Star Wars weekends going away?

Oh, I really hope this is true. I could see it going away sometime in the future once the new land opens, but I thought it funny that they would remove this big money maker before that. We are going the first week of June and I really wanted the kids and my husband to get to experience this.

I'm not so sure it will be going away in the next 5 years. It's rather insane (in a good way) when it is going on. SWW brings a lot of unique experiences to the park, park wide. I don't think a land should qualify a discontinuation.

Universal has been doing their Harry Potter events for a few years now and they have a land.

Mad Tea Party was the one that was there when I visted and I believe is till there. It was a lot of fun.

Something was going on in June. I just thought it was for Grad Nights. It was a very cool set up. Kind of like a dance club and they had bizaar characters including a character on stilts riding a flamingo puppet.

Yeah, I agree, the park is going to need things like this over the next couple years to keep attendance up. DCA introduced the very popular Glow Fest/elecTRONica/Mad Tea Party during it's major construction to help keep attendance up.
Glow Fest was thrown together to keep people away from World of Color once it was realized that it was not really an in-the-round show and that the viewing area had a much lower capacity than desired. It was almost totally outsourced, so elecTRONica was the in-house crew reclaiming their turf. Something like a World of Color boondoggle that needs a counter point doesn't seem to be in the near future for the park, and that actually is a good thing.

If Season of the Force is similar to say, Flower and Garden in terms of length that seems like a pretty good trade off for Star Wars Weekends. I'll take an ongoing event over one that is only 5 or 6 weekends out of the year.

I'm sure all the SW themed events will be completely reworked once SWL is open. It would only make sense to review what they have, make some thing permanent, change up some things to leverage the new land & facilities, etc. I'm curious to see what the future holds. Either way, something will be there as a special draw for the park. Wouldn't surprise me if they went away in favor of a season of a hard ticketed event maximizing the new SWL once the park is in proper shape.

Perhaps I was misinterpreting what was being said at D23, but I was under the impression that Season of the Force would be starting this year actually, right around when the new film debuts and Launch Bay opens. I could then see it continuing through the dead months that Frozen Fun took over this year. From what was said, Season is very much the SW version of Frozen Fun: Fireworks, new Jedi Training, Launch Bay, Movie Preview. Star Wars Weekends will still be a big thing I would think, it has the characters all over the park, LE Merch, the Parade, and all the Celebs, and now they'll probably have all the new stars come out. I could see them reworking things, beefing it up as time goes on though, and maybe a full overhaul once the land opens.

I'll wait to see the offerings before I automatically assume Quantity > Quality

Yet they cut their food and wine fest at the same time and it hasn't returned

We don't know what Episode 7 will bring, but I would certainly argue that Disney is holding Star Wars to a higher standard than Lucas ever did.

I would agree. Lucas did not respect what he did and only looked ahead. He treated his original trilogy like artwork posted on the refrigerator. He grew up and tweaked them until they were nearly unrecognizable. When he made the prequels he took control of things that he used hire the best and the brightest for in the past. The writing and direction suffered. Lucas is a hell of a mind and producer, but in terms of execution, he always did better working with others. It's a good thing he's not a musician/conductor or he would have screwed up the soundtrack too.

Disney realizes that it has gold here. I just don't want to see them over-saturate it.
