That's because Dasani is just "filtered" tap water...we ship a case of Poland Spring water (only available in the NE) down the week before we arrive...(that's the ONLY water my family will drink) Problem solved!!
We got a case of Poland Spring at the Publix closest to WDW. Took an uber there to get some stuff for the room.

Eh, maybe I'm easy. We have good water here (municipal wells for the most part). It's very hard, but tastes fine (it just leaves deposits on your shower)

However, FL water does not bother me either, neither does ANY bottled water. It's all good. I think the only time I had water that I thought was really nasty was when we owned a cabin in Canada. We opened it one year to some really nasty water - the dead racoon floating in the well added some really interesting flavor.

And I am pretty sure WDW water passes municipal water quality tests.

Omg. Yuck.

I grew up in upper, upper New York State where my grandparents had well water that was very sulfury. I didn't like the taste, but, it didn't kill anyone. To me the only reason why I don't drink the water from the drinking fountains in WDW is because it is always warm. Besides... if I can afford to go to Disney on vacation, I can afford a few bottle of cold water that they sell there. If one has to ask how much something costs then one cannot afford whatever it was. Someone like J. Paul Getty or another rich person supposedly said that.

If it helps you feel any better, Disneyland tap water is also super gross. Los Angeles is a barren wasteland of a place with no water of its own - any water Orange County gets is brought in from elsewhere, and it all ends up gross at the end of the day. Granted, I'm spoiled in the Bay Area by delicious Hetch Hetchy water, so I'm a little biased.

Honestly, water's the one thing I'm dreading in my upcoming week-long WDW trip. I take a medication that leaves me at greater risk of dehydration so I need to be drinking a ton of water throughout the day, especially when I'm particularly active. I've already got packets of Gatorade here so that I've got a quick way to boost my hydration and make Florida water taste like something, but I'm honestly considering just going the "grab a case of water at Publix" route. The rooms have open fridges, might as well use it.

When we first moved here, I could not stand the water smell. I would literally dread getting in the shower. Until I opened this thread, I had forgotten about the awful stench...it really is awful. Me getting used to this stink and my wife getting used to me is proof we can all get used to anything. I would, however, recommend spending the few dollars on a case of water for the hotel room. As much as I'm used to the water for a shower, it's still hard to drink it. Even Dasani is better.

All of this being said, it has to be the most petty reason I've seen yet to create an account and post.

You will probably be fine, as Disney of course does everything they can. My husband is basically a camel and he gets dehydrated very easily, so he was dreading the water thing too. Which is why we Ubered to Publix to get a case of Poland Springs. He drank the majority of it in a couple days and we ended up spending the arm and leg for a case of water from the hotel gift shop. But he also took advantage of the free iced water in the parks, and he said it tasted just fine. We're in Boston so we are spoiled with incredibly clean, tasty water. And he's a baby. So if he didn't mind the taste, you probably won't. Lol.

The fountains are unchilled water.. The water lines aren't naturally cooled at MK because they are hanging in the Utilidors. The water coming from the fountains is going to be gross because it's not chilled. Hot water amplifies the taste of small impurities in the water, it's the same effect as you leaving water out overnight on your nightstand. On top of that how many people do you see using the fountains? If you haven't seen someone use it, let it run for a few seconds before drinking it... If you dont like the water fountains, others have stated that ICE water is free at every restaurant fountain. Its one of those requirements of the Florida Health Department... Restaurants must provide clean water. The ice is a courtesy... but you'll be hard pressed to find one that wont provide it.

Anytime you open a tap in any building at disney you should let it run for a few minutes. You never know when the last time a tap was opened, In a hotel room it could have been a day or a week or even a month. Let it run till the smell dissipates. Water companies actually have to flush their lines but they cant flush the lines inside buildings... try it out next time.. run your faucet in the room for 10 minutes to clear the stagnant water.. You'll thank me next time...

My first year of college I went to a small campus on an island right next to a sulphur plant. Yeah, talk about nasty.
I think I'm in the minority, but I've never noticed the smell of the water in Disney hotels :bored: Maybe when I got in the shower after a day at the parks I thought I was the one who smelt?
And I also have no problem drinking Dasani...

I went to the MK today and the tap water was undrinkable--like every gulp was a shudder of disgust--from a distinct sulfur smell. After doing some research, it's clear that no potable drinking water in the USA should taste like sulfur coming out of the faucets. Its against the rules. But Disney stands to lose millions of dollars to their own public drinking fountains.

Disney found a solution to this problem by buying the the local utility company, Reedy Creek Energy Services.

It seems Disney Corp has all the power to improve the water, and has a huge profit disincentive to do so.

They are letting your free water stink to make you spend more money on other stuff, specifically $4.50 for a small bottle of water.

Is it ethicalr for Disney Corp to make this happen? What have they done to remedy this problem? Is the State if Florida culpable also?
You can go to any dining service location and ask for cups of ice water for free - I assure you this water does not stink at all of sulfur.
It is 100% free- any amount you wish - we went with a group of 20+ one year and had all the free water we wanted.
Just a little FYI - and yes the fountain water is gross:(

I'm not sure which one, but it was the closest to our resort (All Star Sports.) My husband actually corrected me and told me it was Nestle water, not Poland Springs.
Thanks for the info...I bought EVERY brand of water and the ONLY brand my DW will drink is Poland Spring...I know it's available at BJ's. But I can't complain because I rent a car just so I can go off property to a 7-11 to get my Diet Pepsi big gulp...LOL (Poland Spring IS owned by Nestle waters...they own most of the brands, but it comes from different areas of the country)

Poland Springs is the only spring water worth drinking IMO. I'll drink tap water at home because it's delicious but if I want a bottle of water that's all I'll drink.

Also, what does DW stand for? I've seen a lot of people use that and other abbreviations and I always feel silly for not knowing lol.

I'm told it's DW (Disney wife, DD Disney daughter, etc.) Oh, and since you're from Boston, is Durgin Park still in Quincy Market?? Man, they had great food !!!
