Stitch replacement for Alien Encounter not so bad

Well, if S.I.R. and Skippy are both returning, that's news to me!

Espically since S.I.R. was already stripped for parts, I fail to see them building another S.I.R....

Also, good news, Stitch's Great Escape is wayyyyy ahead of schedule.

If this keeps up, and they don't run into any further bugs, soft openings could be as early as late April. Personally, I think mid May, but my friend keeps saying April April April. So, we'll see. :)

Oh goodness. I'm going in June and I thought there would be no chance of it being open by then. We'll have to wait and see what happens. I don't know if I'm ready for it or not

I got my info from Disney Vacation club, which is a very reliable source, almost equal to an official press release.

Do you think Spring Break may have an oppurtunity for soft openings?

[/B]Sorry guys but I'm 100% against Stitch.

Alien Encounter was a VERY cool thing, very unique for the Magic Kingdom. Not every single ride has to be all cuddly and cute. And plus Stitch is from a movie, I thought that was the purpose of MGM to make Movie Rides, not Magic Kingdom!

If they desperately wanted Stitch it could've gone in the former Skyway station in Tomorrowland. It would fit.

Ummm....so was Peter Pan, Snow White, 20k Leagues, Mr Toad, Winnie The Pooh, Swiss Family Treehouse & even Splash Mountain! (Song of the South).

IMO, Alien Encounter was over & done with: too scary for MK, and I'm glad they're breathing new life into Tomorrowland with SGE.

One reason why I agree with this new attraction is because I have a friend who loves the movie, and I tried to find him a souveneir last year of Stitch...nothing in any park, went over to the Polynesian, all they had was Stitch chocolate milk mix! Now the Stitch toys will be RAMPANT!

Well let me rephrase. Stitch is not a popular lasting character. He'll be FORGOTTEN in a few years. Sure Peter Pan, Pooh etc those are memorable movies. Stitch? I think not.

I kinda disagree with that. Stitch is extraordinarily popular. I think there's a great chance he'll be remembered for a long time. He reminds me of Tinkerbell in many ways: he's cute and adorable, but also has an evil side (so Tink isn't really evil, just sassy and jealous). But my point being, he's loved by most people.

No question AE was too scary. My 18 and 16 year olds didn't like AE. And they love Tower of Terror and Rocken Roller Coaster.

I realize the fact that it was very scary made it very different and cool for many people. I sort of liked it myself. But as has been pointed out in numerous threads over the past months, most parents didn't read/believe the warnings and then complained about their kids being scared to death.

You resurrected a topic from 6 months ago for this? Ok, you don't like Stitch. We get the point  Still, Stitch has more merchandise out than any other new character since Toy Story (Need proof just look around my house lol) and unlike the toys that came out for movies like Treasure Planet or Home On The Range, Stitch stuff actually sells. Lilo & Stitch came out over two years ago and Disney is coming out with even more Stitch products than they were when the movie was still in theaters. Now they are even giving him his own attraction. I have not seen any attractions for Atlantis or The Emperor's New Groove. This is yet another testament to just how popular Stitch is, and you think he will be forgotten in a few years?! Stitch is one of, if not the most popular new character in years and he will be around for a long time. You can choose to be bitter about it, or, like me, sit back and enjoy :)

Stitch is just not that popular, 626. You are overstating it. He is not phenominally popular. He's a blubbering alien that talks weird.

Aboout the topic I did a search. didnt know how old it was

I worked at mgm in merchandise for seven months. Belive me when i tell you that stitch is a very hot item. All you are stating is your fealings on stitich and nothing more. If you look at the facts then you would see that stitch is a very popular chrecter. Heck he does castle sets at the mk and almost always has as long a line as minnie and mickey. I don't wanna cause trouble but it just seems that everyone is whining about this when they should just be excited that disney is pumping money into the parks. At least they didn't just close it and leave it empty.

I can honestly say Stitch is my favorite character after the ones form Lion King, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas and Mulan... I never took to the characters from Emperor, Atlantis or Treasure Planet... I ama 30 year old male and I think Stitch is adorable.. Actually, I hope to see Stitch in person this year.

No way!!! I dont understand how 2 people who are practically adults (18&16) would say that this ride is way too scary for them. I have a 6 year old brother who loves this ride and a 5 year old cousin who has to see it 3 or 4 times every time we go to Miagic Kingdon....I just cant agree with you. sry

My wife is a CM and when I told her about what you said she laughed. Stitch is now considered what is called a "core character" along the lines of Mickey, Pooh or Cinderella. In other words, VERY POPULAR. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean that he is unpopular. It just means you don't like him. That's Ok, we all can't like everyone. I know that there are characters I don't like, even popular ones. Personally I am not a big fan of Winnie The Pooh and for years I was sick of walking into Disney Stores or the Parks and seeing TONS of Pooh on everything while they neglected other characters. But even though I am not a Pooh fan, I am able to admit that Pooh is a popular character. Maybe when you get a little older you will realize that just because you do not like something, that doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way. You are entitled to your opinion and that is fine, but for you to make a blanket statement that "Stitch is just not that popular" and will "be forgotten in a few years" is just ignorant.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but I kinda see what the AE fans are going through. When I first returned to disney in DEc of 2000 after several years away, I made a b-line for mr toad. needless to say I was disapointed when I couldn't find it and devistated after I asked a cast member and they said it had been removed. I still sucked it up though and rode pooh to at least see if it could hold a flame to toad, imo it couldn't but I chalked it up to progress.

pesonally, however, I really like stitch and hope he becomes a long term charecter...and is not forgotten about by the majority of the public like Roger Rabbit was (whom I still really like.)

Highly doubtful, Stitch is this younger generations Pan or Pooh. Within the parks both he and Lilo are enormously popular. Some of the longest lines for photo-ops/signings were for Lilo & Stitch when we were there 3 weeks ago.

Of course I know they are going to mess up the ride :)animwink: ) but I hope you guys enjoy your new attraction. I'm still debating if I am going to see SGE or not. If I go and I don't like it I will DEFINATELY boo loudly at the end.

Why would you NOT attempt to enjoy an attraction, just to hold on to an ideology? Frankly that seems rather silly to me (no offense). I hope if you don't like an atraction you don't create a scene for other guests who don't want to hear your specific opinions about something.

No matter what ride Disney removed, I'll always try out a new attraction. Simplying refusing to go on something, the only person you are spiting is yourself. :D

I have to agree with KevinPage. Let me use myself as an example. Growing up, I had my own pre-concieved notions of certain attractions that are still there.

Example 1: "Carousel of Progress." Now, as a kid, depending on your interests and also hearing your mom saying that it was "Okay, but kinda boring. You probably wouldn't like it." Well, you'd get the notion stuck in your head that it's not something you want to go on, right? That's what happened to me. But back in June, I was at MK on my own. No one else was with me. So what did I do? I decided I would try things I hadn't and actually give them a chance. The first thing I tried was CoP. I went in with an open mind and came out singing "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow." I was totally surprised by how it defied my expectations and now I enjoy going on it. I went a second time on that trip and then brought my family on it in August.

Example 2: "The Land." Well, I went to the land about 15 years ago. Didn't spend much time there. Didn't remember much about it, so I figured it probably wasn't that great. I didn't ride "Living With the Land" because I thought it would be dull and again, my parents had little interest in it. Well, I didn't go back as a result. Again in June, doing things I hadn't done, I went to "The Land" after being convinced by a separate thread here to give it another shot. I rode "Living With the Land" and took some pretty good pictures. I had a Strawberry Shortcake at the Sunshine Season Food Fair and I also went and saw the "Circle of Life" movie. As far as the movie went, I could take it or leave it, but I went on "Living With the Land" again in August when I brought my family back and we had breakfast at Sunshine Season Food Fair. Now I'm sorry I didn't go back sooner because with the addition of "Soarin'" it's going to be radically altered.

To a lesser extent, we have Example 3: Test Track and Mission:Space. My favorite attractions other than JII(the original) at Epcot had been Horizons and World of Motion. Both are now gone, but they were replaced by other attractions. Both other attractions looked to have the potential to be good so I went and had a blast on both. I know not everyone likes them, but I do so even though I don't like that my old favorites are gone, at least IMO they didn't replace them with utter crap.

And finally, I don't know what's going into the 20k lagoon. All I know is that another old favorite of mine is no longer there. What does this mean for me? It means that there will someday be another attraction there(we hope) and that whatever it is will be something worth at least trying. I will no longer look at something that is built at one of the parks and just dismiss it. I will give it a go and decide based on that. If I like it, then it could turn into a pleasant surprise. If I don't like it, I won't ruin it for others by vocally expressing my dislike at the end of the attraction, I'll just come here and say that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, at least to me. People are there on vacation for the most part and want to be able to enjoy their time, not get someone else's displeasure with a replacement forced on them.

You gotta remember this is a REALLY old thread. It was started around the time AE closed and I was much more critical then than I am now. I still don't want to see the show, but I'm not as mad as I was. This was a LONG time ago.

now normaly I don't post in 5 year old topics but I want to say this...

For people who don't belive that its possible for a 4 year old to enjoy a ride and a 24 year old not to need to understand one little thing. How people take it rides will change person to person. That is something you will learn within 5 minutes of being a CM...people come up to you and ask YOU how THEY would like the ride...and you have to tell them you don't know. I have seen 93 year olds hope off space and enjoy it and have seen 12 year old get off crying there eyeballs out. Its all up to the person.
