But by 10:30 or so, is it more crowded than a day without EMH, or the same?
Yes..But by 10.30am I'am off to another park less crowded..2 hours 30 mins is enough to wet my appetite..On our last day of our 14 day vacation we have a tradition..We hit our favourites in 4 parks and also have time for TL for a last dip,and still manage to squeeze in some last minute shopping at Downtown..;)

Hmm, maybe that's what I was thinking of - makes sense. Of course, in late afternoon a lot of people would be leaving those parks, right (the ones who started out in MK and Epcot)? Factoring it all in, in late October, do you think MK would be really crowded in the afternoon/evening/night on a weekday during evening EMH? The day I'm looking at right now, TouringPlans puts the crowd level at 2.9 The park closes at 9, EMH till 11pm.
If the crowd level is anywhere below 6, the parks are not crowded at all. You will be able to do whatever you want if that level is correct. The last hour of extra hours are usually sparse except during busy seasons.

Here are our basic park plans with the crowd ratings (I'm not including our arrival and departure days). These are for the parks we'll start out at (rope drop I hope!). We'll probably take a resort break and head to a different park late afternoon most days. Also, we'll mix it up depending on what everyone wants to do or has liked most:

Day 1: MK - 1.1
Day 2: Epcot - 1.8
Day 3: AK - 2.6
Day 4: MK - 2.3
Day 5: (resort day, but MK is 1.1)
Day 6: DHS - 3.9 (a Friday, probably doing MNSSHP)
Day 7: AK - 5.6 (a Saturday)

So do you think for those first 4 days the major attractions will be walk-ons, or very short standby lines? That'd be great. It's smack-dab during school time, so that's my plan, though hope for the best, plan for the worst, eh?

I love these crowd ratings..I can see me talking to someone who is going for their first trip and giving them some advice.." Don't go in July 4th..it's 9.3... Try July 12th it's only 3.6...Whit!!:confused:

Extra magic hours. I loved being immersed in my vacation it's one of my favorite things about a disney trip but when I end up going during more expensive times of year (like without room discounts or middle of summer that sort of thing) I'd look at staying off site without emh. With that said...we're also fortunate enough to go more than once a year and we drive so using the buses or magic express isn't a big selling point for us.

I would love to go at a time with these numbers. If correct, you should have very short standby's.
It's been a long time since we've been able to go with low numbers. Spring break week was 9 or 10 almost everyday. We still rode everything by doing early and late hours. Starting at about 11 a.m. the parks were too crowded to ride anything without a 100+ minute wait --without fastpass. We had done all our favorite rides by that time. We did a lot of hopping that trip.

Transportation, package delivery, free parking, proximity to parks, theming, and EMH all factor in to why I'd rather stay on property.

For me EMH isn't the biggest perk, not even close, and it is probably the one thing that would end up having the least impact on guests staying on property if they did away with it. I'm sure park hours would end up adjusting to something quite similar anyway because as long as the demand is there the parks will be open.

EMH being dropped would probably be what pushes us to finally stay offsite. However I have a feeling EMH will be replaced with onsite perks to the FP+ which would then keep us onsite :banghead:

Does everyone find the crowd calendar accurate? I have used it in the past but I'm not sure I could tell the difference on the "Recommended Day"

I don't think the morning EMH's are going anywhere. That being said, even if they did, I would still stay on property. I love not having to drive for the week, and our kids love the buses and monorail. I love the TOTAL IMMERSION of WDW, and that is what keeps us coming back every year. Just waiting to purchase DVC!

Stayed offsite once. Just wasn't the same even though we were very close. Don't know if it was just waking up and being immersed in the magic or something else, it just didn't feel quite right.

The perks of transportation, EMH, DME are great. But doing away with one of them wouldn't be enough to keep us from staying on property.

I think I'll love not driving for a week too, and I'll bet the kids WILL enjoy the buses. I don't think we'll be spending THAT much time on the monorail (staying at POFQ) but some, and I know they'll love that.

CTTOI, when I visit another city (San Francisco, Paris, London, Amsterdam were some favorites) the different public transit is always a fun part of the experience and one of the most memorable. I read a lot of complaints and worries about the bus service here (I worry a little about being late for rope drop or having a long late-night wait with a sleeping DS4 in my arms) but it's nice to see it considered a perk here!
