stormalong bay policy

I have.

Only 2 or 3 times, but I have.

The last one I recall was the Uzima pool at AKL at around 2:00 PM on a blazing hot day. Wall to wall people.

Only time I really remember was about 3 or 4 years ago at BC and some folks from Pop Century (they were speaking about how the pool at the BC was better than at their resort) were in the pool with plastic cups of beer, obviously inebriated and being very annoying and boisterous. They didn't have wrist bands and the last straw for me was when one of them accidentally knocked over my 1 year old son. I informed a CM what happened and the whole group of 8 was escorted out after they were asked for their room keys, which of course were not from BC. Buh-bye. Haven't really had any problems since then every other time we've stayed there.

Easy money

Unless 4 go to the pool, 1 leaves with 3 cards, grabs two friends, and they all go back in. Or if a guest tells the front desk they "lost" their KTTW world card and gets a new one, allowing the old one to be handed to somebody else.

Obviously, it's a rule that is easy to get around in lots of ways. But to answer the OPs question, the rule is, those staying at the Yacht and Beach Club only.

This seems like the best way to get around the rules...lol

Disney's pool security sucks. So many people pool hop and they do nothing about it. Such a simple solution - Upon check-in, everyone in the party is given a color coded rubber bracelet with the dates of their stay on it and the name of their resort. To get into the pool, you need to be wearing it.

Is their an expense to this for Disney? Sure. But it's minimal and would solve the problem.

The main problem is guests not wanting to wear a stupid bracelet around their wrists for days. And if the bracelet is removable easily, then it doesn't help security at all.

I'm with you on this. I do enjoy an occasional evening swim while at WDW, but have no intent to go pool hopping. It is just a perk to help draw people into DVC. I honestly do not think many people really end up using this perk and pool hop. The only pool that would really be worthy in my book is Stormalong Bay since it really is a mini water park and even then I would still find it tough to travel to use that pool unless I am staying at the resort.

I wouldn't even rave about Storm-a-long Bay... its nice but nothing to really rave about. The slide is pretty awesome, but besides the slide that's about it. The sand bottom is also cool, but its a little sporadic where spots have none, some have loads of sand.

the concept of pool hopping makes no sense to me... you're at WDW, enjoy it. It's a hole with water in it, many of us even have them at home! I don't have Main Street USA, Pirates, SM, Splash... near me, so that is my main goal when I am at the world.

While I, myself don't see the point in pool hopping (to me it would take too much time out of my day just to see another pool) I will defend swimming in general at Disney World.

I don't have Main Street USA, or Pirates, etc. and guess what... I don't have a pool near me either! Not everyone comes from an area where there are pools or even outdoor pools. Part of our vacation to WDW is swimming! We just don't get to do it at home. Yes, we live in the sticks!!! And the fact that it is warm enough outside to swim in a pool amazes us everytime. We only get a handful of days where it's warm enough to swim outside.

I've stayed at all levels of WDW resorts. Honestly, the pools at the Values are just as much fun (if not as scenic as the Mods or Deluxes). The slides at the Mods or Deluxes are not that great. I think Disney could solve many of the pool hopping issues by just putting slides in at the Value Resorts.

That being said, I find pool hopping tacky and tasteless. We're staying at the Polynesian in July, and have always wanted to try the GF pools. So, we're going over there to stay part of the trip. It's simple common courtesy that you should only swim at the resort you are staying at to prevent overcrowding.

Resort Beach Areas

I am a local so my questions is there a rule that states we can not use the "beach" area at the resorts only. We would never use their pools as we are not guest but we like to eat lunch at the resorts, near the pool area. I've always wanted to sit on the beach chairs, eat, and do our walks. We do respect that this amenities are for guest only.

The problem is that for every one of us who do not care about pool hopping and think it's a non-issue, there are tons of people who would do it in a second. I would love to see a survey on here to see who has pool hopped adn who hasn't.

I know one thing....I'll be HOPPING in that BLT pool come June!

Right, but as was said, there are ways (pretty simple ways) to defeat that.

Part of the difficulty is that Stormalong Bay is a open area. Even if I am not a hotel guest, I can still walk through the area to get to Beaches and Cream, or to the Clambake. Maybe for some reason I want to eat at the outside pool bar (I forget the name of it). That is all OK to do even if you are not a guest.

If the pool area was in a fenced in area, with one gate, where a CM took your room card as you entered or somehow verified that you were not lending a card to another person, then it would work. But thats a little to scrity laden for my tastes.

Stormalong bay is completely fenced in. There are several openings where they will usually stage a Cast Menber with a handheld room key scanner and wristbands.

That is still to easy for people to get around.

Check in, get your band, put it in your room.

Go to the front desk "Oh man, I am so stupid, I lost my band"

Get new band

Give one to your friend who is not staying there, keep one for yourself.

Security circumvented.

Unless they are checking photo ID's each time you enter to pool area (Which of course is not going to happen) you will always be able to get an unauthorized person in by stating you lost your band / braclet / tag / pass / whatever.

Either photo ID's, or they charge for lost tags. While that is how it works at the Jersey Shore, I don't think it is going to fly at WDW.

-dave

Or if you want to save yourself some trouble you could just buy them on eBay before your trip. Maybe even get a package deal of refillable mugs and pool wristbands and save on shipping.
