Ah, ridiculous MyMagic pledge drive upcharge events, how I've missed thee.

$350 for a pin, a Magic Band, a fastpass to a shop and a day out at a park with five rides... what a bargain!

Will they announce the celebrity line-up before the 60 day mark? We were thinking of getting FP+s to the celebrity show and we're going May 16th. I want to know if it's worth it. I think that's like 73 days away?

Also, what tier FP+ would the show be in? I'm assuming the first tier, this is just my first SW Weekend!
I couldn't find another thread to post this in, so if I'm wrong I'll gladly post on the right one.

Top tier. Also, right thread.

The character is Darth Maul, The Merch location is Darth's Mall - ugly but there it is

Well last year's location is now being turned into a TSMM expansion. No idea where they're putting it this year. Someone posted something about where Oakens is now, in the former AFI spot but who knows.

A few years ago I think it was in a temporary tent next to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, so they might just do that again.

OK, I wil say it... The ULTIMATE Disney Money Grab, before you pay waaaaaay too much for some silly collectibles.

But of course, I am sure many will be there.

Crazy, but then again I'm already planning on being at WDW 5/12-18 for last week of F&G festival and 1st SWW. Was planning on being in Epcot 5/13-14. So, may have to rethink my schedule. At least I get the benefit of even considering it.

To review for spending $250, I get the opportunity to spend even more money:
  • Expedited entry to Darth's Maul to purchase more stuff
  • First opportunity to purchase "select" merchandise before anyone else
  • First opportunity to purchase new SW designed gift cards
But here's the "free" stuff thrown in (with estimates maybe on the high side for pin and bucket)
  • Rebel or Empire MB -- $29.95
  • Trading Pin -- $19.95
  • Popcorn bucket -- $9.95
  • Estimated total: $59.85
Difference: $190.15 ($250 - 59.85 = $190.15)

Wow, that's like "Ten thousand, all in advance" just for the opporunity to spend more.

Okay, I've considered it. No thanks. I'll stick with enjoying F&G festival in Epcot.

Hmm, maybe this is a sign of things to come... $250 for the priveledge of being allowed to pay for a ticket to MVMCP. How about a nice little priveledge fee of $250 to be allowed to pay for the events of the F&W or F&G festivals. Oh and that Villians money grab(forgot the name) on Halloween... only a $250 fee to be allowed to buy the regularly priced tickets.

STOP THE MADNESS !!!!!

That is correct and if i am not mistaken it was FREE.... WALT DISNEY WOULD NEVER HAVE ALLOWED THIS BS to happen. I like many thought it was great when ISNER was ousted but damn i would love to have him back because these idiots are DESTROYING THE HOME THAT I LOVE..... seriously they dont care about us loyal WDW lovers who have returned multiple times a year for year after year (for me and my family it is now 108 times) they want the family that may come 1 time or maybe 1 time every decade or so... thus screw all of you let's see how much of your money we can grab NOW and if you come back great and if you don't cest le vie

Well AFI was gutted and once the frozen event was over they stripped all the theming away. It's certainly possible that they will use that building. There's a rumor floating around that they will use the prop storage building (the building just prior to the tram load) as well all though I'm not sure if it has been emptied yet.

Its my understanding (Info from December) that the Prop Shop will not be cleaned out until this Summer. Naturally, that could have changed but thats the last I had a convo on it.

First off, I do not really care for this "opportunity" to spend money to be allowed to spend money.

With that said, I don't believe this particular event supports the theory that Disney is only targeting one time visitors. If anything this particular event is gear towards the extreme Disney/Star Wars fan that would probably make multiple trips to Star Wars Weekends a year.

Additionally, while I don't agree with the tactic it does seem like this is mainly to thwart eBay-ers. "True" collectors (and I use that term rather loosely) will still purchase these products regardless of the price, while the entry fee creates a barrier for those would just turn and burn on eBay. Basically, as others have said, Disney is taking the premium that would be made on eBay and transferring it to their own pocket.

In this case it's truly a pick your poison scenario.

Pontificating just a bit. This would be one area where it seems the MB would come in handy to limit purchases of products. If everything is linked to your MM+ account, including purchases, just limit the number of purchases of a particular product a person can make. Obviously the system must not be to that point yet.

I go to multiple weekends for Star Wars Weekends every year and I think this event is ludicrous(speed). I will just wait in line like the other joes discuss our rabid passion for Star Wars, where we got the snazy t-shirts we are wearing and drop a crap ton of money. Most of my money for Star Wars Weekends is spent on pictures for autographs and then after PICTURE FRAMES. I will agree that this seems more like an effort to recoup "losses" from the eBayers who are going to buy multiples of said items and then transfer them to ebay where they will wait for years before anyone buys one. I would love it if they did something like you said with the MM+ to limit how much they can purchase. And you know who these folks are, they are the ones with 4 cases of the VInylmations while my friends and I purchase 3 and each of us gets the chaser. True story it happened, although not all at the same time. I am looking forward to this years mostly because its more of a big vacation for the best buds and I.

Also the information that is coming out, is it coming out early or around the same time. If so we can expect a guest list announcement coming in the next couple of weeks, with the show announcement coming sometime at the beginning of April. Hope that helps @BriarRose1701 .

I agree. The looseness of the term "collector" was intentional as I think a majority of even the most rabid fans will that a second glance at this, but there seems to be a significant minority of guest with a voracious appetite for Disney kitsch that is being served through the secondary market. A market that Disney is trying to get in on.
