I was thinking of that as I typed. There is a hardcore group of year round folks who hunker down and survive the summer.

They're incredible. I went out there once in August and had the BEST time with that gang. And no one ever goes anywhere until at least an hour after sundown, but then the party starts! The year-round residents are bonded by that summer experience. Like people who survived a ship sinking or something, and have a Life Boat #4 reunion every year. 🤣
My older brother has lived in Indio for 31 years, and I lived down there for about 6 (1998-2004). You get used to the heat and try not to go outside for extended periods of time mid-day if you can help it.

I helped paint parking stall lines in our church parking lot when it was like 104 out. I drank so much water. I don't know if my body could handle that anymore.

How is this any different then Vegas or Phoenix or Tucson ?
It's mostly the retired people that live in the country clubs or expensive neighborhoods that only live there during the winter. There's still between a quarter to half a million people in Coachella Valley that live year round. The population has boomed over the last 20-30 years due to lower real estate value in comparison to most other regions in California.

I presume that club members live in the community and have their own house with their own bedroom.

Who wants to stay in basically a hotel room which the activities of a community center right outside one's door?
Probably for guests. They might also have reciprocity with other clubs around the country.

The other answer is more amusing!

I suspect this will be marketed to be used for "team-building retreats" or some such nonsense.

Honestly, the fact that I can't push a button and make all the living room furniture fall into an indoor pool makes this a deal-breaker. 🤣

These resemble the mid-century modern look about as much as Mickey Mouse resembles a real mouse.

Thank you, I thought the exact same thing. About the only item that vaguely resembles Mid Century Modern is the pendant lamps in the kitchen that are almost in the same form (but with different materials) as George Nelson's line of bubble lamps. The flying saucer ones Mr. Nelson did, specifically.

The rest of it? It looks like any random Trilogy 55+ gated community found in any state in the union, furnished enthusiastically by the manageress of the Ashley Home Store showroom in suburban Tulsa.

Is anyone here immersed? Cause I'm not. 🧐

2,800 square feet for a 2 bedroom house?! What on earth do you do with all that space?

You.... LIVE! You've got a Social Security check that can cover your monthly groceries and Target runs plus a stop at Nordstrom each month, and an IRA that covers your Lexus lease and utilities and HOA, plus a 401K for when your health fails and some family invested money to cover vacations and random kitchen remodels, and an old 20th century company pension for extra padding and a few swanky dinners every month. So now it's time to LIVE!
