecapped by Disney announcing it'll be on D+ on Christmas day, with just a 30 day window. It missed almost all of Christmas vacation.

There were many factors for Encanto getting an early D+ release though. Its unlikely in my opinion that'll happen again, especially because of what happened with Encanto.

While looking forward to Strange World and am rooting for it to do well, I am 95% sure it will flop hard. Even if you ignore the gay controversy or the fact that Disney's Sci-Fi movies rarely do well, I simply am not seeing this movie promoted AT ALL. I have AMC A-list so I go to the cinema almost three times a week. And I haven't seen the trailers for Strange World get played at any of the movies I have seen.

In the past two months, I have seen the IMAX 3D re-release of Avatar, Don't Worry Darling, Bros, The Woman King, Halloween Ends, Smile, Orphan: First Kill, Black Adam, Pearl, a 30th-anniversary re-release of Dracula,....
That must be the Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman. I love that movie.

It was my first time seeing it. While I don't think it was a great movie (was more style over substance and I couldn't get on board with the Dracula/Mina romance), it had an AMAZING atmosphere/aesthetic, making it a perfect watch for October/Halloween. It was also great to see so much money invested in physical sets and costumes and prosthetics. It made everything seem so much more real than today's CGI fests.

The one I like the best outside of the original Lugosi version is the '79 Frank Langella version. It just seemed so scary as a kid.

I just saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever last night and they didn't even have a trailer for Strange World in front of it! And they are both Disney owned-movies!

Well there is this figure set. It is pretty predictable since everything has one of these sets. The Avatar figures are better.

Hmmmmm 4+. That is an interesting group to market to. It will be interesting to see, post holidays of course, how that demographic reacted and motivated their parents to purchase any of these items. I see they are labeled "collectables" but realistically not very many 4+ are collectors.

Those gift boxes are all labeled 4+. You can get one from every animated Disney movie. They sell them in the Small World gift shop.
