State of DD is causing me to start my vacation at US

For the first time in 6 plus years of heading to disney on my own, meaning not with my parents, me and my fiance are starting our vacation staying at Universal for a night so that we can hit city walk and check out the new additions to IOA and US. We have been there before, but never have effectivly taken two days and a night from disney to do so. Its just that PI and now the Westside are falling into such disrepair that there are far fewer places to just enjoy a night out. I can't be the only one doing this, city walk is just so much more appealing to someone in their 20/30's. Disney really needs to dump a little money into that area, it is starting to become an eyesore. We are DVC members and even I would much rather they spend the money there then on these countless DVC propertys. What is the point of a million DVCs if they don't offer us some new attractions or entertainment options to draw us back year after year.

PS. please do not bring back SSSC. Let it go away, shade will not save it.

I can't say I blame you but I have never been a fan of hitting the clubs after the parks. I am so shot and just spend the whole day pretty much from morning till night at the parks. I would have in the past gone out one night, but became less and less. I am 34 now and still have no plans to really go out at night unless of course the parks are closed by 8pm.

I am 10000% with you. I would rather spend every second possible at the parks and at the resorts rather then going out to a club. We hit DD about once every 3 or 4 years or so. And we really only do that to visit the stores to see if there is anything there we couldn't find in the parks.

I know DD was made to appeal to the slightly older but still younger crowd(I know I could just say older teens and 20 somethings)but gosh darn it's Disney World...not the strip...you don't need it if you got the parks.

What about those of us who are night owls and the parks all closed by 9:30? To me, 9:30, heck even 11 is still early to be done for the day.

Is there anything else you have decided we don't need?

Point...but it's just opinion anyway...to each his own...and my own is that Disney is a family place where you go to to enjoy the parks and your family time.
And trust me I'm not arguing you on this...I love opinions and people who are more than happy to share theirs.

I agree that night options should be available. I also think that when the parks are closing early there should be something to do other than just shop and eat (and that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg). I think that CityWalk will get some of the Disney business from people who have cars and can travel over there. However, I don't think that many people will alter their plans like the OP is going to do. However, I do understand where the OP is coming from. Disney really needs to evaluate their "bold new vision" and give people something more to do at night.

I'm not arguing with you either, but I like to get my points out there each time this discussion comes up.

Families don't stay young forever which is always important to remember. My family is just the right age where an evening at the Adventurers Club or Comedy Warehouse would be very enjoyable and appropriate family time.

By just targeting the stereotypical family (mom, dad, and 2.5 kids), Disney is missing out on the others.

Yea...even if it is mostly what Disney does and is known for...and I enjoy nights out too...concerts, stand up comedians, parties, the whole "I'm young let me destroy my body now" thing...but I don't know, something about Disney just makes me feel and want to be young(er) again, not that I'm old just not a kid anymore. And because of that feeling I just don't feel the whole partying and night scene, atleast not while I'm at Disney.

Wasn't the whole concept of PI and even, to a lesser extent, the West Side the place for adults and parents to have a night out? It was one corner of the World where you could step away from the theme park atmosphere and still have a good time.

Thats exactly my point. Right now, there is nothing to do at night, there is really nowhere to go have a drink and relax. The adventurers club was an all time favorite and now with that gone, and really nothing even coming close to replacing it, the options are just so limited. I am not the type to go out and get completely trashed, but I don't think there is anything wrong with going out and having a good time in a fun festive atmosphere with a few cocktails.

I know Disney World is geared mostly towards families, but the whole resort is not like that at all. There are multiple places to get drunk, but without pleasure island you are basically drinking around all of these families instead of out at night in an adult oriented setting. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. And besides don't adult couples make up a pretty substantial segment of the touring population at disney? Why are we being forced to retire to our rooms at 930? Just bring back Pleasure Island, I am actually a little sad to be taking a day away from Disney, but I really am interested to see what Universal has to offer as far as night life, and to a lesser extent more thrilling rides.

I remember the days when PI was packed with people, and it was a really fun atmosphere, now its a ghost town. Disney let it fall into a sad state and it turned people off, instead of fixing the problem in an intelligent way, they closed it all down at once and now it is just one big eyesore, with an uncomfortable "celebration" happening in the street.

btw, this is my only real complaint about anything disney, i love the parks, love the resorts, love DVC. Just give me something to do after 9pm.

I was 21 when I went last year in September 2008, when the PI clubs closed and I had no desire to go in the clubs nor do I want to now. I like going out at home but when I go to WDW, it's a different kind of vacation that I don't want to be spending doing the same kind of thing I can do at home.

I'm not glad they closed I just don't care. I like DTD better now that they're gone because I can go without having to worry about running into drunk idiots... or seeing those poor kids who have drunk idiot parents take them around. Not that everyone there was drunk, lol, but it lessens it.

There's still Jellyrolls which is definitely worth going to. Again, I am not going to go all the way to FL just to go to the club that I can do at home, but it's nice to drop in for a couple of hours and check out the karoke and live entertainment... that's enough for me :)

Of course you don't have to worry about that in EPCOT either, right?

D'oh! I told myself I wasn't gonna do it and there I go.:zipit:

Of all the times I have been to Epcot and even during the F&WF I have only seen a crazy drunken person once... and it was actually a group that was in the same theater as us in Impressions de France.

I feel like people were able to let loose more in DTD because they weren't actually in a park.

You are right on the money, I can never understand peoples arguments for closing PI when they center on drinking, aside from MK you can get a drink EVERYWHERE in disney. And yet they closed down the one place where the children were actually separated from the adults for the most part.

Well you're one of the few then. While working in EPCOT I saw more belligerent drunks than I ever saw in my time at PI. And I spent plenty of nights at PI. The drunkness excuse of closing PI was a fabrication. Am I saying it didn't happen sometimes? No, but to say it was on the level where there were drunken slobs roaming DTD and corrupting the children is a complete fallacy.

And if people were bringing children into PI, then it's their own fault. There's a reason it was for adults.
